Author
Mark Twain
Mark Twain, who was born Samuel L. Clemens in Missouri in 1835, wrote some of the most enduring works of literature in the English language, including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc was his last completed book—and, by his own estimate, his best. Its acquisition by Harper & Brothers allowed Twain to stave off bankruptcy. He died in 1910.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Mark Twain's 'Roughing It ' gives a phenomenal narrative of his recollections that are written in such detail, one feels transported to the Sandwhich Islands.
This history and practices of the natives of these islands suggest his thrilling accounts of their customs and whom they were to their people. The Royal family treated with reverence and the respect shown to heads of state, when so many other accounts are negative and try to discount these "gods" as mere savages. Twain has the ability to take us along as he travels from island to island, as if we were there beside him.
