Introduction
Saint Charles Borromeo (Arona 1538-Milan 1584), whose life experience is renowned worldwide, left us a wide array of documents (Acts of the Milanese church, letters, documents regarding the city and the diocese, homilies, writings) which represent the source for these few clear, simple and efficacious aphorisms.
These thoughts are suitable both for reading and for listening, without need for interpretation or further studies.
While reaffirming the integrity of the Saint’s works, these aphorisms do not reflect a specific historical period.
They speak about the Absolute and about eternity. Thus, they speak about actuality.
They are emblematic and are taken from a variety of materials presented within the volume Per ragioni di salute. San Carlo Borromeo nel quarto centenario della canonizzazione 1610-2010 (Milan 2010), which we worked on over the course of more than twenty-five years of research.
