    INTRODUCTION.

The dark night, which enveloped workers in a protective and pleasurable sleep placenta, was about to break. Sunlight teased through curtains and slowly, but surely, the inevitable happened. The realization by millions that the 9-5 Monday to Friday was taking shape. Jules Berry was slowly taking in this 'realization'. She groaned as her mobile chimed a Dolly Parton classic. 'Sure!!...what a way to make a living' she mused. 'Up an at em,’ she added, something her father would say to her. She didn't believe in people who hit the 'snooze' button. 'Cowards' she would say to that. For novelty and personal amusement, her alarm had always been set at 06.01.

She made her way downstairs as softly as possible. Her parents were sleeping peacefully, at least for today. They usually woke, eternally alarmed by the clunk of her black boots descending the wooden stairs. 'Tea Time in Mullingar,’ her favorite personalized cup. Waiting for her were two teabags and two sugars. Jules liked things strong in the morning. 'Tea-bagging' she chuckled to herself. If her gay friend, Dwyer, were here... Checking her mobile, it was now 06.27! Just enough time to walk briskly, like a soldier striding in an ordered march. She would always 'power walk' or 'dyke stride' as she would put it.

There was never any doubt as to the sexual orientation of Jules Berry.

She fit all the criteria of a typical lesbian type. With a buzz cut hair style, slicked the assumptions were soon apparent. Of the two lesbian 'genres' (the other being the perfumed princess), she was your average ‘angry dyke'. Although the term 'dyke' was viewed universally as an obscenity, she was perfectly well aware of this well aware and comfortable with using it anyway. She revelled in flaunting her sexuality to the world. She was outspoken, campaigned about anything that had any shred of evidence towards gay people, lesbians in particular, meat bone. She was feisty, confident as a sparring boxer in battle.

Jules wasn't born with natural beauty. She didn't possess a feminine hourglass figure with beautiful, free-flowing brown hair. Her hair was a barren, tawny brown with no body, hence the reason for the barber buzz-cut. Her skin was plain and pallid, the odd pimple breaking out when it could, and she swore to wear no make-up.

Her lips were chapped and shabby as a homeless person living rough on the streets. She had a bulky figure, inherited by her father, and also his robust looks.

The bus had been later than usual that morning .Jules had been awoken by a fellow commuter, drool on her chin, following an hour long snore riddled commute. She reached her destination on time. It was 08.51, just enough to make time for some Monday chitchat with her fellow co-workers, whether she liked it or not.

Oh hi...Jules, Stacey chirped, a permanent cosmetically enhanced set of teeth grinning at her.

'Fake as those new acrylics,’ Jules concluded. Nonetheless, she endured this superficial small talk. She left, leaving the other girls to extinguish their cigarettes. That dyke is soooo up her own arse. She thinks she's better than everyone else, Stacey said, within intended earshot of Jules.

Jules didn't even bother to respond to this. If there was one thing that Jules excelled in, it was control of her self-confidence. Flying insults meant nothing anymore. All Jules dreamed about now was love...

Jules call centre's gender team was uneven. A gaggle of gay men minced publicly round their pods as if marking their territory each time they logged in. Stacey and Natasha were the only 'straights' of a team comprised of eight agents. Five gay men, two straight women, and one lesbian.

Due to their orientation, it was inevitable that the 'gays' and the 'straights' would merge into cliques. Jules respected the unspoken homosexuality rule- gay men for gay men, gay women for gay women. It was a given rule, so Jules was on her own and accepted her fate 'dutifully'.

She rushed to her computer, logging in at 9am 04 seconds.

She knew she would be in some kind of trouble for being 'late', but on Mondays, some leeway was given. To be any bit late past a minute could spell disaster. But she was never late. Travelling 100 miles a day, there were others who lived five seconds away that were always late and escaped management's wrath.

Fergus, the team's boss, briefed them soon after they had logged in. Guys, I'm changing you around, he said weakly.Jules-you're too far away from us. Natasha and Stacey will be joining you. It's time to integrate into our society. We're a TEAM!!He pointed to their new desks, side by side, and instructed them to move their 'furniture' to the new seating area as soon as possible. Natasha, Stacey, and Jules looked at each other with revulsion. Jules could barely getting through a day, working on her own, blocking out the bitching and brain-dead conversations. Now though, with their company side by side, she would have to endure endless conversations about Jersey Shore and other equally quality, mentally challenged shows.

Jules coughed at the liberal powder Stacey used to cover herself. Second course was her whorish lilac lipstick, complete with chocolate lip balm. Dessert was an orange sauce, painted all over her face, so much so that she was akin to an Oompa-Loompa. However, all Jules' bad luck this morning was about to change. Waiting for files to upload, eyes fixed on the computer, Jules analyzed Stacey's sudden dramatics.

Ohhhhh my God Natasha!! Who is tha'??, she said in her usual cheap and trashy inner city accent. Natasha studied Stacey's motioning rolling eyes at some new girl about to sit down across from Jules.

This question was one laced with disgust at a homely looking girl, who had her head down as if almost in shame. Jules equally studied this new 'specimen', who was doing her best to sit down professionally as if she had been there years. In any event, 'newbies',or new recruits, could be spotted and sniffed out for miles.
