An artist whose paintings reflect her African heritage, she was born in Chiefland, Florida, and attended school there. She has received the John F. Kennedy Special Arts Program award and others from the Art Coalition of Gainesville, the Waldo Arts Festival, and the Department of Cultural and Nature Operations.

    CHIEFLAND

    Melton and Floretta Adams lived in Adamsville, which was named after Melton Adams’s father, William Bill Adams. William Adams contributed a lot to the community. Mrs. Adams belonged to the Heroines of Jericho; she was the secretary of the organization.

    This is the home of Mr. and Mrs. Adams, located two miles outside of Chiefland. They owned many acres of land in Adamsville; the land has been passed down for four generations.

    This is a picture of Adamsville’s church; it is over 100 years old. The pulpit still stands. The church has wooden windows with latches. Even though the years have taken their toll, the church still holds many memories.

    The Adamsville cemetery is very old; the older generation and their families still use the cemetery to bury their love ones. The cemetery is still being cared for by the Christian people of
