The real name of Mrs. Claus is “Santa Christina.” For a long, long time, however, girls and boys (and parents and grandparents) never knew the real name of Mrs. Claus. They gave all their attention to her husband, Santa Claus, because he delivered toys to children who believe in Christmas. If people thought about Mrs. Claus, they imagined her “keeping house” at the North Pole, knitting in a rocking chair, baking cookies, or serving hot chocolate to Santa Claus and the Elves. But now, boys and girls (and parents and grandparents) know different. Santa Christina is an active sportsperson, mushing almost every day with her sled and her team of seven sled dogs. Santa Christina first went to the aid of Santa Claus when his job got too big. Santa Christina and her sled dogs now race alongside Santa Claus and his reindeer. The Elves call it “The Two Santas Christmas Eve Toy Race.” Each Santa delivers one-half of the Christmas toys to countries around the globe on Christmas Eve. Santa Claus wears holly-berry-red, and Santa Christina wears holly-leaf-green. Born in Evergreen, Alabama, George William Kelly has lived most of his adult life in New York City’s Borough of Manhattan. He is now retired after a career in journalism and public relations. He attended the University of Alabama and the University of Pennsylvania and holds a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University. His wife, Jain Wright Kelly, is a writer-editor-historian in the field of art photography. Their daughter, Georgette V. Kelly, a playwright and educator, lives in Chicago.
