CHEMISTRY
Preface
Dr. Vivekkumar K Redasani and Dr. Sanjay B Bari
The role of medicinal chemistry in the discovery of drugs and later medicines has now become an integral part of science. Discovery in any area is a never-ending process. However, of the several fields of working, there is a need to keep updating the developments in medicinal chemistry. This is an approach where, apart from therapeutic effects, the unwanted effects are also in need of study. This book is a means of communication between students and young scientists working in the area of prodrugs. It will provide a framework for learning the necessary skills and applying them powerfully.
A growing demand in medicinal chemistry encourages us to proceed in publishing this book. Apart from the researchers, great care has been taken to keep in view the needs of students and students from various universities across the globe will benefit from reading this book. The book contains a great deal of valuable information that is supported by illustrations. A proper classification system dependent upon the therapeutic class has ensured that all aspects of medicinal chemistry are covered in relation to prodrugs. This gives an idea of how widely the concept of prodrugs can be applied. The simplified methods of preparation of derivatives should create an interest in budding researchers that will motivate them towards this field whilst also removingany fears students may have of organic and medicinal chemistry. Current and updated examples ensure that the contents are fully up-to-date.
The book contents are divided into several partsencompassing an introduction, drug discovery and the reported work on prodrugs. Following the Introduction, the book covers the concept, types, classes, and approaches in a logical order. A chapter on application relates the present state of affairs and highlights the current need for prodrugs. Following on from its role in drug discovery, an updated reported work is discussed, offering a new sight into prodrug research. All chapters have also been thoroughly referenced.
Given the approach that we have taken, we are confident this book will appeal to academic and industrial researchers in chemistry medicine and pharmacy, as well as teachers of the subjects at this level.
We are grateful for and acknowledge our management and principal for their motivational support and spirit of inspiration. We are also thankful to all those individuals who contributed directly or indirectly in the completion of this
