About this ebook
In 1818, after his studies in Italy, Dion Solomos returns to his hometown Zante. In 1821, the Greek Revolution breaks out. In the English occupied Zante, which was very close to the Greek shores and was shaken daily by the sound of the cannonades, Dions gets inspired by the Greek struggle and writes the Hymn to Liberty.
The novel follows Dion in Italy, Zante and Corfu and describes his struggle to compose poetry in the Greek language, which he did not speak or write. Moreover, the romantic artist balances between his human weaknesses and his battle to achieve originality and reach High Art.
