About this ebook
She's the vampire that could destroy a nation.
At least, that's what Pinkerton detective Finn Dunne thinks of Tara Fox. Capturing her aboard a ship sneaking its way northward, he's convinced she's been sent to take out President Lincoln. While she's certainly the most attractive assassin he's ever faced, that won't keep him from his duty.
Tara has always been caught between worlds. As a vampire born and raised in Key West, she has many friends among the humans. Many friends that are now fighting and dying in the raging Civil War.
When her strange dreams began, she thought of them as abstract visions. But she now knows that she must travel to Washington, D.C., and protect the president at all costs. Finn still won't trust her, despite what he's seen. And if Tara has to go through him or bring reinforcements to save Lincoln, she will do whatever it takes, even if it costs her her heart.

Well, this one is rather boring and middling.
There is no proper suspense part in this book. There is an assumption that something mysterious and potentially dangerous happens but it’s mostly just some ethereal feeling in the background. Prostitutes are found murdered to add to the thrill but it really doesn’t because they are not related to the events in the Kelly’s pub. There are also some gossips and general feeling of something bad being organized but it’s not enough to make worry about the heroine.
And, to be totally honest, it’s not easy to worry about Moira, since it’s so hard to get attached to her. She is paper-thin unfortunately. There is nothing really interesting or distinctive about her. Her indecisiveness regarding her love life drive me mad.
Then we have Danny, oh boy! He is a serious asshole. He thinks he loves Moira but they can’t be together because they won’t be happy (I can totally understand that, beside the passion, there is nothing between them). Still, he does everything in his power to destroy Moira’s happy relationship with Michael. A dog in the manger to say at least. Okay, so Michael turns out to be a murderer but up to the last few pages we can only presume that and, let's be honest, there are no evidence of that. Danny’s actions are highly annoying. In my opinion Danny is just Moira's obsession, a lover she can’t forget, but the one she has to come over to find happiness with someone else. I really don’t think they would be happy together, despite the epilogue.
Well, I hate love triangles and here we obviously have one. And I’m sorry to say that this is the only plot-line that is even a bit developed, the suspense being minor and insignificant. As a result, the whole book is rather dull and boring. With so many books out there it’s not worth your time. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It's nice when romance authors do research, but sometimes I'm left with the feeling that they think that they must use it all in a single book. That happens here. Great characters, good plot, then - we keep getting sermons and history lessons. I agree with the author's views on the Irish situation, but I was looking for entertainment, not a seminar.
