INTRODUCTION
Despite the fact that I had an untraditional childhood—on the mission field in Peru, South America—as a young boy, I spent countless hours imagining that I had the supernatural strength and speed of many of the well-known superheroes of my day. Mighty Mouse and Under Dog were two of my favorite cartoons. I loved it when they would surprisingly defeat the oversized enemies they faced. Frequently I would find some random scrap of clothing or material that passed as a cape and wore it with pride—since all the superheroes I knew had one, I was convinced that with my cape on, there wasn’t anything I couldn’t do! My very favorite superhero was Superman, of course. Although, when my younger brother and I played together, Batman was a great second choice. I remember that Superman was always my preference because he could fly and seemed to have the greatest super powers.
As I grew up, I remained fascinated with super-heroes. Not only would I find myself daydreaming daily about being one, I even dreamed about it at night. Perhaps, like me, you’ve had dreams where you were able to fly and woke up terribly disappointed that you couldn’t in real life. Whether male or female, I believe we were all innately wired to want access to supernatural power in the midst of our mundane lives, if that desire hasn’t been repressed somewhere along the way.
Appropriately enough, even as a young boy, David became my favorite Bible character. The more I read the various stories of his life as a shepherd who killed the giant Goliath and as a king with his Mighty Men by his side who defeated the enemies of Israel—the more I realized he was quite a superhero himself. Because I thought David’s ability to use a sling must be the key to his super powers, I loved carrying around a slingshot myself.
As I continued to study David’s life, I learned that he was much more than an expert marksman. This guy could leap over walls effortlessly, run through entire army troops without being killed, and literally outrun and kill lions and bears with his bare hands when they went after his sheep. This simply fascinated me—and honestly, still does!
This fascination waned a bit through my later years, but even as a young man, I had an underlying desire that always bubbled just below the surface. I knew I was made to be a superhero and to use my God-given superpowers to rescue people and make the world a better place. When I would read about David’s Mighty Men and their amazing feats of strength and valor, I often wondered why we couldn’t do those things too.
Now, as a grown man, I find myself still drawn to David and the supernatural things of God. I’ve had the privilege of witnessing many, many miraculous signs and wonders and remarkable healing of all kinds. This led me to pursue a deeper understanding of David and how he, as an ordinary man, was able to shift into accessing this kind of spiritual inheritance. As I’ve studied his life, I’ve discovered new insights and secrets to the source of his supernatural abilities. These insights have been life changing for me, and I believe they will be for you, as well.
David wasn’t just a man who God randomly chose to bless with superhero capabilities. As we journey through aspects of David’s life, we’ll find a young man who most certainly grew up under tremendous rejection and insignificance. He was born as more of a survivor than an achiever, and yet somehow he was able to transition into becoming the historic giant-slaying hero that he’s known as today. I believe the life choices he made and the processes of God that he embraced show us how we too can step into the fullness of the supernatural inheritance that’s available for all of us. There’s a potential superhero longing to be released in every one of us. I believe the things that hold us back, are the same things that held David back. Therefore, the key of David’s breakthrough is the same key for us today—truly we can all shift from our normal civilian status into the Superman or Superwoman we were created to be.
The purpose of this pocket guide is to help you navigate through your own life battles into your victorious destiny of Becoming a Superhero. As we identify the processes David went through, you’ll awaken to the invitation of God’s heart for you to be all you were meant to be. You’ll discover the strategy and understanding of how to access the supernatural life you instinctively know you were meant to live. The truth is, creation all around you is waiting for you, much like Superman, to step into that phone booth, take off those ordinary clothes, and save the day! Why not you? Why not now?!
For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons and daughters of God.
Romans 8:19

DAVID WAS THE FIRST REAL SUPERMAN
"For by You I can run against a troop;
By my God I can leap over a wall."
2 Samuel 22:30
If we’re going to become superheroes, it’s important we understand that David was the first real Superman. He wasn’t just a tough scrapper that things went well for. He wasn’t just a kid who got lucky with his sling. David had actually accessed real-life, supernatural strength. As the above verse informs us, he was a man who could run through a whole troop and was capable of leaping over a wall. This wasn’t just inspirational talk, but a literal reality for David. There were things in his life journey that he
