Katherine and Darryl stumbled through the front door of the cabin, holding their backpacks above their heads. A storm raged outside, wind whipping at their backs as they forced their way over the threshold and into the little cabin.

Oh my god! Katherine gasped and dropped her things on the wooden floor. Fuck the weatherman!

Not literally. Darryl forced the door closed behind them, deafening the torrent.

No, yes, literally! Up the ass! She grabbed at her soaking wet clothes and starting ringing them out. No rain, he said! Clear skies all weekend, he said! She growled and pulled her jacket off, dropping it on the floor on top of her backpack. What a filthy, dirty little liar!

Darryl smiled and shook his head and moved Katherine's things out of the doorway. He knew better than to interrupt her when she was like this.

I'd like to find out where he is and... shoot him! Katherine stomped angrily back and forth, dripping water all over the floor, before throwing her arms up. She took a couple of long breaths, to calm her rage, before looking around them. Where are we, anyways?

The two of them had been planning the getaway weekend for months now. Between Katherine's finals and Darryl's increased workload, the both of them barely got any time to see each other nowadays. The camping trip was supposed to be a relaxed vacation in which they sat around a campfire, cuddling and eating s'mores until their stomachs exploded.

Except it decided to rain and Katherine's temper exploding. They had almost made it to the campsite, but the sudden storm all but washed away the path, making it difficult to see where their next footstep was going, let along where they were pitching their tents. It was by a stroke of good luck that they managed to find the little cabin when they did.

I don't remember anything about a cabin on any of the maps, Darryl said, and pulled a map out of his backpack and laid it out on the table. Katherine peered over shoulder.

There's something, she said, and pointed. A little square, a half-mile away from where the path was supposed to be.

That's on private property.

They exchanged glances.

Well, I don't want to leave, Katherine said, and shrugged. It's pretty nice here, actually.

And it was. The cabin was a quaint little thing, small and cozy, with only two rooms. Everything had a fine layer of dust over it, so the best she could assume was that it was abandoned, or at least recently unused. In either case, the place looked completely livable, with a kitchen and a dining room, and what looked like a bedroom through a door in the back. The owner even managed to own a bookshelf full of paperback novels. Now that she had calmed down a bit, the smell of rain seeping in under the front door almost made her sleepy.

Caught by curiosity, Katherine started poking around in the kitchen area, opening up the cabinets and bravely peeking inside what looked liked a freezer before reporting that it was empty. She managed to find a box of matches and held them out for Darryl. Come on, boy scout, she said, making her voice heavy and sultry. She sauntered up to him and held out the matches shyly. Make us a fire? She tilted her head towards the cast iron stove along the back wall.

Darryl sighed and took the matches from her. Sure he was a boy scout, but building a fire inside a stove was a bit different than building one on the forest floor.

Luck was on their side, and he had a little flame going within several minutes. Katherine crouched down next to him and they stared
