Andy Johnston was raised on a farm in West Virginia. While growing up, he sat watch for a moonshine operation for a nickel a day. He quit school to join the Army. After three-plus years in the Pacific theater, he went back to school and ended up with a Ph.D. After 40 years of teaching elementary school, high school and at the university level, he retired to travel and vegetate.
