    Chapter 1

Debbie parked in front of the looming mansion and grabbed her nine millimeter from the glove box. She tucked in her shirt and smoothed the logo, Chase Security then headed to the door. Mr. Bernstein had been one of the few men to accept her, a woman, as a personal bodyguard. Four years of previous service as an air force security specialist wasn't enough to convince most men that she knew what she was doing. But Mr. Bernstein always took her seriously and she appreciated that more than she let anyone know.

She hadn't been to his estate since she inherited Chase Security from her father six months ago. Bernstein had requested to see her specifically. His paranoia had escalated since the Occupy Movement's splinter group Greed Bleed had formed and allegedly kidnapped, tortured and killed three wealthy individuals from the Los Angeles area alone.

In the foyer she spoke into the intercom announcing her arrival and waited quietly under the cathedral ceiling. Several minutes passed and not a sound. She tried the intercom again.
