About this ebook

Although BOSCO does not have a neck, or a nose, and has long flapping ears, an antenna surrounded by six little curls on top of his head, and eight eyes situated around his noggin, his appearance is extremely pleasant to the people on planet Earth, and his smile, his extraordinary talents, and his human-like sensitivities endear him to everyone he meets.

Bosco was sent to Earth, by the Board of Directors that govern the Moon, to confer with the President of the United States and other powerful dignitaries throughout the planet concerning the Moon’s security. The Lunarians were worried that Earth’s exploration in space would eventually cause trouble for them. Nevertheless, while Bosco is returning to the Moon after successfully completing his mission, he unwittingly loses control of his ship, the SPHYR-BALL, and must make an unscheduled landing in Cahoon Hollow, a small town in Massachusetts. CORA DeHAAS, a clever and spirited twelve-year-old girl, accidentally sees BOSCO, and after a series of humorous incidents she and BOSCO meet and become friends. Cora's father, Dr. DeHaas, is a brilliant scientist who has concocted a miracle drug that would forever rid the world of the COMMON COLD; however, when it's discovered that it has a unique side affect so devastating that in the wrong hands could enslave humanity, the doctor becomes a target for a criminal organization led by the notorious madman, Rolando Pomfrey. Dr. DeHaas, en route to Europe to confer with colleagues concerning the drug, is abducted by Rolando Pomfrey and his thugs; they feel that with the doctor’s formula solely in their possession they could conquer the world.

    Prologue

The story that follows is a fantasy about a lovable ROBOT called BOSCO: Bosco is from the MOON and is known as a LUNARIAN. He is one of thousands of such robots constructed in the INTERIOR of the moon, which was made hollow millions of years ago by the LUNARIANS.

BOSCO, with the spectacular talents of a LUNARIAN, and Cora DeHaas, using her intelligence and extraordinary physical agility, join forces and after several comical as well as dramatic

    events apprehend the criminals.

    Chapter One

After spending most of the afternoon playing with some of her friends, Cora DeHaas met her parents and the three of them went to have dinner at a fashionable restaurant in Boston, Massachusetts. Ordinarily, dining with her parents in a restaurant, fashionable or not, was a real treat for Cora and she always looked forward to it. However, on this particular occasion the atmosphere during dinner was somewhat subdued because Cora's father, Dr. DeHaas, a renowned scientist, was leaving for Europe on a Top- Secret Mission and would be gone a long time. So the mood at dinner that evening was rather somber. And it was in that same solemn frame of mind that after dinner Cora and her mother drove the doctor to the Logan Airport in Boston to see him off and to wish him a pleasant trip.

Dr. DeHaas, aware that he would be gone for quite some time, was naturally concerned about his family, but he wasn’t overly worried about them. He knew, although Cora was only twelve years old, that she was clever and could look after herself. Also, he didn’t have any doubt that his wife, being an intelligent woman, would know how to take care of herself as well. So after kissing his wife and daughter good-bye, the doctor left them in the waiting area and went to board his plane.

Cora and her mother watched Dr. DeHaas' plane taxi down the runway and take off, and continued to stare at it until it became a speck in the sky and disappeared. Only then did they leave the airport and joylessly drive home.

The ride from the Logan Airport in Boston to their charming home in Cahoon Hollow, which not only overlooked the ocean but an attractive yacht club as well, didn't take very long and after having a cup of hot chocolate and exchanging a few loving words about Dr. DeHaas, both Cora and her mother went to bed.

While Cora was in bed reading she thought she saw something zip by her window. I must be seeing things! she said to herself, but without giving it a second thought she closed the book, placed it carefully under her pillow, and put out the light. However, as Cora was about to turn over and go to sleep, she again saw something zoom by her window. This time, certain that it wasn't her imagination, she jumped out of bed and ran to the window and the eyeful she got when she got there dazzled her: She saw a huge white ball, twice the size of an elephant, moving silently through the air. Cora rubbed her eyes in disbelief. Maybe I'm asleep and dreaming, she said to herself. However, she realized she wasn't dreaming when she saw the giant white ball streak by again, not five feet from her window.
