Toshikazu Kase was a Japanese civil servant and spent his adult life as a career diplomat, having trained at Amherst and Harvard university Kase was part of Japanese delegation sent onboard the USS Missouri to sign the Japanese surrender to end World War II. This is a fascinating history of that period as seen from the Japanese perspective. Kase went on to become Japan's first delegate to the United Nations.
