    *****CHAPTER ONE*****

Twenty-seven year old LaMeisha Bronson picked up her ringing cell phone and checked the caller ID. She smiled when she saw that it was her older brother, Jerrod, calling her.

Hi, Jerrod, she trilled into the phone. You're calling to let me know that you're coming into town for a visit?

Jerrod frowned on the other end, then smiled. He missed his two younger sisters and his parents, but the nature of his job as a photojournalist kept him traveling for most of the year. He felt blessed that he was at least able to see them for most major holidays.

No, Meisha. I'm actually calling to give you a heads up. A little birdie in the executive department here at Voxton Media told me something you may be interested in. He told me there may be some trouble on the horizon for White Lightning Productions in a year or two. He paused, then continued. I'm not trying to scare you or anything, but you may want to start looking for a new job.

LaMeisha frowned as she listened to her brother share details on how investors were starting to bail out on White Lightning Productions, her employer.

After she'd gotten off the phone with Jerrod, she shook her head, then smiled. Yeah she was a little concerned about her job, but she had faith. She knew irregardless of what happened, God would have her back.

    A Year Later:

LaMeisha smiled at her friend and coworker, Danielle, as the pretty brown-skinned girl joined her in the media room at White Lightning Productions. LaMeisha was making last second changes to a project for one of their biggest marketing clients.

Hey, Danielle. Did you get the Madison Pictures raw video footage, yet? I'm almost done here, I'm ready to start on it.

Danielle gave LaMeisha a frown. She hated to be the bearer of bad news. Uh, yeah, I got it this morning, but—

LaMeisha could tell from the tone of her friend's voice that something was wrong. She pulled her hands away from her laptop and studied Danielle a little more carefully. She felt a sinking sensation in the pit of her stomach. Lord, please don't let my suspicion be true. She sighed. It's my turn isn't it?

Danielle's eyes met LaMeisha's. I'm sorry, boo...Mr. McKinley sent me in here to ask you to come to his office.

Mr. McKinley was the owner of White Lightning Productions. Only a year earlier, White Lightning had been the premier video editor for many popular 'made-for-television' family movies. Now, Mr. McKinley was struggling to keep the doors of his business open. The gentle giant had been forced to fire a third of his employees in the last nine months alone. As it had turned out, her big brother had been right—right about the internal problems at her job. He'd warned her about everything almost a year ago.

LaMeisha sighed again. She ran her hand over her shoulder-length curls, pushing them back from her pretty caramel-colored face. She frowned. Well, I guess I should have been expecting this.

Danielle came over and gave LaMeisha a heartfelt hug. Danielle pulled back and frowned. "I really am sorry about this LaMeisha. If there's anything I can do for you, you know you better call me."

LaMeisha nodded her head as the words from her pastor's sermon the previous Sunday came to her mind, The Lord never closes one door without opening up another one.

She was praying like the dickens that it would prove to be true in her case.

An hour later, LaMeisha had successfully cleared most of her belongings out of her desk drawer. She'd given some of her things to a few of her coworkers—kinda as momentos or keepsakes.

She'd been at White Lightning Productions for a little over five years, so she considered a lot of the people in her department to be more than just associates....they were her friends.

Everyone had of course promised to keep in touch. However, LaMeisha was well aware of how people could grow apart—especially if you didn't see them too often.

She sighed as she pulled out of her reserved parking spot for the last time. She was going to miss the place.

It only took her twenty minutes to make it to her nice, upper-middle class home. As she pulled into her double driveway, a frown worked it's way across her pretty face. Now that she didn't have a job, there was no way she could afford the almost two-thousand dollar per month house note.

She dropped her head onto her steering wheel and did something she hadn't done in a long while—she cried.

Several minutes later, she pulled a tissue from her console and began dabbing at her eyes. She almost got choked up again as she realized she was going to probably lose her zippy little Mercedes-Benz, as well. The country was currently in a recession. She knew that finding another job—one that paid as well as the one she'd just been let go from—would be difficult, if not impossible.

She inhaled deeply and shook her head. What am I going to do, Lord? she whispered to the empty vehicle. What am I going to do?

    Two Months Later:

LaMeisha pressed the enter button on her laptop and submitted yet another application for employment. Then she checked her emails again. Nope nothing.

It had been two months since she'd received her pink-slip from White Lightnings, and she still hadn't found a new position.

She took a deep breath and pushed her back into her chair, away from the computer.

All of her family and friends had always considered LaMeisha to be the positive one — the person who looked on the bright side of things—the individual who encouraged others to just implement their faith in the Lord if things were going bad in their lives. But as she sat at her kitchen table — submitting job application, after job application that morning — she realized she was gonna need
