Give it 2.5 stars (really would like half stars.)
I really wanted to like it, but it was ok/good. It felt forced, like something shoved into a box way too small for it. The characters didn't come across as completely developed. Maybe I would've liked the best friend given more time and information, as it is she's just pushy and annoying. The heroine, Mel, hasn't been out on a date in a while. So the blind date she goes on and they have a hotel room reserved before they even meet?
Due to the potential I felt from this I'll probably try the next book in the series as it is longer.

Carrie Ann Ryan has made a fan for life out of me.

This short paranormal story has a hunky Alpha wolf hero and a geeky heroine, who has to decide what she really wants (like it should be that hard...come on...lol) and of course the HEA or is it?

Melanie hasn't let her hair down, pretty much ever, and now after her friends ruthless pressure she'd said yes and is heading out to a blind date. Anxious and nervous she contemplates rationality of her decision.

Kade agreed to a blind date only to escape his Pack for a night, expecting to meet a cute girl and have a nice evening he's thoroughly shocked when he smell his mate in the restaurant, deciding to do the right thing regardless he walks to his date - only to discover that it's her, his mate.

Doing the stupidest thing possible to über-logical Melanie he confesses he's a werewolf and shape shift in front of her after a night of hot sex - only to find out she won't take nicely to it and walks out. And now someone else is sniffing around her as well, and the Pack Law promises blood will be shed.

I truly enjoyed this novella! I loved the whole aspect of a blind date bringing werewolf to his mate, and I loved when he freaks the crap out of her. Melanie was so conservative and prober that when something so out of the normal happened she flat out froze and refused to deal with it - of course that is where I started to get angry with her, a good story always brings out strong emotions in a reader. I wanted nothing more than to see her with Kade, letting go of some of that hard-headed logic.

Kade, oh he was good! I loved how he blurted out he was a werewolf and got laughed at, and I echo his brother's Jasper's statement of "Are you kidding me?" no one should drop that bombshell of a first date! I liked how Kade was already wounded, having to have fought over a girl he had though might have been his mate, and now he had to face the fact that he might have to fight for Melanie as well. He was kind though, considerate and sexy but very much set on waiting for Melanie to come to him - giving her the choice to choose him, instead of forcing her to be his mate. I liked it, but it was frustrating! Strong emotions again.

This story was quickly read, An Alpha's Path was satisfying, romantic, entertaining, had action and threat! A great shifter story! I'd definitely read more on the series!

The cover is great, I loved the darkness and the moodiness which went perfect with the feel of the story, plus look at those abs, yum! The cover pulls you in, the blurb hooks you and the story keeps you reading!

AN ALPHA'S PATH

Melanie Cross knew nothing of the world beyond her books and thought that was all she needed. When she finds herself on a blind date with a shifter who says she’s his mate, she finds out otherwise.

Kade Jamenson knows one day he will be the Alpha of the Redwood Pack but first, he must find his mate. Somehow fate has put her in his path in the most unlikely of ways, but when another tries to block them before they can complete the mating bond, he’ll stop at nothing to keep Melanie safe.

As temptation burns bright, two of them must overcome what they thought were differences and fight for something more than a mere night: fate.

The thundering in Melanie Cross’s ears increased as her breath became shallow, annoying her to no end. Palms sweaty, she bit her lip and nervously tapped her foot, taking in her surroundings and trying not to pass out. The lobby looked like a palace with tall, cream-colored pillars and chocolate molding. The numerous pillars surrounded the opulent sitting area making her feel a bit small. Gorgeous light fixtures with tear drop crystals hung from the walls and the ceiling giving the room a soft glow. She figured they were meant to be warm and inviting. But she didn’t want to feel invited. She wanted to leave. Run away and never look back.

What was she thinking? Melanie was a smart, hardworking person. A freshly printed PhD in Nuclear Chemistry and a painstakingly long, nine-hundred page, leather-bound thesis sat on her desk, proved she didn’t back down from things that were hard. She could accomplish anything she set her mind to on her own. Her ideas were acclaimed and her work was referenced numerous times in tens of papers. More would be sure to come. Any job her heart desired was now hers for the asking. Because of this she was about to bypass the normal post-doc route of working underneath yet another professor. Now she would be an Associate Professor with her own research group at an Ivy League University.

All of that hard work and yet here she was, alone in a scary place that she sure as hell didn’t fit in.

She gained a few close friends over the years, and even though she didn’t have an overly active social life—okay she didn’t have one to speak of—she thought her life was just peachy.

Yet her friends thought with all of the accomplishments in her educational career she was still uptight. Some even said she was missing her ideal husband. But her closest friend Larissa decided she just needed to get laid.

Mel thought back to when her best friend first told her this crazy idea.

Really Melanie, when was the last time you got laid? First year? Even earlier? It’s ridiculous. You are practically a born-again virgin. Larissa laughed softly at her own joke before sliding a business card across her newly cleared lab bench.

"What’s this? A name printed on the card, Jamenson Services, stared back at her. You’re sending me to a gigolo?" She gasped and tried to throw the card away before Larissa quickly swiped it from her hands.

No. The Jamensons are contractors. The man who owns it is an acquaintance of mine. Melanie wasn’t sure but she thought Larissa wanted to say more about that, but seemed to hold it back. He built the new green house at my parent’s place. Come on, you need a date and so does he. He’s been looking to date more and I think you two would really hit it off. It’s only for one evening and sex isn’t required. But honestly, the way those Jamenson boys are built, you’ll be dropping your panties at his command. Larissa lifted one eyebrow and laughed again.

"Oh I don’t think so. I’m not that desperate. It’s just that I’ve been so focused
