I was gifted this print in exchange for an honest review and loved Genna and Brody's story. Genna Reilly is the daughter of the sheriff. Her life has been dictated and set in tone from the "right friends to the right job", but she puts her foot down and takes the dare of her three friends to kiss Brody Lane, the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks. At seventeen she tries to seduce him but Brody knows that her dad is mean and her brother is meaner and she's off limits beside she's jail bait. But Genna is hard to resist.I was gifted this print in exchange for an honest review and loved Genna and Brody's story. Genna Reilly is the daughter of the sheriff. Good book. Blake is a SEAL who is very good at what he does. When a mission ends badly he and his team are ordered to take leave. Blake prefers to be busy, so the time with nothing to do gives him too much time to think and remember the loss of his friend. When he meets Alexia on the beach, they immediately connect. They don't exchange much in the way of personal information, but their other exchanges are smoking hot.Alexia has come back to California for a research job. It also puts her closer to her family, including her by-the-book admiral father. They barely speak, and when they do it's usually to argue. Alexia has a mind of her own and her father's controlling attitude always rubs her wrong. She is also very big on communication, and growing up there was very little of that going on. She swears she will never get involved with a military man because of it. When she meets Blake, she doesn't know that he's a SEAL, and not just any SEAL, but one of her father's proteges. She finds out when her father tries to set them up. She's furious, thinking that Blake had purposely hidden who and what he was, and ends things right there.Fast forward eight months. She hasn't been able to forget him, and Blake is constantly thinking about her. Then he gets tagged for a special rescue mission, only to discover that it's Alexia that has been captured by a terrorist. The rescue mission and its aftermath are eyeopeners for both of them. I loved Alexia's conversation with her mother about life as a military wife - so true. And Blake learns how the support of someone you love can make you stronger, not weaker. The ending with the dinner at her parents' house was terrific. My only complaint with the book was the constant referring to the SEALs as soldiers. They are not. Soldiers are in the army. SEALs are sailors, first and foremost, just as Marines are Marines. Both get a bit testy when you call them soldiers.

First book in the uniformly hot series by Tawny Weber about a SEAL that has come home to deal with the death of a comrade in arms on his last mission. Lt Landon Blake comes home to deal with the pain and spots a sexy redhead on the beach that he'd like to spend time with to forget. Alexis Lane wants nothing to do with military people because of her general father and leave Landon when she finds out he's a SEAL. When Alexis is kidnapped, Landon is sent in to rescue her. Can their love survive? If you love hot men in uniform then you'll have to read the story to find out. I really enjoyed the story. ( )

It just wasn't get up and grab you stuff. I really don't like the whole steal the boss's daughter type of plot though, so my review might be unfair from the get go. I probably should have just passed, but I was really looking for a hot man in uniform, man's man protagonist for a romance. He doesn't spend much time in uniform :) Poor pick on my part. But very contrived story. I never end up caring about either of the characters.

Originally posted on Tales to Tide You Over (from April 2013)It’s been a while since I read a Blaze, I guess, because the level of sex has certainly gotten higher (or I don’t remember how high it used to be), but that doesn’t change the reason I enjoy this imprint: for the emotional intensity and emotional honesty. That’s a bit ironic for this title in specific because those two elements make up its main theme.Alexia thinks commonality isn’t enough without a sexual connection. Then she’s faced with so powerful a desire that she ignores everything to sate it. Blake is happy to oblige, needing distance from the gut-wrenching loss of his teammate and friend, something we learn when the book begins with a funeral — an odd choice but one that works because of how it influences what follows.Things get hot and heavy right after the funeral, making me wonder if this book had more in common with the sex focus of erotica, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Sure, there’s a lot of sex. They can’t keep their hands, or minds, off each other. But there’s equally, if not more, time spent on the questions of trust, hope, and the willingness to accept that some things are worth grabbing hold of with both hands and savoring in the now rather than letting fear of what might happen remove all chance of joy.I picked this up as a Try Harlequin teaser, and I do wish it had gone through another edit pass because of a couple of small continuity glitches that reflect poorly on the line, but if you’re willing to focus on the story and what the characters have to learn and share, this is a wonderful story. It even provides insight into the military mindset and why some people choose both to serve and to accept the life of a military spouse. With minor edits, the above is exactly what I wrote over a year ago. I don’t know if they’ve since fixed the continuity issues I mentioned in this title, but from my choice to read a number of Blaze titles, mostly by Tawny Weber, since, that’s a small quibble, especially because I have not found similar editing issues with the newer titles. She’s a solid writer and well on her way to becoming one of my favorites within her genre.

The daughter of a Navy Admiral, Alexia Pierce, has sworn never to become involved with anyone in the military. Navy SEAL Lieutenant Blake Landon is grieving the loss of a teammate and isn’t interested in a relationship. Neither of these facts can stop the intense chemistry and steamy passion that sizzles between them.

The delightful characters and engaging premise make this a must read despite the inaccuracies in military jargon and protocol.

Alexia and Blake’s romance grabs you from their start. Their chemistry is off the charts and their banter is sexy and fun, but there is also a more serious and emotional component to their connection. Moreover, they demonstrate the extent to which highly intelligent and capable individuals can be blind to the truth that is right in front of them. Thankfully, their idiocy is short-lived and even somewhat cute, and their angst ultimately heightens the tension toward the end.

The minor action plot isn’t exactly the most thrilling, but is does add an element of excitement and adventure that compliments the romance.

All in all, an entertaining way to spend a few hours and I’m eager to continue with this steamy series.
