About this ebook
When paleontologist Nick Eisenberg learns that someone thinks they have found velociraptor bones in Alberta, his curiosity overrides his desire to stay in London. After all, he’s one of the world’s leading experts on prehistoric predators and has always wanted to look for the velociraptor’s North American cousins. There’s only one problem: eco-conservationist Hunter Joseph. While Nick supervises the dig, Hunter rallies support from the locals to oppose the way the team is destroying the landscape in their search for dinosaur bones.
Nick and Hunter just cannot get along. Hunter is self-righteous and pouty. Nick is narrow-minded and geeky. But they have to figure out how to work on the same site without killing each other, especially since someone else out there seems determined to cause Nick more problems than he could have ever imagined.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I am definitely not the only one interested in dinosaurs, and probably not the only one fascinated by paleontologists. To find a book like this which puts the science of paleontology in direct conflict with eco-conservationism was a true treat. It's not a conflict I had ever thought about, because usually the ecologists face Big Oil or other industrial eco-sinners. And while they may be the bigger danger to the environment, anyone disturbing the wildlife by being where they're not supposed to be could be a danger. I loved this new perspective a lot and enjoyed seeing the two main characters face off and fight over who was "more right" than the other.
Nick is an ambitious paleontlogist specializing in velociraptors. Ever since Jurassic Park (both the book and the movies) they hold a special place in my nightmares, so to see a scientist fascinated by them was interesting. Nick is all about the scientific truth and forgets he has to operate in the real world. Finding the conservationists after him was a bit of a shock to him, and he has no idea how to manage them and their demands, nor does he know what to do about Hunter. The man both infuriates him and fires his imagination.
Hunter is determined to save the world one ecosystem at a time. He does everything in his power to make the scientists see what they are doing, or more exactly how they are doing it, is wrong. When someone else suddenly seems to be threatening the dig, Hunter is at a loss as to what to do. He has figured out that he is interested in Nick - the man - despite all their professional differences. Not that it solves anything, but it is a good first step.
If you like scientists battling it out with the real world, if a geeky conservationists butting heads with a snobby scientist sounds like an interesting tale, and if you're looking for a read that is as fascinating and imaginative as it is tension-filled and hot, then you will probably like this novel.
