From the Storyteller of Verdallon
Do you hear the voices from Larreta whispering when the full moon’s light dances on sea waves? Or calling from beneath the surface of a mountain lake at sundown?
Do you answer?
If not, I understand, for who could believe that Larreta, land of our shattered desire, could be so near?
If the voices are too insistent to ignore and meaning has revealed itself as the glue binding all things, then listen carefully. Even rational minds can turn and face themselves.
Valerie knows. She will tell you that desire is the crucial element in evolution. Listen to your desire. Follow it. Fight with it. Challenge it. Make love with it, if you can. Preferably outdoors, under moonlight.

Since he lost Bobby to the first time rift to strike Larreta, Leo had studiously avoided the responsibility of training a newcomer. He had loved Bobby, convinced she was his true partner, and not until he said to Valerie on an impulse, I’ve been assigned to be your teacher
did he reconsider his decision. It wasn’t even true, although Martin looked relieved when Leo told him he had
