Another great book in this series! I love it when a book keeps my heart pounding and holding my breath until I turn the page to see what happens. Someimes I can't read the words fast enough to see what will happen. This book had alot of intrigue, suspense, and romance.Mark Sanders is on the FBI Hostage Rescue Team, but because of a fatal shooting he has been given a field assignment in St. Louis. As he is out jogging he "runs into" Emily Lawson, a "summer love", that he hasn't seen for 20 years. Emily has lost her husband, a firefighter, in the line of duty. She isn't sure she wants to become interested in another man with a "dangerous" job. As they are talking in the park a bullet whizzes past them and Mark immediately steps into action to protect Emily, who does get hit. In the first chapter of this book the action immediately begins. The shooting at the park is a really intense scene. It had me hooked from there. The problem is, who was the shooter aiming for, Mark or Emily. I won't spoil it for you, but you will enjoy reading the book and finding that out for yourself. Mark and Emily are so obviously made for each other, but they both have a hard time admitting it to themselves. I also liked Mark's partner, Coop (who is the main character in book 1), and his take on their relationship. This was just an all-around good book to read.

Mark Sanders is sent to St. Louis to work as a field agent and to help him recover from a robbery gone bad in which he shoots an innocent young man by accident. While jogging in the park he notices a pretty female. As he looks closer he realizes that it's Emily Lawson. Twenty years ago he and Emily had a crush on one another and shared a first kiss. She can't believe it when he tells her who he is. As they stand chatting with each other shots ring out! Mark throws Emily to the ground. After observing where the shots are coming from he checks Emily. She's been hit and is losing blood quickly. Will they be able to get to the hospital in time? Were the shots meant for him? Who is shooting at them and will they try again? Will Emily and Mark get a chance to re-acquaint themselves with a long ago friendship? An Eye for an Eye is Book 2 in the Hero's of Quantico Series and an excellent read. The story keeps you engaged from the first page to the last. The dialog is crisp and realistic. I found that the emotions of Mark, Emily and the shooter all rang true. I thoroughly enjoy the romantic element in the book too. I loved that Coop (from Against All Odds) played a major role. I highly recommend this book and can't wait for Book 3.

I'd recommend this story for romance lovers who enjoy a good chase. I didn't find it particularly suspenseful, though. Maybe because I knew the characters were going to persist and I felt secure with them fighting for the safety of the targeted person. If that was the author's intention, it worked.

I've read other books by this author and liked them well enough to look for her earlier books. The technology is a bit dated (the agents use blackberrys). The plot is very similar to the first book in the series. This book features Coop's partner Mark Sanders. Apparently some time has passed since the events of the first book. Coop and Monica are now married and she's pregnant. Mark's been injured, rehabbed, and shipped off to St. Louis to do a bit more recovering before he rejoins the HRT.WARNING: SPOILERS MAY FOLLOW. READ ON AT YOUR OWN DISCRETIONThe plot attempts to circumvent the "knowing each other for only a short time before getting married" that is common in the romance genre by having Emily and Mark being each other's first romances. Since that time, Emily married a firefighter and lost him to a work related fatality, which makes her reluctant to love again, let alone love someone with a high-risk job. It's a bit sad that it takes a life or death situation to make Emily face her fears about relationships.
