- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I got this book directly from the publisher and it is very hard to do a review on it. It is more of a workbook of sorts and it is very short with only sixty-four pages. There are different exercises and mental games that you can play. A lot of fill-in-the-blank, true/false, and choose the best answer. I found the historical references fascinating. From the title, Vacation Sex, it really would not have to be used when you are on vacation. I was laughing so hard at some of the quizzes that use slang words for different sexual acts. I highly recommend this book and plan on keeping mine to add to my permanent library.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow!!! Did I learn a lot in the sexy, adult trivia game book. I would recommend this book to every couple. It would work on a ski vacation, beach vacation, even the days and nights leading up to Valentine's Day.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This is a cute, quirky, little book but not really what I was expecting. It took me a long time to write this review because it was Not at all what I was expecting & although I can find a couple of redeeming qualities for it overall it was difficult recommend it. I was actually looking forward to this book because I am very open minded & love to learn new things.Based solely on the title I thought this book was something to take on vacation to perhaps give you ideas to enhance your vacation time sexually. As it turned out it was more of a fun fact & game/puzzle book about silly (and for the most part useless) sexual topics. There were things like the different slang used for the genitalia, anus, & oral sex. Celebrity quizzes about asses, breasts & sex toys. Cartoon sex drawings to 'find the differences', dot to dot of 'erotic parts', fill in the blanks and the like. Things like artist is associated with which nude painting, and believe it or not guessing what the 'dirty lyrics' of a rap song mean??? It reminded me of a 'sex version' of a kid's activity book you buy to keep them busy for a few minutes and it was about the same size; 64 pages, with very little content on each. For the most part I think the book might be considered trite & juvenile for anyone who has any real sexual knowledge even a little bit of maturity. It felt like something you might find in a college freshman dorm or an adult novelty party where silly Q & A were played to pass the time. The only other situation I might see it being useful (although I could recommend a lot better options than this) would be for a young couple who were uncomfortable talking about sex who might find it useful to use this as a fun/silly way to ease into the conversation. Now on the flip side I do think the authors may have had a good intention but unfortunately the execution fell short. There are a lot of sexually uneducated adults out there would benefit from a book that made it fun to learn useful information. Unfortunately this is not that book.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This little book--64 pages--is a lighthearted look at sexuality. Under the conceit of a 6-week vacation--enough to give away that it was originally a French book--it provides quizzes and games to enjoy with one's significant other to learn about sex. Each week's quizzes cover things like the language (literature / vocabulary / slang for the deed and anatomy, ...), history, art history, math, science, and biography of sex. Assorted "Fun Time" activities include connect the dots, and spot the difference pictures. Each week has a theme ranging from Lovers' Bodies, The Kama Sutra on Vacation, Making Love with Your Mouth, The Back Is as Good as the Front, Toys, to Erotic Fantasies. The book does seem to have a slight sexist bias toward the male, although it's difficult to put my finger on exactly why but Sara felt exactly the same about it. It also assumes a heterosexual couple. The book seems to belong to the "Dare ..." series although the CIP data does not mention it. "Dare..." is on the cover but not as part of the title and at the back of the book is a list of some more titles in the series:Dare... to Have Anal SexDare... to Have Sex Everywhere but in BedDare... to Try BisexualityDare... to Try BondageDare... to Try Kama Sutra.Perhaps by now there are even more titles, some of which may overcome the biases inherent in this one.If you are looking for a little lighthearted fun and games in the arena of sex trivia, especially heterosexual sex, then this book may well be for you.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Received an Early Reviewer copy of this book from LT and breezed through it this afternoon (it's quite short). Although I enjoyed most all of it, I would definitely consider it a "mixed review". Some of the information - such as the basic anatomy pieces - is quite trivial (pun intended) and probably below most readers. However, parts of this book are really great. In particular, I enjoyed all of the references to classic literature and film and even picked up a couple of additional books as a result. Also, most all of the trivia was great...interesting and obscure - just as trivia should be!All in all, a good read and a conditional "buy" recommendation.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a fun and quirky book to sit down with your significant other (so long as you are a heterosexual couple). It is definitely geared towards this kind of relationship, which was great for me. A lot of cute and fun little exercises, and thank goodness for the answer key in the back, otherwise I would have been completely lost on some of them. I learned a lot of sex trivia and my boyfriend and I had fun exploring the quizzes and activities. All in all, a interesting and fun little gag gift or vacation companion!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5May I just use one word to describe this book? No? Well, if I could it would simply be "FUN!"For sheer reason as to why this is a "FUN!" book is two things: It's trivia and it's about SEX!I also like this a lot of it can be considered smart trivia that stems from literature and literary smut. Also, this book knows it is written for adults who do not blush at the mere mention of sex. This is for couple who enjoy sex and all of its symbolism and are more than happy and willing to share such insight with their partner. It's fun. It really is.It is also a very short book. But, this works for its purpose of catering toward horny couples romancing in the bedroom. So please, get the batteries, get the lotions, and get in the mood (oh, and don't forget your colored pencils) and have some sex already with a side of "eff-you-en!" trivia.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I initially had a problem with the title trying to figure out if this was a "Vacation Sex" ... "Quiz Book" but after receiving it figured out it was a "Vacation" ... "Sex Quiz Book." I.e., this book is a quiz book about sex that you're supposed to read while on vacation, and not a book quizzing you about the sex you had while you were on vacation.Anyway. This is the kind of book that if I saw someone owned it, I'd probably make fun of them (for owning it). Which means it's a light, mildly amusing, curious little ditty of a vacation read. The cover has a cartoonized female in a bikini, laying on the beach, reading this paperback, and that's probably where it would best be enjoyed. The cover isn't lurid, by any means, but the title is pretty clear so I'd expect if I DID read this on the beach I might be approached by people seeing me read this who think I'm interested in having sex with them (and given that I'm an overweight, 52 year old white guy, that might be pretty cool!)Subtitle is "55 Mental Quickies" which are all little trivia exercises, with all answers in the back. Consider the "Science: About Sperm" quiz which has three questions concerning the chemical composition of the stuff, how much (quantity) is produced in a single ejaculation, and the average number of spermatozoids in said quantity. No answers for you (get the book)!Other quizzes test your knowledge of slang terms from the US television series, Sex in the City, to the sexual characteristics of "Great Men" (a matching game of famous men and their characteristics. E.g., Guy de Maupassant, Attila the Hun, the Marquis de sade ... "He died a virgin" ; "His marble penis has become a cult object" ; "He adored making love in a bathtub filled with wine.").You will learn things from this book such as it is illegal to buy dildos in Alabama, and Jean Harlow used to rub her nips with ice before press conferences. You will likely not be too offended because I figure those who would get offended are unlikely to buy this book in the first place. It's a pretty straightforward hetero oriented work. Anyway, it's a fun little summer diversion, a clever little ditty, cheap entertainment, and generally prurient in a "Sex in the City" kind of way.
