I'm looking forward to reading this chapter by chapter to my daughters. Wonderful stories with great plots, characters and situations as well as a sound morality.

This is the second time I've read the series...the third time I've read The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe...it's interesting the things I've picked up on this time around that I just didn't pay attention to before. And I'm not talking the obvious Christian spin...I'm talking about the geographic layout of Narnia and the way the stories intertwine. So far I've finished the first 3 books (if you're reading chronologically) and I'm far more impressed this time around than I was a couple of years ago.

I made it through The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and I have to take a breather. It's so much easier to read the HP books all in a row...these just get tiresome after a while.

My favourites are "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe" & "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader". These are worth 4 - 5 stars. "The Last Battle" is horrible, bleak and depressing. All the books have dodgy theology, but the best ones make up for it with a decent plot.

Four kids- Peter, Edmond, Susan and Lucy, go through the door of a wardrobe and find Narnia- a world locked in winter by the White Witch. Lucy (the youngest) finds Narnia and her siblings don't believe her until Peter discovers it for himself. The four, with the help of Aslan (a lion) and many other magical creatures save Narnia from the Witch Witch and clear up the snowy grounds. I was mad at Peter for betraying his siblings and going on the White Witch's side. I would never leave my brothers- ever. I don't like Peter! I wanted to give him a swirly, or hang him by his draws to a flag pole. And The White Witch scared the crap out of me! I didn't like her either. Overall, this book was very well written and the movie doesn't do the book any justice. Sometimes your imagination can make a much better movie than some producer can. That's why I like books.

I did not come upon these books until I was in or just out of college, I don't know why. But I have enjoyed being drawn into Narnia several times since then and will probably do so again some day (especially if I have grandchildren). Lewis's theology is not mine, or not completely, but I think one can enjoy these books with or without the Christian allegory.

The Narnia books are all over the map in quality. I love "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" and "The Magician's Nephew." I'm okay with "Dawn Treader," "Caspian," and "The Silver Chair." I loathe "The Last Battle." I still don't know what to think about "The Horse and his Boy." So the three stars is very much an average; there is wide variation.

The Lion, the Witch, and The Wardrobe Prince Caspian The Voyage of the DawnTreader The Silver Chair The Horse and his Boy The Magicians Nephew The Last BattleNarnia, sweet Narnia. When I was young, your tales made my imagination swirl. You were the sweet little brother to Lord of the Rings. As a kid brother, we enjoyed hanging out at first. Your silly antics and off kilter view of reality made me smile. LOTR and I thought you were fancy in your way. Before long, we had out grown you. Your psuedo-serious outlook on the world no longer caught our attention. While LOTR and I grew up, you stayed the same. You lacked depth and fell back on religion like a crutch. Though getting older, you continued to prey on the young; like a creepy guy who searches out and only dates high school (or younger) children. Though still friends, you and I no longer communicated. LOTR and I continued to pal around.Recently, I found that I was missing you. Some films were made in the last few years detailing your exploits and I forgot your faults, remembering the glory days in vivid technicolor CG digital surround sound awesomeness . Watching them brought back great memories indeed. I went out and looked you up. You were easy to find, everyone knew who you were. I was nervous to meet up as it had been so long.In the end, we hung out in a series of seven sessions. In the first, everything was cool, we were getting along fine overall. By the second and third i was over you.. I was done hanging out, but we had made plans and I hate to flake. By the 7th, I was done. figuratively, physically, meticulously, fabrically, foodily, etc. done. NO MORE.As far as I am concerned, you can stick to pleasing the kiddies. You and I no longer have anything in common Narnia.~~~~For those who could not tell, I bought the chronicles of narnia in aboxed set. It didnt cost me much, about 30 bucks at Powells. All of the cover art was the same as one the versions I read as a kid. The stories were still the same, and the goals and plot were as remembered. I forgot how GODDAMN HEAVY HANDED C.S. Lewis was.Anyway, great for kids, not so great for someone who has expanded his/her reading base.If I were to have to choose a favorite of the INKlings, I would gladly choose Tolkien. This is not to lesen the work of Lewis, but damn.. I wish I would have left it in the realm of memory and not re-read the series.

One of the few books I've ever thrown in the trash. The ending was (at best) a poorly executed piece of Christian propaganda, and (at worst) a betrayal of not just the reader, but the characters.

Good stories, but the writing is a little too "young" for me and the stories are a bit too "churchy" for me. I can understand, tho, why millions of kids love this series and the movies are good fun.

I enjoyed these as a child; I find them unreadable now (except for 'A Horse and His Boy', the funniest and least preachy of the lot). Far too overt with the message; sledgehammers are less emphatic.

a great book about imaginative kids that go on an epic adventure to a mythical land that needs to be saved from an evil tyrant.

I read these novels individually a couple of times in the 70s, again in the 80s and most recently when the movie was released in 2005.

As a child, I enjoyed these stories because they were great adventures. As an adult, with children of my own, I saw and appreciated the deeper meaning and morals presented on many levels.

I would highly recommend this to children, parents and just about anyone else.

This is a fabulous series in it's entirety. Of course the most popular book in the series is "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe", however, I feel that the best way to approach this series is to read it from book one to seven. There is no doubt that the use of 7 books is meaningful considering the theme of these books, however, even if you aren't a Christian you can enjoy them. The themes are there for those who know the stories of the Bible, but those who do not or choose not to need not worry. The book is a fantastical story about four children who experience another world through there leader, friend, and guide a great lion named Aslan. If you like fantasy creatures, talking trees, witches, and a series of other creatures you will love this series.

A great story from the begining. I just plowed right though the whole series. I couldn't wait to get to the next one. I really liked the real to fantasy world that trasitions. Though, I didn't like the way the series ended.

Classic, beautiful stories that are great partially for their simplicity and brevity--the lack of overbearing descriptions lets the reader's imagination go. Completely lovable characters and great connections between the plots of the individual books.

You can never be too old for Narnia. C.s. Lewis' writing style is so perfect, you really feel like you are in Narnia. My fave of the set is The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The only book in the series i didn't really like was The Horse and His Boy.

The entire series is wonderful. In fact I find it hard to imagine one book without the others. I especially like the ones which delve into the history of the worlds and movement between them.

Perhaps seven of the best written children's novels, the Chronicles of Narnia provide an entrancing peek into a world where Lions are good, evil is clearly defined, mythical creatures talk with mortals, and right always triumphs over wrong.

Of course it is a wonderful allegory for Christianity, but it opens the door to the whole idea of the divine incarnation as something OTHER than Jesus as preached by the evangelicals. Aslan is very much his own creature--he's not a tame lion.

I would recommend this book to people who enjoy reading about fantasy. This book is about a group of kids who are brothers 7 sisters who have an adventure in an undiscovered land called Narnia. They meet a talking lion named Aslan and they go to war with the witch to determine who will be in charge of Narnia.

I have been an on-again, off-again fan of the Narnia books. Currently I am on-again. While I love fantasy these books can be a little hard to get through at times. The writing is masterful but not the easiest read in the world. You have to WANT to read the book. It helps to have an idea of where the story line is going.

A great and fun series. Our family has delighted in this series for years, and may we do so for years to come.
