    Meet the Authors:

    Barbara Bettis:

Award-winning author Barbara Bettis has always loved history and English. As a college freshman, she considered becoming an archeologist until she realized there likely would be bugs and snakes involved. And math. Through careers as a reporter, editor and, later, a college journalism and English professor, she’s retained her fascination with history—ancient Egypt and Greece, medieval England and Scotland, the Napoleonic period. Give her a research book and a cup of tea, and she’s happy for hours. But what really makes her smile is working on a new story. She now lives in Missouri, where by day she’s a mild-mannered English teacher and by night she spins tales of heroines to die for—and heroes to live for.

    Collette Cameron:

Bestselling, award-winning author, Collette Cameron, has a BS in Liberal Studies and a Master's in Teaching. Author of the Castle Brides Series. Highland Heather Romancing a Scot Series, and Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper Series, Collette writes Regency and Scottish historicals and makes her home in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and five mini-dachshunds. Mother to three and a self-proclaimed Cadbury Chocolate chocoholic, Collette loves a good joke, inspirational quotes, flowers, trivia, and all things shabby chic and cobalt blue. You'll always find dogs, birds, quirky—sometimes naughty—humor, and a dash of inspiration in her novels. Her motto for life? You can’t have too much chocolate, too many hugs, too many flowers, or books. She’s thinking about adding shoes to that list.

    Beppie Harrison:

Beppie Harrison has been lucky enough to live in some interesting places. She started out in Hawaii, where she spent her childhood, then her family moved to California, and later she worked in publishing in New York and London. She married an English architect, and they remained in London for ten years and have spent considerable time in Ireland in the years since. They’ve had four children: two were home-grown, one adopted from Thailand and another from Chile. Beppie’s first published books were nonfiction. She has since realized her love is historical romance, and with her blossoming fascination for all the complications of Ireland her books are placed there. The first three books compose The Heart Trilogy. She is now beginning a second, related trilogy, Hearts Everlasting. She and her husband, now the children have flown, live in Michigan with two over-indulged cats. The children claim they were not.

    Lane McFarland:

Bestselling author Lane McFarland loves history and has planned books spanning the early Middle Ages through the American Civil War. While her books are fiction, each one is based around historical facts, and you will often see known figures such as William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, or The Red Comyn make guest appearances. All her books revolve around human struggles, sacrifices survivors are forced to make, and their resilience to live and thrive. Her current series, THE DAUGHTERS OF ALASTAIR MACDOUGALL, is set in late thirteenth century Scotland. She has published the first three books of the series and the last book, ELSBETH, will be released in July 2015. Lane is a southern girl living on top of a mountain in North Georgia, and is most happy when surrounded by family and friends. If she’s not writing, you can find her hiking with her husband, or fiddling around in her flower and vegetable gardens, feeding the birds and watching black bears and deer. During the day, Lane works as an accountant selling financial software, but her nights are devoted to writing of spirited heroines, to-die-for-heroes, and the romantic love stories between them.

    Mairi Norris:

Màiri Norris is a USN vet who lives in Virginia with her USCG retiree husband and three cats, though her heart belongs to the Highlands of Scotland. She loves to read, travel, and make dollhouse miniatures when she's not busy writing. Màiri made up stories in her mind from childhood. Her mother taught her to read at age six, when she discovered a whole new universe to explore through books. She is a proud member of Romance Writers of America, Celtic Hearts Romance Writers, Hearts Through History Romance Writers, Chesapeake Romance Writers, Beau Monde and Clan Donald, USA.

    Cate Parke:

Cate Parke is a writer of historical romance and a member of Romancing the Eras Authors, Celtic Rose Writers, and Celtic Writers’ Circle. She has been an avid reader all her life and always loved to write, but didn’t begin writing seriously until ten years ago. In her day job, she is a registered nurse who practiced pediatric nursing her entire career. She is also the wife of a retired U.S. Navy Officer and lived and travelled with him for the twenty-six years of his career. With him she has visited England, Canada, Mexico and all but four of the United States. Thanks to him, she’s dipped her toes into every body of water that washes America’s shores, including the Gulfs of Mexico and California and even the Arctic Ocean. She has travelled over, under and on both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. After many journeys across this great nation and back again, she now lives, loves, and writes among the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in lovely Northeast Tennessee.

    Regan Walker:

Bestselling author Regan Walker loved to write stories as a child, particularly those about adventure-loving girls, but by the time she got to college more serious pursuits were encouraged. One of her professors suggested a career in law, and she took that path. Years of serving clients in private practice and several stints in high levels of government gave her a love of international travel and a feel for the demands of the Crown. Hence her romance novels often involve a demanding sovereign who taps his subjects for special assignments. The Agents of the Crown trilogy and prequel, TO TAME THE WIND, have enchanted readers. And now she has out a new Medieval Warriors series with THE RED WOLF’S PRIZE. Each of her novels features real history and real historic figures. And, of course, adventure and love. Regan lives in San Diego with her golden retriever, Link, who she says inspires her every day to relax and smell the roses.

    CAMERON

Book I of The Daughters Of Alastair MacDougall

    by Lane McFarland

    Excerpt

A mug of hot cider warmed Cameron’s hands as she sat before her hearth. Red and gold flames danced around the logs, the heat on her face comforting. She tugged a wrap around her shoulders. It had been a week since she last saw Laird Graham. Oh, she had nonchalantly inquired about him, but she refused to tend his leg. Not that anyone asked.

After his unreasonable response, she’d avoided him. She should have let him suffer, go untreated and risk losing his life. He was an ungrateful, perverse wretch.

Maybe so, but she missed him.

She rubbed her forehead. Her self-inflicted confinement began to take a toll, not to mention she had to get out-of-doors if she held any hope of escape. She had organized and reorganized the herbs in her basket, read the one book she had until she could recite it, and continued to stare longingly out her small window.

I’ve got to come up with a plan to get home, she whispered.

A knock on the door startled her, and she jumped. Aye, come in.

Good evening, a cheerful voice called out.

Cameron set her mug on the table. Oh, Nichola, it’s good to see ye.

Nichola wore her hair piled on her head. Blonde tendrils escaped and framed her face, and her soft blue dress matched her eyes. I stopped by to see if ye’d come down for the evening meal. Will ye join me?

Cameron was hungry, and she longed for company, but she didn’t relish the thought of Robert’s scrutiny, his searing eyes watching her
