Just when Bianca has resigned herself to being lonely forever, she meets Lucas – an outcast like Bianca, even if he’s way too hot to possibly be interested in her. Lucas is on a mission to uncover the secret behind Evernight Academy – but he has his own secrets, and so does Bianca. I have read so many different reviews of this series, but it has been on my to read list for awhile now, so I knew that no matter what I was going to be reading it. When I first picked up Evernight, I had trouble sticking with it, as a mater of fact; I ended up putting it down around chapter 5 and reading another book. I picked it up almost a month later and once I started reading I finally got into it and couldn't put it down.
As I wouldn't read reviews with spoilers, I wasn't privy to what was really going on. I knew that there were vampires in the book, but to what extent and exactly who were vampires I wasn't sure.
I had my suspicions, and let's just say that I was totally wrong in my thinking!!
I love the story between Bianca and Lucas, but i would have loved to have seen more drama between them and hottie Balthazar; maybe in the next book we will get it.

Hopefully we get more info on the Black Cross and get to see more action than the first book, Stargazer is next on the list and will be started tonight:)

I enjoyed the book and that Claudia Gray kind of made a twist to the story, but there really are some HUGE plot holes in this book. So here is where I had issues with the book.. Overall it was a decent book. Its short and I read in about a day. If you like vampires and are looking for something a little bit different as far as who is the vampire I'd totally recommend it.

    ***SPOILERS****
Basically 50% through the book we suddenly find out that Bianca is a vampire and that Evernight is a school for vampires... Yup it took halfway through the book to suddenly find out this big secret. It was just an odd way to have a book pop this on you. Mind you I love twists, but I honestly spent the first half of the book thinking Lucas was a vampire not Bianca. And then we find out that Lucas is part of a vampire hunter group Black Cross. It seemed like the book lead up to this and then went like "Oh heyyy I forgot to tell you these details!"

Anyways its a different vampire book considering that the vampire isn't a dude for once.

This book is definitely a very typical vampire/human star crossed lovers story. Evernight Academy is a special school for vampires to learn to keep up with the times. This year is Bianca's first year. Additionally several human students have been allowed in this year. Drama ensues when a vampire and human fall for each other. I wont really say anything else because that would ruin the few plot twists that there are.

There is however one thing that really stood out from the rest of the book and that is when vampires discuss their human lives. These historical scenes are full of emotion and offer insights into the characters. Unfortunately it only happened twice.

Please note: Read in August, 2008 from a copy provided by Amazon Vine in exchange for an honest review.Genre: Urban FantasyReading Level: Young AdultMy Synopsis: Bianca has lived her entire 16 years in a small town - Arrowhead - until her parents take jobs as teachers at prestigious Evernight Academy. Evernight is populated by students who are mostly beautiful, and all rich. Bianca, being terminally shy, has a difficult time fitting in with this crowd and becomes friends with several of the new students, who also are outsiders.A twist about half-way through causes Bianca to realize more about herself than she really wanted to know. In love with Lucas Ross, she is forced to confront her beliefs in the world as she has been taught. My Thoughts: This is a terrifically fun read, and one I could recommend most strongly. It is written to be accessible to the junior high to high school crowd, and will be probably most loved by those who consider themselves to be "outsiders" - the shy and the lonely. That should not deter you from reading this very well-written book by a new author who I hope to see more from.

At first i thought this book was going to end up like all those other YA books with star-crossed lovers, boarding school, and vampires. But it didn't completely follow what happens in those plots of other books. And i liked the main twist of story setup. I'm not going to say what it is, but it was nice.

I liked this book (3.5/5) but it could have been even better if it the shocking revelation in the middle of the book (if you read the book you know what I'm talking about) had been disclosed in a different way...

    ***WARNING: SPOILER!!!!!***

The idea of keeping the detail of Bianca's true nature secret isn't a bad one per se, but I think the author kept it hanging for too long creating a whole storyline (mostly revolving around Bianca's insecurities and self-doubts) that, after that turning point, doesn't make any sense. Bianca's attidute regarding Evernight strongly clash with the reality of her situation: after all she is a vampire (she had known since she was a baby) and she is going to a school where vampires are the norm instead of attending one in where she's the only vampire among humans...so why she's felling like an outcast now and not then?? I understand she's still different from them (born and not made) but at least now she have people who share her secret...shouldn't that be an improvement?!

Lucas' revelation however was disclosed quite well: during the book there are various hints about his strange home-life (and his attitude at times was highly suspicious) but we find out about his real motives to attend Evernight only in the end and still it's all perfectly coherent with his character (unlike Bianca's case).

From the supporting characters Vic & Balthazar are, by far, my favourites and I hope they'll make an appearence in the next book...

Evernight by Claudia Gray has once again reaffirmed my realization that I am not a fan of vampire romances. It opens as a fairly typical Gothic boarding school horror, with a new girl moving to the school and being a complete fish out of water. The students are richer and are aggressively cliquish. As this is also a romance, there's of course, the mysterious, potentially dangerous, bad-boy. In a chance meeting before the school year starts, the girl (Bianca) and the boy (Lucas) meet and seem to have a connection. Except later, Lucas is cold to her and later is possessive of her — basically a soon to be abusive boyfriend.Their dysfunctional relationship is played against the background of long, boring descriptions of Bianca's class schedule. I know, she's a teenager and she's at a boarding school — there's just not that much to talk about. That doesn't mean though, that I want to read 100 pages of her going to class. I just don't.But what really did me in on this book — and the series as a whole — was Biaca's status as an unreliable narrator. As everything is told in first person, the fact that she neglects to tell some key facts about herself until she can no longer control her urges was just too much.As soon as she finally drops that key piece of information, the whole conceit of the book falls apart. She does belong at the school and it's Lucas who doesn't. The main problem, though, is that the school doesn't make sense. Sure, many of these students have been in teenage bodies for decades, if not centuries, but why oh why do they willingly subject themselves to boarding school?

This book was amazing. From the first page it held my attention and I couldn't stop reading it until the end. Now I'm going crazy, waiting get my hands on the second book. As I am a sucker for forbidden romance this book was perfect. Bianca and Lucas's relationships is so beautiful and I love how they love each other even when they should hate each other.
I cannot wait to read read more about them in the second book.

It is probably inevitable that any teen vampire romance published at this particular moment will invite comparisons (favorable or otherwise) to the wildly popular Twilight saga. I think however, that Claudia Gray's Evernight owes more to L.J. Smith's Nightworld series (one of my guilty pleasures), than to Meyer's work. Smith's endorsement, moreover, can be found on the back cover, and convinced me to give this a try.The story of Bianca, a shy young woman who finds herself a student at the sinister Evernight Academy, where her parents have been hired as teachers, Evernight utilizes all the stereotypical indicators of "danger!" to set up a very conventional plot-line. It is most unfortunate that I read one of the "spoiler reviews" shortly before reaching the point at which Gray overturns her carefully orchestrated narrative crescendo, but I can honestly say that her "shocker" would otherwise have come as a complete surprise. It's quite well done, and will have the reader looking back over the first half of the novel, recasting everything in light of new information. I know that some readers found Gray's inversion unconvincing, but I thought that all of Bianca's feelings and reactions could just as easily be set at the door of some garden-variety teen angst, and therefore had no trouble making the mental leap.I WAS able to anticipate the second major revelation, partly owing to a newfound caution in reading Gray's text, and partly to my familiarity with the aforementioned L.J. Smith, whose work also features supernatural "Romeo and Juliet" type stories. Despite that fact, I found Evernight quite suspenseful, and very satisfying.Star-crossed lovers? Check! Supernatural, folkloric beings? Check! Lots of teen angst? Check! Engaging and complex characters? Check! What's not to love? I'm ready for the sequel...

Evernight is a creepy boarding school. This is the story of Bianca and Lucas, two new students at the school.

    *****SPOILER ALERT******

Vampire stories are all the rage, but what I haven't read until this book, was one written from the perspective of the vampire. What happens when a vampire and a vampire hunter fall in love? Lots of drama for sure.

    I was left wanting more...

Too little, too late. That's the theme here.

I'd begun to suspect this wasn't a paranormal book when we finally had the revelation of Evernight's status as a vampire school with the popular crowd all being bloodsuckers including Bianca. Why so late with this information? What was the author trying to achieve by holding it back for so long?

Anyway, it made me reconsider my opinion of Balthazar, a centuries old vampire who was pursuing a 16-year old. Besides this I quite liked his character, he was certainly more deserving of Bianca's attention than Lucas, who was also older than first represented (almost 20).

Lucas was all over the place. The number of lies he told, even when he'd established the strange bond with Bianca, he was still 'off'. His loyalties were divided, his sense of honour is skewed because of this so he isn't very likeable.

Bianca was doing all the apologising for lying to him when he should've been doing some begging -he was obviously using Bianca, taking advantage of her vulnerability to discover vampire secrets. He just didn't care for her as much as she cared for him.

I may read the sequel but I have little hope it will be any better. I just want to know more about Black Cross, and whether they'll find out Bianca's true nature and the fallout from that.

Boarding school can be a nightmare, especially when you parents teach there. There are other problems, friends are hard to find and quirky at the very least, and vampires. Rich students from all around the world mix with "normal" scholarship students, not so well. Bianca falls in love, gets involved with the wrong crowd, and lies to her best friend. There is twist I never saw coming !! A fun fast read, very enjoyable YA. I am on to the second and third book.

Okay, so this was awesome. As a general rule, I avoid vampire lit like the plague. I mean, Ann Rice is pretty cool because thus far I haven't read a book of hers that has that whole human/vampire love dynamic, which I hate.

Seriously, think about it -- human and vampire fall in love, vampire bites human, and they are stuck together until the end of the earth. I'm sorry, no matter how much I love somebody I would never commit to living for several centuries with them. You know why? Because people change and grow emotionally -- as would (hypothetically) vampires. Ideals and values change, and they don't always change in tandem. And in most vampire lit there's some sort of blood bond between vampires of the same . . . bite?

Then there's the other scenario in human/vamp love -- the vamp loves the human so much that they don't bite them, and you end up with two ways to go. One, human and vamp live together in harmony (rare) -- how dumb is that? An eternally young being being in a physical relationship with an 80-year old? You have got to be kidding me.

Scenario two, the human and the vamp go their separate ways, filled with forever love and regret. Sorry, again dumb. Vampires can live for as long as the earth exists -- longer, if space travel becomes commonplace and we do find other planets (ooooh, spaceman vampires!). Humans live an extremely finite period of time. So maybe the human will live a life of regret for their one lost true love, but the vampire will forget in less than a century -- two centuries if the human was exceptional.

Sorry, most vampire lit is retarded.

That said, despite my high disdain of vampire lit in general, this book was incredibly well-conceived and well-executed. The author writes in a beautiful and engaging manner, the characterizations are beautiful and the relations between everyone are perfectly written. This is a gem in the offal known as vampire lit. (I'm looking at you, Twilight).

I wanted to like Evernight more than I did. It's an okay story that seems to be riding the 'Twilight' train. The story is simple and, for me, read roughly. Idea's seemed to come from left field and connection were made in ways that made you stop and think, 'Did the author know she was going to to do this when she wrote the first part?'.

Not a fan, but it was a decent book that could help you survive a rainy morning.

EVERNIGHT starts out as a fish-out-of-water story. Bianca's parents have sent her, for her own good, to Evernight Academy - an elite New England boarding school complete with an imposing faux-Gothic campus and privileged student body. Her parents think Bianca is too shy, too withdrawn, and they hope the competitive and glamorous world of Evernight will shake things up and force Bianca out of her cocoon.

Her parents are right, at least to a point. The other students are world-travelers, sophisticated, used to incredible luxury. Bianca is a small-town girl, inexperienced and naive, and it's a challenge for her to adapt to all this change, let alone fit in. She finds allies among the other mifits, the assorted students who don't quite fit the Evernight "type", especially a handsome, angry young man named Lucas.

Pretty soon, there are two big questions in the novel: One, does Bianca really want to fit in at Evernight - even if she could? And two, what's behind Lucas' strange behavior - why is he so aggressive and overprotective?

I really liked EVERNIGHT, but I had a couple of pretty serious problems with it. One is that the author saves a big revelation for halfway through the book, when she should have let the cat out of the bag in the beginning - because it's Bianca, the first person narrator, who's been keeping secrets. After the reveal, all of Bianca's narration includes constant reference to the knowledge she's had all along, which makes her previous silence feel especially false.

My other problem was with Lucas. Bianca falls hard and fast for him, thinks it's true love, yada yada. But Lucas picks fights, he tries to isolate Bianca socially and to monitor her physically, and he follows her around - one of Bianca's best friends even warns her that he's an abusive boyfriend waiting to happen. I would have been more willing to buy into their volatile, on-again-off-again relationship if it hadn't been for Boy Number Two: Balthazar, who's thoughtful and courteous and, yeah, super handsome. I never understood why Bianca stuck with angry Lucas when someone so much better was waiting in line.

That being said, I'll definitely pick up the sequel when it appears. The revelations about what life at Evernight is really like - and I'll give you a hint, vampires are involved - and Bianca's very unique place there are interesting, and as much as I dislike Lucas I do love a tortured love triangle. Bianca's close relationship with her parents is one of the strongest parts of the novel and I look forward to seeing how they grow and change as a family.

I'd recommend EVERNIGHT to readers who like Stephanie Meyer, P.C. Cast, or Richelle Mead.

I decided to give this book a try since it kept popping up on various reading lists. While it had a few strengths, I don't plan on continuing the series.

First, the positives. Bianca, our main character, has a generally strong relationship with her parents. Considering the ridiculously high amount of main characters who are orphans or have terrible parents in YA PNR, I was pleased to see Bianca's parents were usually presented as basically good people who loved their daughter, even if Bianca didn't always agree with what they were doing.

The concept of the novel also had some potential, which is that Bianca is the new student of the mysterious and creepy Evernight academy. Unfortunately, this leads into one of the weaknesses of the novel, which is Bianca herself.

As a protagonist, Bianca is largely undeveloped and forgettable. Whether she is human or not is never directly explained in the novel--she apparently drinks animal blood, yet does not have the supernatural abilities of other vampires (though we, as the reader, are never told what these abilities include, other than enhanced senses). Bianca sometimes refers to herself as a human, other times a vampire, which gets downright confusing. Bianca is also, to put it bluntly, pretty empty-headed. As the reader, we are privy to Bianca's thoughts, yet she very rarely has any to share! The second half of the novel consists of Bianca learning that the supposed love of her life, Lucas, has betrayed her, abandoning her family to run away with him, only to return to her loved ones when they believe she was kidnapped. These are all emotionally-charged events, yet Bianca almost never stops to reflect on what's taking place or how she feels about it. Most of what we get is a description of the action--boom, boom, boom. Part of me also wondered if Lucas wouldn't have been a better main character, since his background is much more fleshed out than Bianca's.

This brings me to my last complaint about the novel, which I felt was pretty jarring: the storyline. The book reads as two novels. The first is a story about a shy girl who immediately falls for the handsome outcast, and how the two of them eventually come together. The second half covers Bianca's preparation for her transition into vampirism, and the day-to-day life of living around other vampires. I was already aware of this spoiler prior to reading the book, but I was still shocked by how uneven it was. The first half contains zero mention of the students being vampires, yet the second half describes them slipping out at night to snack on the squirrels. While I think the author was hoping this would serve as a plot twist, it results in the first half of the book dragging along, with most of the plot crammed into the second half.

This book didn't take me long to finish at all (I was able to read through it in a couple of hours with no interruptions), so I can see how it might appeal to someone looking for a quick, easy read.

When sixteen year old Bianca’s parents decides they’re moving to Evernight Academy where they are starting as teachers, Bianca is horrified. Being extremely shy, bit of a loner and living in the same place her whole life, she’s not looking forward to this.

The night before the school starts she makes an attempt to run away and runs into Lucas who is also starting at the Evernight Academy. Lucas is a loner, and not to mention good-looking, and they start to spend time together.
But then one night Bianca nearly looses control and nothing is like it seems.

Girl goes into new school where everyone are rich, snobby, beautiful and bunch of vampires and a hot guy and there’s basically everything that goes on in this book.
I’ve read worse books but this wasn’t great either. But at least it was enjoyable.

Bianca makes some idiotic choices like trying to run away with nothing but flashlight. I mean who does that? And of course fall head over heels with the first boy she meets.

And what is with vampires going into school? Especially when this is a school where nearly everyone is a vampire then why about 400 year old goes into school? I admit that I laughed when teacher tries to explain ipod to a guy from 7th century but still.

The first half was pretty slow paced but action started to pick up in the second half. I’m still in two minds what to think about this but it was quick and enjoyable read.

Well, Evernight wasn't awful but it wasn't that good either. The one thing it does have going for it is its writing style. I found it very easy to read and it flowed nicely. Other than that, I wasn't very impressed. Bianca was just another stereotypical YA protagonist and she didn't stand out to me at all. She was apparently really shy- but somehow had loads of guts when it conveniently suited the plot.

It was going okay though until Bianca bit Lucas and the story started to fall apart. It made NO sense that Bianca knew about the vampire thing all along. She didn't even think about it once for the first half of the book. She made out that she had no idea what was going on in Evernight but she actually...knew along? It really annoyed me because it was clearly just thrown in there because it was convenient. It ruined the whole story for me. Bianca was just so dense for the rest of the book. No matter what Lucas did she would have gone running back to him. All the 'twists' were pointless because it always came came back to one thing- Bianca apparently had to be with Lucas.

Overall, it was just so silly. It had potential but the plot didn't fit together very well.

I wanted to at least be able to like this book, but, alas, it was not to be. Too vulgar for my tastes. I wonder if someone could write a vampire book without all the erotic/ voyeuristic passages, or is that too much a part of the nature of the vampiric myth? Seriously, I liked the plot. The characters were at least interesting. The way it was written, I was not expecting Bianca to be the vampire, even though I had seen and noted the clues. I just was determined to believe that it was everyone else, including Lucas. So, against my wishes and expectations, it turns out Bianca is the dangerous and damned one. But the "love" story was downright disgusting after a point and, just, ick!Balthaszar was a more nuanced character that I did really like. But if he really hates his existence as a vampire so much, why doesn't he allow the Black Cross to just take him out? Don't expect much from the sequel, Stargazer, but I'll give it a shot when its released. If it continues in the same vein, though, I am not going to finish it.

What... in the world? This book has me feeling angsty. I want to love it. I want to hate it. I don't know what I want to feel about it. Claudia Gray (Amy Vincent) is an expert writer. She knows how to write a story with action, a fast moving plot, and a steamy romance. I loved Balthazar, Lucas, and Bianca. (Although I am rooting for Balthazar I think ha ha). The problem I have with Evernight is the sudden and massive turn the story takes about 100 pages into the story. This is a pretty old book, so I am not really concerned about spoilers (but if you haven't read Evernight- please stop reading now). I was completely knocked off my feet at the shocking turn the story took. Most authors at least hint at what is to come, but there was no hint- nothing. I actually got so frustrated with the book that I put it down for awhile. I felt like the entire first one hundred pages of the book was a waste of my time. I did return to the book, and I am pretty glad I did. Bianca is hard to like. I have no idea what she knows and what she doesn't know (and the amount she knows about vampires seems to change based on the chapter). Even at the end of the book, I couldn't find myself rooting for her 100%.I did enjoy the story, but I am not going to put book two on hold right away. I am still reeling from the shock of the first book, and am unsure about continuing the series.

Bianca is a shy teenager who doesn't like change and who does not talk to people she doesn't know. Her parents accept teaching jobs at Evernight boarding school and everything changes. Bianca has to try to fit in with people she doesn't understand. They all seem so strange and have traveled in the same circles for years. She feels very out of place until she finally meets Lucas. He's a young man you feels just as out of place as she does. Evernight holds dark secrets though, for both Bianca and Lucas. Will she discover them in time? This was an enjoyable story. It was a bit cliche for me though. It's another paranormal school -- not original and a bit boring now. The female protagonist of the story is self conscious but pretty and doesn't know it. The male protagonist is brooding and unsocial but incredibly handsome. Does that sound like any other book you've read recently? Probably, but you can't deny their popularity right now. I admit, I am guilty of indulging in these once in a while. Something that was pretty neat about this book is that the secrets of Evernight are hidden from the reader for a lot of the book even though it is told in first person. So, if you're in the mood for a cliche paranormal romance, then this would be a great fit. I did enjoy it. There is a moderate amount of mild profanity in this book.

For all of y’all that have read this series before...I know that there are a few people out there who don’t agree with my Goodreads rating of 3 out of 5 stars. Let me explain my reasoning for rating it so low. First of all, I really DID enjoy this book, for the record. I just really didn’t care for how it transitioned in the beginning of Bianca not fitting in...then WHAM...the story blows wide open. I also didn’t like that Lucas was totally irresistible in the beginning, then after the “WHAM” he seemed kind of sad, broken, and pathetic (the opposite of hot). Other than that, the premise was really interesting and the characters were your typical rich, snot-nosed boarding school students with a secret. It bordered on cliche, but didn’t fall right over the side. The chemistry between Bianca and Lucas is definitely palpable, and the addition of the “Non-Evernight” type kids was great (i.e. Vic & Raquel). Bianca’s parents are freaking awesome too...even though everyone has secrets at Evernight...but it was a nice touch to have them both be professors at the academy. I’ll be honest...this book didn’t blow me away, but it gave me just enough to buy & plan to read the entire series. I know other readers will enjoy this book more than I did, but I just finished reading the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. I am probably making TOO many mental comparisons between the two series when I really shouldn’t. Any feedback about the Evernight series from readers that have already read it? I would love to hear what y’all thought about it!

This book is a wonderful, easy read for teens! The best part is its not like any other vampire book I've ever read. You don't even know your reading about vampires till you get a few chapters in. It surprising and leaves you wanting to read the others! flag

I liked this book, but i did not love it . its an interesting story yes but i dont think it was done to the best it could have been . It had its moments ware I did not want to put it down and moments ware i skimmed Thur . I think that the idea of the ever night academy helping the older living vampires conform to this era that thy now live in is a very cool idea but i dont think i awes executed to the best i could have been done . i am currently reading stargazer cause i am interested to see how it will go and if the series will pick up .
