A modern girl's guide to seducing Mr. Darcy
When Ella Briley asked her lucky-in-love friends to set her up for an office party, she was expecting a blind date. Instead, she's pulled through a magic mirror and into the past…straight into the arms of her very own Mr. Darcy.
Patrick Meadowfair, earl of Fairhaven, is too noble for his own good. To save a female friend from what is sure to be a loveless marriage, he's agreed to whisk her off to wed the man she truly wants. But all goes awry when Patrick mistakes Ella for the would-be bride and kidnaps her instead.
Centuries away from everything she knows, Ella's finally found a man who heats her blood and leaves her breathless. Too bad he's such a perfect gentleman. Yet the reluctant rake may just find this modern girl far too tempting for even the noblest of men to resist…

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I received a ARC copy in exchange for a honest review. Thanks to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity.Summary Ella, is about to have everything she has ever wanted. She is a comic artist and her first book is about to be released, and just before she is about to go to the gala, she goes to meet her date, only to find herself facing a mirror and ends up in the 1800’s England and finds herself being kidnapped by Patrick St. John. Patrick made a promise to his closest friend, Amelia, to go along with her scheme, so that she can marry the man she loves. Patrick has no one except his cousin and a estate and his title. He would do anything for his childhood friend and that she could be happy with her vicar. But he finds that in his arms is the wrong woman, an innocent woman with strange clothing and purple hair. Then he finds that Amelia’s father is after him, a woman who needs his help from the future, and his friend Amelia lost and he needs to find her. Things couldn’t get any worse right? Well Patrick finds himself falling in love with a woman who is not destined for him, a woman who needs to go back to her own time, and his future looking bleaker, unless Ella and Patrick can find a way to be part of both of their worlds and still be together….The Hero Patrick, is the Earl of Meadowfair, he respected and revered his father, who taught him the meaning of duty and responsibility to his title. If he doesn’t have an heir, the title will go to no one, and he made a vow to his father that he would make sure the title would continue no matter the cost. For Patrick honor and integrity is everything to him. When he makes a promise he sees it through. He is true to his word. Patrick was such a lovely hero, he is honest and good, I admired him so much and you see what a strong character he is, willing to sacrifice his own happiness for those he loves so that they can have their own happy ending. The Heroine Ella is quite the quirky and independent heroine. She is on track for the career she has always wanted, but her love life is a bit weak, never had a successful date in her life, her family and friends going in opposite direction than from her, and she feels more alone than ever. When she finds herself in 1800 England, all she can focus is getting back, even though she could see herself being truly happy with the man she loves. I liked Ella for the most part, but I felt a bit annoyed by her at times. She wants to return back to the future even though she really has nothing there for her except a book of hers to be published, yet she has everything she could have dreamed, people who care and love her in the past, you see how torn she is and that tends to affect her relationship with Patrick. But I enjoyed her spunk and sass, she says exactly what she thinks even in moments where she doesn’t know what she wants.Plot and Story Line I have read quite a few time travel romances, and this one was quite different from any others I have ever had the opportunity to read. Even though its the third book, and in the beginning I felt a bit disoriented, I was able to catch on quickly, this is the third book in the series, and I think I would have wished to read the previous two books, so I could have some more background information. What I enjoyed was seeing a quirky smart girl go back in time where life is very different. What I loved about reading Kiss The Earl was seeing the differences and the author has a great way of making those subtle yet obvious to the reader. You see the difference in style and dress, manners and way of speech and just the culture. For example, right before Ella goes back through time she is about to go to a gala, and dresses accordingly, nothing too scandalous though. But when she goes back in time, anyone that sees her in a dress a little above the knees and wearing tights and heels….well lets just say they assume she is a doxy….quite hilarious at moments. Because Ella is so far from being a doxy. What I also enjoyed was how Patrick treats Ella, he is very loyal and sweet and even though he is driven to obeying his word of honor, you see how he treats others, and the way he is willing to give up everything for those he loves. I love the bantering between Patrick and Ella, and Kiss The Earl was a lighthearted and fun flirty romance that kept me in tune with the story from page one. Definitely going to need to read the first two books, because I am hooked now.The Cover Alrighty….who wouldn’t love this cover? Because quite frankly its one of my favorites of all time. I love the wet shirt look…and all that toned muscle and that background….just makes me want to jump right into the cover and kiss that Earl myself. If I had him I wouldn’t want to return to this time. He is sexy as sin right?Overall View Kiss The Earl is a fun and sweet time travel romance that is engaging and tender. A powerful story of a destined love and two people who are in need of each other, romance at its best here. ENTERTAINING!!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Kiss the Earl is the third installment in Gina Lamm's delightfully clever Geek Girls series. In this outing, sweet Mrs. Knightbridge is matchmaking again and this time she sends unsuspecting Ella Briley back in time where she meets and falls in love with Patrick St. John, the Earl of Meadowfair. It is another fun adventure that old and new fans are sure to love.
Ella is a comic book artist who needs a date to a swank party to celebrate her new job when Mrs. Knightbridge once again decides to do a little matchmaking. Ella stumbles smack dab in the middle a fake kidnapping scheme concocted by Patrick and his closest gal pal Amelia Brownstone. Ella and Patrick are forced to go on the run to escape Amelia's irate father. When Ella falls ill, Patrick whisks her away to his estate where the situation between them grows even more complicated after they are discovered in a compromising position.
Ella is a self-reliant woman and she refuses to give up her independence when she travels back in time. She is witty with a sarcastic sense of humor and despite being in a different era, she does not censor her thoughts or alter her manner of speaking.
Patrick is a gentleman through and through. He is a genuinely nice man who is extremely loyal to his friends. This is one of his best qualities, but when it comes to Amelia, he is willing to sacrifice his happiness for hers.
Despite the change in their relationship, neither Ella nor Patrick can see how a future between them is possible. Ella does not want to give up her career and Patrick has responsibilities that he is unable to walk away from. However, their biggest issue is Patrick's promise to help Amelia. He sees no way to gracefully extricate himself from their harebrained scheme until he discovers that Ella's well-meaning interference puts her in a very precarious situation.
Kiss the Earl is a charming addition to the Geek Girls series. Gina Lamm manages to keep the series fresh with another unique and diverse storyline that is just as captivating as earlier works. But it is the very creative and surprising solution to the obstacle standing in the way of Ella and Patrick's happily ever after that makes their romance stand out from the previous two novels.
