Trust me, Hun, you are probably too sensitive for what I write. I love porn with plot and sex scenes that read for tens of pages. A straight-laced college student in Ogden, UT. by day. A ravenous reader by night. I've always loved sexy romantic tales, which were closer to '70s/'80s porn books than 'romance'. I find modern 'rules and morals' far too restrictive for my personal preference and enjoy pushing the envelope in my personal life and writing. I guess I have always had a taste for the naughty. About the Author

    Chapter 1

The large black skinned white haired elf waited patiently, he had been for nearly half an hour. Jhan’dor understood the protocols, as a member of one of the ‘Great Houses’ he would wait while the entire family had assembled to greet him in the main room. There would be a meal, discussions of local news then finally after an hour or so they would listen to his request.

He hated the excessively complex formality of his mother’s people. His father was from a bygone warrior society, now an artistic culture but every teen still spent five years in martial training before moving to the arts as a career. The warriors learned direct confrontation, in all aspects of life.

Be honest, blunt and direct. That he could deal with but these Veilen they masked everything behind smiles, perfume, and falsehoods.

How can you tell if a Veilen is lying?

    You can see her breathing.

There was a lot of truth in his father gibe. His father loved his mother very much, but they worked constantly to overcome polarized cultural differences.

She was passionate, violent, and quick to anger.

He was calm, logical and methodically cool.

Jhan’dor and his younger brother Duilliath were a blending of both, although Jhan mimicked his father’s blood much closer than his brother.

He pulled the small note from his shirt pocket as he heard people chatting excitedly in the next room.

    Alara.

The best damned geo I ever saw. The old human had told him. Geomancers were not rare, they had a talent for finding precious metals and gems inside the earth. Jhan’dor had spent his meager wealth on the human’s mining supplies and more importantly for information about the geomancer. She would be important for the first in a series of steps to build his financial empire. The note gave a name and a city, Viesh’ti.

He was now paying his respects to the only noble house in the minor settlement. ‘Noble’ would be debatable, most of the minor houses were little more than robber barons and hedge knights.

    Broke.

    Bullies.

The condition and size of the noble towers were reflective of a family’s power, these elves had little. He had talked with a few merchants on his way to the tower, over taxed and downtrodden. The city would never grow under their leadership. In truth they were not leading, they were exploiting.

Master Jhan’dor of the mighty House Æfréhatan! That was the cue.

Happy thoughts, he sighed to himself.

He stepped through the heavy black curtains into a large room lined with chairs and fifty of so black skinned white haired elves milling about pretending to have conversations.

He could hear the excited whispers as he walked the long narrow carpet to an elder female sitting on a large chair decorated with ornate spiders. She was attractive, with a human appearance of nearly thirty. Small, as were all Veilen, and wearing a dress designed to intrigue as well as distract.

My most honorable Matron Lisshai of the Noble House Stone Spider greets you. A male attendant standing to the left announced then walked to a chair and sat.

Greetings Matron Lisshai of the Noble House Stone Spider. Jhan’dor bowed. A minor breach of protocol since he was from the greater House, but the maneuver was to impress.

You honor us, Lord Jhan’dor. the woman rose to her feet and walked down the three stairs. She stood nearly five foot three, quite tall for Veilen. Jhan’dor was nearly six and a half feet, his father was closer to average for Shadewe at a little over seven.

He could see the long hairpin, the boot knives, the belt knife, all of which would be poisoned. Single use inferno-spell bracelet, a necklace that would prevent poisoning, and as a female there would be a small blade on her upper inner thigh as well. Even the magically enhanced perfume which would undermine a male’s decision making was in place.

    She played the role well.

There was no second chair near hers. She was single, which meant she would probably visit him tonight and try to win him over to advance her goals of possibly aligning her house with his.

How was your trip? she purred walking around him.

Most enjoyable. Unfortunately, I have little news of my homelands. I have been away far too long.

You must be starving, she signaled her attendant who backed from the room and disappeared behind a side curtain. We shall feast your arrival, then we insist you reside with us during your stay in our fair city.

I will be most grateful. he was bored already but gave no indication of the tediousness he felt, I had not expected to find a Noble House in a village this small.

We are relatively new but growing quickly. she replied. House Æfréhatan is part of the council is it not?

Yes, we are a middling House, diversity is our strength. Mining, imports, mostly sub-contracting to allied merchant and labor houses. He watched the reactions in the room, some faces lit up. Smiles appeared; they had lost their negotiating power by allowing the meeting to be house wide instead of in private.

He could see they were hungry for contracts.

Perhaps after dinner, we could discuss a few business matters. she cooed.

Perhaps, he could see her confusion when he did not respond the way she had hoped. Your perfume, it’s a light patchouli oil?

He leaned down and whispered softly, "It’s an excellent choice for carrying your ladies tongue."

He could see the shock then anger written across her face, she quickly recomposed herself before her family could see her reaction.

You have a delicate sense of smell, she smiled. Will this be an obstacle to our talks?

No, I would have been disappointed if you hadn’t tried, but I am not looking for a wife and I fear there are no Veilen girls who could survive the ordeal.

Survive? I would not have suspected you had a killer streak. she mocked an expression of shock.

Not intentionally, Shadewe are simply not sexually compatible with Veilen, my first attempt was nearly fatal to the poor girl. With that said, I will admit that my mother has been pressuring me to return homeland to find a wife. He smiled.

A mother only wants what’s best. Well, perhaps one of our girls will yet catch your eye…or boy?

Ladies only please, and only if they are willing. He was expecting that. Marriages were a fast track to alliances, contracts, and advancements.

Negotiations will continue later then, shall we eat? she smiled, he knew there would be a gaggle of girls in his bed tonight, maybe one could…nah, best to stick with Shadewe girls.

The group filed into a large dining room, a long stone table with fifty place settings waited.

As was custom the Matron sat at one end of the table with Jhan’dor, the guest sitting at the opposite end. Before anyone could select seats, six of the younger females quickly took the seats nearest him. Those would be the tonight’s visitors, he decided.

He smiled and greeted each one pleasantly as a stream of elaborate foods carried by servants was placed on the table. Mostly meat, he observed.

He was a strict vegetarian, something his father had taught him and his tastes had developed towards.

Ter, Shiv’el, Sandin, Bri, Kitha and Fenni. Got it, he repeated the girls names from right to left as the girls stared wide-eyed at him.

You must need to do that a lot. Kitha giggled, she was the youngest.

The talents of court life. You will be trained in those skills soon, no? he liked her face but she would probably still be too young. House law dictated nobles be fifty and she was clearly under that age, had she not been of noble birth she would only have to wait until twenty-five.

Is everyone in your family so tall? Kitha asked, her bright red eyes nearly sparkled as she stared at him.

No, my father is Shadewe they are taller than myself, even the girls are tall. My brother and sister will probably stay around my height. The rest of our House is regular Veilen.

Where are the Shadewe cities? We’ve never of them. Ter chimed in.

Down. When you find the cephaloids, you are one-quarter of the way there, he replied. The mushrooms were excellent, the breaded lichens not so much but still edible.

You tease, Fenni tilted her head, The brain eaters live in the center of the world.

No, they cannot stand the light. My home is daylight with no darkness…ever. He put on his best serious face, he knew no one would believe that.

Wait, are you saying the world is hollow? some male butted in.

Jhan’dor picked up a circular slice of black bread, then ripped out the center and held it up.

This is the surface, day and night. The humans and light elves are from there. You’ve seen it? he asked sliding his finger over the outer crust.

No, but some of us have. the male replied.

Good. he painted a narrow layer of yellowish sauce halfway between the crust and the hole on the bread. This outer section of bread is where the Veilen and everything you know lives. This yellow section is the hot zone, mostly liquid rock.

I’ve been there, that is the center of the world. the male replied.

That is a more accurate statement than you realize. This is where it will get difficult, on the other side of the hot zone the world reverses. We have subterranean creatures living in this area just like you do…but different races. Now the hole is where I’m from, we walk on this inner wall here with our sun floating in the middle of the world.

You lie! the male was becoming agitated. Jhan’dor had seen it many times. The concept was beyond most Veilens ability to understand. Anything they didn’t understand, they would attempt to destroy.

Drellin! He is our guest and a Royal. the Matron chastised the male.

Please forgive me. the smaller male spoke through clenched teeth.

Of course. I apologize, it is just a tale to amuse not offend. Clearly I must be from the surface world. Jhan’dor smiled, folded the bread in half and took a bite.

Please pardon Drellin, he is young and brash. she warned the youth with a lingering stare.

Understandable, perhaps we can discuss the reason for my journey to your fair city. Jhan’dor was anxious to be on his way. The boy’s behavior had broken a few protocols and there was no reason to believe his manners would improve.

Please, if there is any way we may assist a Royal House just ask. the Matron smiled warmly.

I am seeking a Geomancer, her name is Alara. he replied.

I have heard enough! You cannot have her! the young man sprang to his feet and charged the large dark skinned elf.

Jhan’dor jumped back from his chair. The violent outburst was not the reaction he had expected.

Drellin slashed at Jhan’dor with a dinner knife, slicing the taller elf’s white spider silk shirt.

Jhan’dor brought a fist down and caught the youth squarely on top of his head.

The smaller male crumpled to the floor, unconscious.

The only sound in the room was the knife rattling on the stone floor.

Jhan’dor brought his gaze to the attractive Matron, she didn’t hide her expression of horror.

Master Jhan’dor please…forgive…I… she struggled to try to salvage the situation.

The room was awkwardly silent for several moments, all eyes were on the tall elf. Most awaited their fate.

The mushrooms are delicious. May we continue with our dinner? he asked politely.

Of course, the Matron signaled the attendants who quickly pulled the unconscious Drellin from the room, then motioned for their guest to take his seat.

You are a mining House are you not? Jhan’dor returned to eating the delicious mushrooms.

Yes. she was less charming as her thoughts focused on the future of a male family member. Will you have him executed?

"No. I am a guest, and I do not wish ill upon anyone here. You have been most hospitable.
