About this ebook

Scribblings of a Sleep-Deprived College Student is a sci-fi/fantasy double-pack that features "Die Glocke" and "Earthly Trappings," short stories written at the whims of inspiration. "Die Glocke" centers around an average-joe scientist from Perseicron whose day gets all kinds of flipped upside-down when a strange visitor suddenly arrives on his planet. "Earthly Trappings" follows a soft-spoken dwarven wizard-in-training as he travels with a brash elven woman and a human ranger with a stare of ice. When the local prince is captured by a mysterious cult, these three friends will see just how close to divinity they can get.

    Chapter one

    Good Morning

The sapphire moon hangs over the beach like a light bulb dangling from exposed cables. The waves come in, the waves come out. A heartbeat recreated on a planetary scale, driven by the heaves and hoes of gravitational dynamics.

    The waves cease.

The moon shudders, and bright veins of orange and red appear across its surface. It balloons in size, turning into a liquid star as magma blooms into lava in geysers.

The waves recede completely, past the horizon, and then come back with an apocalyptic fury. Lava-light dances on the crests, and the world drowns.

Veiyos shot up in his sleeping pod, smacking his forehead right on the polished, pearly ceiling, leaving a spot of condensation where his sweat-beaded skin had contacted it. As he receded back against his pillow, cursing beneath his breath, his pod slid open.

    "Good morning, Doctor."

Good morning, Veiyos said, staring up at the white tiles that made up the ceiling of his room. After a few moments, he sat up, rubbing sweat off of his face, the beads glistening off of his ashy grey skin. His room was barren, devoid of any furniture
