God determines that the world needs rules, and He decides to “speak” from a mountain. But which mountain should it be? Mount Carmel is beautiful, Mount Hermon has three peaks, Mount Tabor is majestic, and Mount Gilboa has flower-filled meadows. According to the Midrash Rabbah (Bereshit 99:1), God chooses “little” Mount Sinai because its unassuming and humble bearing is deemed the perfect spot. Hall’s vibrant color illustrations give each mountain a distinct “personality.”
