    Soulfull Sins - Tre

    Foreword

This project was a task within a task. Alot of distractions came into play which made me doubt myself. Made me doubt if I could ever turn these words on paper into an actual accomplishment that would be shared with the public. There were no helping hands that played a part in this. What you are about to engage in are the long hours, efforts, & tears of a man who refused to throw this story away & chalk it up as a failure. This was something I stuck with without studying the margin of its success. When all is said & done I can look back on this and say I did it. So many reasons appeared as to why I couldn’t do it- but the fact that I wanted to do it was the only reason I needed to finish!

    Chapter 1

    The Beginning

    The Beginning

April.15th, 2006: The forecast calls for an over casted evening. The disappearing sun & accumulating clouds give a blue type tint to the Brooklyn sky. Car horns, profanity, and casual conversations fill the air. The East New York part of Brooklyn is known for its increasing murder rate, constant street gang rivalries, & consistent drug use among young African Americans & Hispanics. Needless to say it’s no different from any other area in Brooklyn. Within the midst of the madness some try to keep their heads above water while others try keeping their heads on their shoulders. One person trying to accomplish both feats is a young college hopeful turned hustler by the name of Alonzo Downs.

The son of an abusive Dominican father (who went by the name Noel) & drug abusing Black mother (who went by the name Carol)-Alonzo wasn’t left with many options growing up. With the persistent arguments coming from the apartment where Alonzo was raised with his older brother Samont-many people thought that he would amount to nothing. But by staying in school, & ultimately graduating high school, he proved all the nay sayers wrong.

During his second year of college his mother died of a drug overdose. The loss of his mother left him bitter towards the world & accusing of his father. With money matters getting tight, and with him refusing help from his father (who was a construction foreman), Alonzo decided to engage in the life which his mother abused. He went from nickel & diming to one of the key eight-ball distributors. To him- stomping with the big dogs was like tap dancing with puppies. His mother’s habit was a key lesson on how to maneuver within the game. He grew up around drugs, so selling them almost became second nature. Under the teachings of a neighborhood hustler named Odie he became efficient, reliable, & profitable. He never wanted to be notorious like other drug dealers who came before him. His motto was Calmness is essential-but violent when necessary. That rule took his hustle a very long way. His calm manner made him liked by both children & elders . . . & made him seemingly attractive to all women. His violent manner instilled fear- point blank.

His brother Samont was serving time in prison for a parole violation which held a sentence of 2 years. During their younger years, Samont stayed in trouble with the law- so Alonzo was basically forced to fend for himself as a kid. Samont’s previous time was short, but Alonzo still made visits. And with every visit Samont would try to convince Alonzo to patch things up with their father-but those words fell on deaf ears. Yo, man . . . you can’t blame Noel for mommy’s death, man. Mommy chose that life, yo, Samont would say. With a street thug expression & a blunt response Alonzo would say If the motherfucker took more time being protective as oppose to being abusive . . . mommy would still be here. So don’t give me that shit. Instead of continuing a debate he knew he couldn’t win, Samont would change the subject. So how the streets treating you? Samont would ask. The streets are still the streets. Some niggaz show love, others express hate. But I’m a one man show, & they don’t know how I’m coming. So I handles mine, Alonzo would answer in a calm manner. Visits with his brother would last around 45 minutes to an hour. When the visit was done Alonzo was headed back to the streets & Samont was headed back to a cell.

As time passed Noel became extremely sick from a liver disease which was caused by heavy drinking. It got so bad that he had to quit his job & be hospitalized. Alonzo put all his hatred aside to be by his father’s side. He wanted Noel to know during his last days that all was forgiven. This was the picture that Samont had hoped for, & Alonzo gave it to him. Eventually Noel died-but he died knowing that his baby loved him. Now with both parents gone-the streets became Alonzo’s college.

On this 15th day of April a midnight blue Acura MDX with smoke gray interior is parked under the New Lots train station on the 3 line. The driver wears a blue Yankee cap over his eyes only revealing his nose & mouth. With his wool Yankee jacket unbuttoned he straightens his gold chain which seems to be laying incorrectly. The driver is Alonzo . . . & he’s waiting for the arrival of his girlfriend Rain Phalls.

Alonzo & Rain met three years ago on March 23rd. Their relationship began with casual greetings upon seeing each other. The occasional Hi & Bye is all that was said. Then one day when he seen her walking, he took time from his grind to walk with her. As they walked & talked Rain was impressed with how Alonzo was such a well spoken conversationalist. In return Alonzo was even more impressed with how down to earth Rain really was. Be as though Rain always kept a serious expression on her face & hardly spoke to anyone, brothers in the hood considered her conceited. But Alonzo learned that wasn’t the case.

Rain was a savvy college student who worked in Downtown Manhattan. Her body had curves like a race track, & her face was decorated with wide eyes & luscious lips. She wore a black blazer, fitted cream slacks that showed her track star figure, & black leather pumps. She sported her hair in a French-bun with a bang that stopped directly above her eyebrows. She was the perfect picture for a brother on the grind.

As their conversation continued they learned each others likes & dislikes. The fact that Alonzo was a street cat with a good head on his shoulders intrigued Rain even more. Alonzo asked her, By the way . . . why do you carry such a serious look on your face?. Rain responded by saying, There’s always a reason to smile, but everything is not a joke. Alonzo thought her answer was gangster. By the end of the conversation she invited Alonzo to have lunch with her someday . . . & he accepted. She dug into her black leather purse & pulled out a pen with a small piece of paper. She wrote down her number & gave it to him. A few days later Alonzo called-they met up, & thus was the beginning of Alonzo & Rain.

As he sat there waiting-slightly leaned back in his seat with his left hand resting against the left side of his face, he shifts his eyes in a thief type fashion to the CD player where the clock was located. The clock had the numbers 6-4-2 written across in a digital pattern. At this time he hears a train pulling into the station. New Lots Ave is the last stop in Brooklyn on the 3 line so a good number of people would be getting off the train-& he expected Rain to be one of them. While he sat there staring at the steering wheel (day dreaming about the way he & Rain will celebrate his 31st birthday which is two months away) he couldn’t help but notice the sound of people making their way down the stairs of the station. Different nationalities coincide for a brief moment before breaking off in their own separate directions. Complaints of the work day & laughter could be heard by the departing passengers. Blacks & Hispanics are common in East New York-but a white man stuck out like a sore thumb. Especially one in a blue uniform wearing a silver badge on the left side of his chest, & accompanied by a black partner who was dressed the same. To anyone else these were cops, but Alonzo labeled them as Smurfs (the little blue men). He always had a different way of describing things. Guns were Shorty’s-weed was Latin Lettuce-close friends were Clamenza’s, etc. He didn’t make much eye contact with the Smurfs because of the shorty he had tucked in the waistline of his Guess jeans. He knew any type of eye contact would have probably made them approach him, & he didn’t need that.

Out the corner of his eye he notices a woman coming down the stairs. The street lights shine on her caramel coated complexion. She wears a tan three quarter length jacket, with a black skirt, & matching tan heels. A laptop carrier over her left shoulder & a New York Post in her right hand. His almond shaped eyes connects with her wide ones, & a neutral flirtatious smile is exchanged between the two of them. She makes her way to the car, gets in on the passenger side, & greets him with a 5 second kiss. His Rain has arrived.

Alonzo: Peace, baby. How was your day?

Rain: My day was good . . . & how about yours?

Alonzo: It was a day. My day was just about perfect until these faggot ass Smurfs tried to eyeball me just now

Rain: You got your Shorty on you?

Alonzo: Now c’mon, beloved. You know my rule.

Rain: You rather have it & not need it than need it & not have it. Yes I know.

Alonzo: (pulling the gun out) Well-fuck them cats. Put it in the glove compartment for me & lock it. Are you hungry?

Rain: A little. I had a light lunch this afternoon. What you got a taste for?

    Alonzo: You!

Rain: (in a flirtatious tone) Oh yeah? So let me get my baby home so he can eat.

Alonzo: I gotta make a quick stop at the barbershop over on Cozine & pick up this doe from this dude. He was suppose to pay me last week & I’ve yet to see him.

Rain: What . . . you made a bet, or is this dealing with your business?

Alonzo: (sensing her dismay) You know what? I can see him tomorrow. Let’s get home and spend some Q-T.

Even though Rain knew of Alonzo’s lifestyle, she couldn’t help but worry. She knew his line of work made him popular in the hood, but she also knew that his popularity would bring unknown haters to his circle. Being a 9-5 worker all day & a college student on certain evenings (Tuesdays & Thursdays) didn’t mean that she didn’t have a sense of what the streets were like.

Rain came from a hard working Caribbean family. They came to New York from St. Croix when Rain was two. Her father (who went by the name Claude) had very good plumbing skills. So finding a job wasn’t hard for him once they arrived. Her mother (whose name was Martha) went to nursing school here, & earned her degree in 3 years. Along for the trip were Rain’s two siblings. Her sister Solè (pronounced So-Lay . . . who is the oldest of the three), & her brother Jacori (who is the second oldest).

Rain had a very good upbringing. Togetherness was the main thing in her household. Both Claude & Martha worked (sometimes double shifts), so it was up to Solè to make sure things were right in the house. But as they got older different temptations began to settle in. Solè found an interest in young men, Rain (who was too young for boys) found friendship in the form of little girls from her block, & the streets called Jacori. The Canarsie part of Brooklyn (which is populated with private houses & one housing project) isn’t as bad as the Cypress Hill area in East New York where Alonzo is from. Both areas have drugs and murder, but Canarsie had more of a tranquil atmosphere. To most people who were used to crack heads in staircases & pissy elevators-these were the suburbs. But all the tranquility Canarsie had to offer could not stop what would be Jacori’s fate.

Back in ‘92 it became obvious to Claude what Jacori’s new level of interest was. Even though Claude had a well paying job it was clear that Jacori’s wardrobe became highly expensive. Jacori still went to school, but only to avoid the cutting cards from coming to his house. He became rebellious, & harder to reach by both his mother & father. Martha would warn him of the way things were. She knew the fast money & all the luxuries surrounding it always had tragic endings. Martha’s worst fear was seeing Jacori being taken away in handcuffs into some blue & white car. But that would have been a blessing.

On a brisk night in October, Jacori & four of his new found friends were standing in front of the local Chinese restaurant. To the naked eye it just looked like five guys hanging out, but to the neighborhood crack heads this was an all night bodega. Small viles of crack would be exchanged for $5 dollars & better. Serve & Slide was the routine. Serve a customer, & let he or she Slide down the block before a cop noticed the transaction. Everyday guy talk is what is being exchanged amongst the five teens. Sexual stories of the local project girls are being told. Told by each of the guys except Jacori. Living in a private house made it difficult to tell interesting stories of the projects.

As he blew cigarette smoke from his mouth . . . Jacori noticed two guys crossing the street to where he & his friends were standing. He didn’t think much of it-until he noticed they were holding guns. By that time they were eight feet away . . . & it was too late to warn his friends or even run. "BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM". Eight shots were released on that street corner, & those eight shots would change Rain’s family’s life forever. When the smoke was cleared & the dust was settled-Jacori was left laying on the street with a bullet in his chest, & one through his left eye. His brains were splattered on the window of the restaurant . . . the only casualty on that night. Not too long after the scene was populated by half the neighborhood & police officers. Cops would ask the spectators if they seen anything as they stood behind the yellow tape, but got nothing. Everyone admitted to hearing the shots, but no one seen the shooters. Events like this would always bring out the parents of the neighborhood. Each of them hoping that they would not have to receive the news of their young ones being the victim.

Making their way to the scene were Martha & Solè. A neighbor held Rain back, & Claude was working a double. Suddenly a shrieking cry was heard. The sight of her only son laying in his own blood made Martha vomit. Solè (crying uncontrollable) tried to console her mother. Rain, standing in the distance, was given a harsh but real lesson of the streets. The only thing Claude & Martha had left was two daughters who would never recover from the events of this night.

The family grew further & further apart. Solè went to college at Grambling University where she studied forensics. Having a 19 year old daughter in college made Claude & Martha very happy as well as proud, but the pride they had in having a daughter in college could not block out the pain of having a son who was dead at the age of 16. Dead because he was with the wrong crowd. Dead because he didn’t heed his mother’s warning. Dead because of a street gang rivalry-dead for no reason.

Rain started high school a few years after. Her body started to take on a life of its own. Both teenage boys & adult men started to take notice of her woman-like features. But Rain was into her school work-& regardless to how attractive she may have found a man to be-her brother’s murder made it hard for her to trust anyone for a while. She would date every now & again, but nothing serious. During her senior year . . . Martha died from diabetes. Now just Rain & her father were left in a house that once occupied five. Solè would make periodic visits, but nothing would be able to restore that feeling of family. It was when she got older & met Alonzo that the feeling was restored. Her trust was given . . . & true love was introduced. The love from her family was always there, but to receive it from an outside figure, with nothing to gain, made it genuine. The love he showed her made her feel comfort, made her feel protected, made her feel whole. Plus . . . receiving the approval of her father & her sister made her decision feel even more right. But Rain would always wonder if her remaining family members would have been as approving if they knew what Alonzo did to make ends meet. If they knew that the same life that took Jacori from them was the same life that Alonzo was dedicated to. A bit of contradiction on Rain’s behalf-or maybe not. Maybe her love for him made her not give a fuck. She saw Alonzo for the man he was-not the way he made his money. Sometimes . . . love can make you go against your strongest convictions. Her heart once again had a reason to beat . . . & it was Alonzo who was the pulse.

As they continued their drive home, Rain realizes they needed a few things for the house. The closest store was located on Stanley Av.-the block where Alonzo first got his start as a hustler. The name of the store was Esposito’s. It was ran by a Spanish family who knew Alonzo & Samont since they were kids. He & Samont would go there & get free bags of potato chips & candy because the owner (who went by the name Eduardo a.k.a Ed-O) knew their father Noel. When he pulled up in front of Esposito’s, he noticed a gathering posted up in front of it. A small group of young faced thugs who now populate & deal hand to hand drugs on his old block. Alonzo remembers when these cats would get dollars from him-now they considered themselves major. They were called Da 8pes. The name was suppose to familiarize them with guerilla warfare. Gun packers with cold hearts.

    Da 8pes

The Leader: B.I- Given that name because he was all about business. You rarely seen him smile, & you never seen him laugh. A 26 year old, 255lb body of attitude. Quick to slap a motherfucker. Disagreements led to dismemberments. A nigga with nothing to lose-not to be fucked with.

The Stick-Up Kid: Linx- He was on some ‘88 shit. Snatching chains off of niggas because he knew he could. Not only would he rob niggas, but he would wear their chains in the hood. No one would seek revenge because of the niggaz he rolled with-not to mention he wasn’t afraid to buss his gun. 22 years old & not afraid to die.

Hitman #1: Sev- A 19 year old murderer who caught his first body when he was seven. His Pops came home drunk one night & started beating on his mother. It would have been just like any other night, except this night Sev found his father’s gun. As his father stood over his mother shouting profanities, Sev blew his father’s brains out at point blank range from behind. When his father dropped to the floor he emptied the revolver in his back . . . with no emotion. The police seen it as a young boy protecting his mother. Sev was never charged-but never being charged just made him a smarter killer. Besides . . . if he could kill his father, he could kill anybody.

Hitman #2: Slugs- The name speaks for itself. It didn’t have to be New Year’s for this dude to let off a few. His fascination with guns was stronger than his fascination for women. When he was young, his uncle gave him a dog-& he named it Bullet . . . he had it bad since then. Now at the age of 24-it’s even worse.

Money Man: Stacks- He was good with numbers. He made sure all money matters were straight. Da 8pes would never pay more than they should for anything-that included everything from cocaine to sneakers. He would keep a thousand dollars & better on him each day of the week. At the age of 30 he knew the purpose of a penny was to make a dollar. Da 8pes kept him protected because they were protecting their money.

The Fighter: Cinco- The only Puerto Rican in this crew. His father was a well respected Golden Gloves fighter. The heart & passion his father fought with was passed on to Cinco-but Cinco didn’t use it for professional reasons. His father’s teachings only enhanced Cinco’s street credibility. He was given the name Cinco because he was never scared to go 5 minutes in the street. Through the discipline of his father, he has a focus that is unmatched by anyone in Da 8pes. He is very mature for a 25 year old.

Hustler #1: Smoke- A 20 year old pot-head whose motivation came from his next blunt. He stayed fucking up money, so all the money he made for himself went right back into the re-up. Which really didn’t matter to him-as long as he had doe for his next high. It’s fucked up when you hustle to support a habit.

Hustler #2: Post- A 20 year old who was the complete opposite of Smoke. He also had a love for weed, but his motivation came from the game, itself. What made him such a solid, more reliable hustler was the fact that he had the qualities of the seven cats before him. He was serious, not afraid to rob or kill a motherfucker, loved guns & money, & jumped at the chance to fight. His only flaw was his temper. A hustler who wears his heart on his sleeve becomes predictable. There was only one question with Post. When would he decide that his qualities could ultimately make him the leader of this crew-& how long before B.I kills him?

Before stepping out of the car Alonzo checks with Rain to see if there is anything extra to get from out of the store. After receiving the extras Alonzo steps out & makes his way toward the store. He’s greeted by B.I (wearing a black leather jacket, black jeans, & construction Timb’s) & Cinco (wearing a fatigue army jacket, matching hat, black jeans, & black Timb’s) with a respectful, but sarcastic greeting. What up Zo?, said B.I with a devilish smirk. Ain’t shit, responded Alonzo. Cinco greets him in his native tongue-Que pasa, Alzito? Nada Papa, said Alonzo. He walks into the store which resembled your average bodega. He walks straight to the back of the store where the paper towels & 2 liter sodas were located. The store was occupied by Eduardo & his daughter Carlita.

As he made his way to the front of the store with a can of roach spray in his right hand, & a roll of paper towels under his right arm, he spots Sev. Sev (wearing a wool Patriots jacket, blue denims, & a pair of royal blue & white Air Jordan 12’s) is at the counter exchanging words with Eduardo as Carlita looks on. Yo Papi-you should let me marry your daughter, man. She wouldn’t need nothing, yo-I mean NOTHING, said Sev. "I don’t need nothing now, said Carlita. Before Sev could respond, he feels Alonzo’s presence on his left side. Pardon me, Alonzo says in a melodic tone to Sev. As he puts his items on the counter Carlita’s face lights up with a childish grin. Sev looks on with an obvious description of jealousy. He looks at Alonzo from head to toe-almost like he’s sizing him up. Alonzo’s head slightly turns in the direction of Sev. He can read his facial expression as clearly as the front page of the New York Post. Although Alonzo graduated from the staring game years ago, he was not about to be intimidated by this young, up & coming hustler. Yo, shorty-I owe you something?, Alonzo asked in a stern voice. Nah, yo, responded Sev. So why you elevator watching me?, Alonzo asked in a more stern fashion. Before Sev could respond, Carlita gives Alonzo his total for his items. $5.79, she said in a flirtatious manner. With his eyes still fixated on Sev, he digs in his left front pocket & pulls out a wad of money folded in half, & neatly organized. 20’s led to 10’s, 10’s led to 5’s, & 5’s led to singles. As he takes a five & a single from his stack, he turns & places it on the counter. Eduardo looks on with appreciation- that someone finally stood up to this young hoodlum. Ed-O . . . always a pleasure, baby. Looks like life is good, Alonzo says in a more friendly tone. As good as God makes it, Papa, said Eduardo. Carlita . . . stay away from these nickel & dime, knuckle head ass niggas, Alonzo said with his eyes on Sev. Si Papi", responded Carlita.

Alonzo makes his way out of the store, & to his car. He puts the bag in the backseat of the car behind Rain. As he closes the back door, Rain notices Sev coming out of the store to chat with Cinco & B.I. Alonzo gets in the car, closes the door, & starts the car up with a chuckle. It’s some funny niggaz out here, Alonzo says. As they pull off- B.I, Cinco, & Sev look on with envy.

Cinco: Yo . . . Papi look like he’s getting it, man.

B.I: Fuck that nigga, man. He could get done just like any other nigga.

    Sev: "He’s gonna get done".

    Cinco: What happened, yo?

Sev: This nigga up in the store just now acting like something sweet, yo. Like I’m some pussy ass nigga or something, man. Point blank . . . I’m gonna do that nigga, son. That’s my word- on the real, for real".

B.I: He tried to front on you?

Sev: Word to everything I know, love, & stand for.

B.I: Say no more. Yo Cinco

    Cinco: Que?

B.I: Call Slugs, Post, Linx, Smoke, & Stacks. Tell em’ its time to connect for wreck. Do it now.

Meanwhile Alonzo & Rain pull up to their apartment complex. A very decent part of Brooklyn called Starrett City. Each building comes complete with a doorman to greet you as you enter. Considered a community within itself-you had to have big doe to get up in there. This was the gift of comfortable living that Alonzo gave to Rain. They park in their designated area. Alonzo turns the car off, grabs the bag from the back, & they both exit the car. As he closes the door, Rain looks to him & asks, "Why did that young boy follow you out of the store-what was that about?

Alonzo: That was a young punk trying to establish himself. No more-no less. Don’t worry that.

Rain: That’s just it. He’s young . . . & you know that every young boy got something to prove out here. He’s trying to get where you are, & who’s to say what he won’t do to get there.

Alonzo: Listen-don’t stress small things . . . & everything is a small thing. Besides . . . we made an agreement not to bring that part of life to this part. Let’s not argue about this. I respect & appreciate your concern, baby-but I’ll be okay.

Rain: "You better be. Because I’m not trying to live one day, hour, minute, or second without you. You fuck with me you stuck with me.

Alonzo: How can I be stuck somewhere when I can’t see myself anywhere else?

They share an endearing kiss, give each other a warm smile, & make their way towards their building. As they walk a light drizzle of rain begins to fall. Alonzo puts his left arm around her shoulder, & they begin a slow jog.

The number on the building (323) was located on the right side of the door leading to the lobby. As they entered the hi-rise building they are greeted by the doorman. A young Latin man named Richard. He wears the regular doorman attire- black blazer, white shirt, gray slacks, & black shoes. He & Alonzo have a short chat regarding sports while Rain checks their mailbox. She pulls out four envelopes. Three were utility bills, the other was a letter from an upstate correctional facility. She makes her way to the elevator which is Alonzo’s signal to end the conversation. He bids the doorman a goodnight with a firm handshake, then walks in the direction of Rain. He gives her a hug from behind, & places a kiss on the back of her neck. That brings a smile to her face.

The elevator arrives. They step to the side to let an elder neighbor get off before they get on. When they step in, Alonzo presses their floor (12), & backs up against the wall. He lets out a gainful sigh as to almost describe his relief to be home. Rain taps him on his chest with the letter that is obviously for him. What’s this?, Alonzo asks. If I’m not mistaken it’s a letter from your brother, responded Rain while thumbing through the bills.

They reach their floor, exit the elevator, & make their way toward their apartment. Alonzo unlocks the door, & Rain enters first. She flicks the light switch which is located on the right side of the door. The light only illuminates half of the apartment-the hallway, mostly. Along the hallway wall leading to the back of the apartment are framed portraits of famous female singers (Aretha Franklin, Phyllis Hyman, Patti Labelle, Ella Fitzgerald, & Billie Holiday). This eclectic collection represented both triumph & tragedy. A few steps away from the door was the entrance to the living room which was still dark. As Rain walks into the middle of the dark room she reaches up to the ceiling-& with two fingers she grips a chain that is connected to a light, which is connected to a ceiling fan. With one pull of the chain she gives light to the living room. Now the majority of the apartment is lit with the exception of the kitchen & the two back rooms. The living room is decorated with a chocolate three piece living room set that sat on a wooden floor- a tan & brown floor rug sat upon the floor. A 55 inch television, fully equipped stereo system, matching brown book shelf, CD, & DVD racks add to the atmosphere.

Alonzo enters the living room, throws his jacket on the sofa, flops on the love seat, & begins to read the letter he received. Rain goes into the kitchen & turns the light on. She puts away the items Alonzo purchased at the store. Yo . . . Samont is touching down, baby, he yells into the kitchen. Well-that’s a good thing, right?, Rain asks. "Yeah-that’s a very good thing. I definitely have to get him situated once he touch down. Make sure he got some doe, a place to rest-ya know?, Alonzo says with a grin. Rain didn’t respond. Instead she walks to the back of the apartment to the main bedroom. There she turns the light on from a lamp in the corner of the room. The lamp fully lights the room exposing a cherry wood bedroom set. A 37 inch color television, a king sized bed draped with a burgundy comforter, & a beige & red floor rug complete the look of the room. The other room was basically the computer room. Decorated with a black futon bed, small 25 inch television, black treadmill, & a computer stand with a basic desktop computer. She sits on the bed, removes her shoes, & gives her right foot a rub. She then rises from the bed & stands in front of the dresser which has a circular mirror that took up a decent portion of the wall. As she stood there staring at herself in the mirror she hears Alonzo’s voice yell from the living room. Babe-I’m going to the car. I’ll be right back", he says. Without further explanation Alonzo leaves the apartment. Rain (with a baffled look on her face) wondered what it was that he had to leave for. She walks into the living room & sees his jacket is still there-so she knows that he’s not going far.

To prevent herself from worrying she goes into the kitchen to start their dinner. She opens the refrigerator door & takes out a plate that was occupied by two seasoned chicken cutlets. She puts the plate on the counter & then digs into a bag of potatoes which is located on the floor of the kitchen. She then goes to the cabinet where the pots & pans are & pulls out a clear glass pot. She fills it with cold water, places it on the stove, & lights a fire under it so the water could boil. She places the potatoes in the pot, & proceeds to unbutton her blouse. She then starts to make her way back to the bedroom in which she just left. Although she tried-she couldn’t help but to worry. She wouldn’t be fully satisfied until Alonzo was back in the apartment.

Thirteen minutes later Alonzo returns. He walks back into the living room, lifts the front of his T-shirt, & pulls out his 40 caliber handgun-he left it in the car. He throws it on the sofa, walks to the kitchen, & stops in his tracks. He sees the love of his life standing at the stove. Her leopard printed bra & thongs complimented the physique it occupied. He stood there & watched her grace from one side of the kitchen to the other. It was almost like he was watching her for the very first time. As she adjusted the flame under the pot, she notices Alonzo watching her. She raises back to her normal posture, & gives her hips a twitch that makes her booty shake like a girl from a hip-hop video. Alonzo laughs, then makes his way back to the living room. There he skims through his DVD collection. Rain considered Alonzo a torn soul. Anything dealing with good had to have an evil counterpart as far as he was concerned. His collection consisted of comedies & thrillers. But his all-time favorite movie (which he had in the versions of VHS tape, DVD, & paperback novel) was The Exorcist. His infatuation with that movie was almost scary to his woman.

She overhears him fumbling with the DVD player. She peeks into the living room & sees him inserting his favorite movie. He has a look of anticipation on his face as if he never seen the movie before.

Rain: What is it about that movie you love so much? A little girl gets possessed by the Devil, acts crazy, then gets an exorcism. What’s the big deal?

Alonzo: Actually, baby-it’s not a movie about a possessed little girl. I mean her story is just the cornerstone of the movie. The movie is actually about Father Karras, & the lost of his faith. A priest losing his faith is like a boxer with broken wrists. Everyone was so focused on the little girl’s behavior that Father Karras’ trials & tribulations were overlooked.

Rain: So that’s why you love that movie so much?

Alonzo: It’s a good movie. Plus-did you know that a persons belief in possession makes them a prime candidate to become possessed? Which leads to the issue of having faith.

Rain: Well-all my faith is with God.

Alonzo: As it should be-but what about your belief in possession? Do you believe in Satan-or ghosts for that matter?

Rain: I’ve never seen a ghost or Satan-so I can’t say that they exist.

Alonzo: That’s a contradiction. You put your faith in God-yet you’ve never seen him.

Rain: What the fuck? What are you . . . the Anti-Christ disguising himself as the love of my life?

Alonzo: C’mon, baby. I see things for what they are. I’m aware of Satan’s greatest trick, so therefore I believe in him-the same way I believe in God.

    Rain: Do you love him?

    Alonzo: Who, Satan?

    Rain: Yeah.

Alonzo: (being sarcastic) Doesn’t God love him?

    Rain: Why you say that?

Alonzo: God loves all his creations-good or evil.

Rain: You know what?-this conversation is over.

Alonzo: What? You asked me a question & I answered it.

Rain: I mean . . . you just scare me with that stuff, man. I’m waiting to wake up one day & see you looking like that girl. Put that shit away & help me in here.

Alonzo: (joking around) Why you curse so fucking much?

He follows her into the kitchen & stands behind her. He gently grabs her hand, & pulls her toward him. They gaze into each others eyes before engaging in a kiss. The passion becomes more intense as the kiss prolongs. Their tongues move to a choreographed rhythm only they understand. He presses her up against the counter with an uncontrollable passion. He licks her neck with a slow stroke that brings a moan from her trembling body. She licks her lips & waits to see what it is her lover is going to do next. He slides the left side of her bra down-exposing her breast. He builds up a nice amount of saliva in his mouth before going to work on her nipple. She watches every move with bedroom eyes. He firmly grips her breast, & takes it in his mouth. Her nipple stiffens up as he gently nibbles on it. Goddamn-you’re making my pussy so fucking wet, she says with a devilish grin. It was at that moment that he dropped to a squatted position where his face was equivalent to her dripping pussy. He pulled her secreted soaked thongs down to her ankles. He looks at her shaved vagina, & licks his lips. He grabs her ankles & makes a slight gesture with his head to make her spread her legs. He sticks out his wet tongue & gives her pulsating twat a swift lick. Her hands grip the edge of the counter as the licks become more concurrent. Each lick is accompanied by a semi-loud slurp. Her pussy juices slide down the left side of his mouth. He spreads her pussy lips-exposing her impressive sized clit. He feverishly licks on her clit with swift, continuous strokes. She grabs the back of his head & begins to grind her pussy in his face. Just like that, baby. Make ya bitch cum, she said in a sluttish way. Her demand was met with gratitude. He continued to suck & slurp on that clit, & her body continued to tremble. The heat from the stove gave the kitchen a significant warmth. Alonzo takes a brief break from pleasing Rain to take off his shirt. His well cut physique (which was labeled with tattoos) glistened with lustful sweat. Rain’s intensity rose two notches from the sight of his body. Assuming his previous position, Alonzo proceeds with his oral episode with the mindset of finishing the job he started. Rain makes an attempt to grab the back of his head,
