About this ebook

When your world is paranormal, be glad that you’re human… This exciting author brings a fresh sassy take on paranormal romance, loved by Becca Fitzpatrick, author of HUSH, HUSH.

Sixteen-year-old Evie has always taken comfort in the fact that she is a normal human, even though her best friend is a mermaid and her ex-boyfriend is a lunatic – and a faery. In a world where paranormals are monitored and controlled, Evie works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency because of her unique ability to see through glamours. But someone – or something – starts killing vampires, werewolves and other paranormals, and Evie must figure out what’s happening before they all disappear.

Then a shapeshifter named Lend breaks into the Agency, and Evie is irresistibly drawn to him, even though he makes her aware that the IPCA is not as noble as she once thought. With everything Evie believes suddenly called into question, the IPCA is attacked and she must choose who she can really trust.
And when Evie discovers she’s part of a faerie prophecy of death and destruction… so much for normal.

Originally posted at The Wandering Fangirl.Paranormalcy is one of those books that is just plain fun, with a cute, sassy heroine and a plot chockful of vampires, faires and weres, oh my! While it wasn't the best of the YA paranormal genre, there was enough fun and sass to keep things light.Evie, our heroine, is a tiny, pink-loving paranormal sort-of-cop, raised without parents by an international agency that polices paranormal creatures. She's a wonderful, fun protagonist, and she's the life of the entire book. I really enjoyed reading about her, and felt for her the entire time. The other characters are pretty decent as well -- Lend is kind of adorable, through Evie's eyes. I loved her best friend Lish, the mermaid (selkie? I forget) and her mother figure, Raquel, the head of IPCA, the paranormal agency that raised her.The integration of all the paranormal creatures was great, and I loved that the fae folk aren't entirely the best to work with. I love fiction that shows the fae as dangerous as they really are, and Paranormalcy totally delivered on that end. It's a great little book with a larger than life main character in Evie, and I can't wait to get my hands on Supernaturally.

Evie's been living at the International Paranormal Containment Agency (IPCA) facility since she was eight. She can see through glamours and that makes her valuable to the IPCA, an agency that captures "paranormals." She's great at her job but really bad at what she considers "normal" teenaged life--she gets all her information about that lifestyle from a tv show that she watches with her best friend, a paranormal living in the IPCA.

I like Evie, I like how she's childlike--because in many ways she's been kept that way--and I like how she tries to make her work into something pretty and sparkly like she sees on her tv show. And I really like how brave she is in stepping out into a new world.

I found the book lacking any real plot. I had a hard time staying focused on the book and couldn't really follow along. The story was all about a girl and how her life was. I wasn't too thrilled with "Evie" throughout most of the book and wish that she could have been a little more, adult, about things. She was the perfect whiny teen and got on my nerves a lot. Once the book was finished I was happy to see everything resolved and will grudgingly start the second book in the series, just to make sure I know what happens, because no matter what, I always finish a series once I start it.

Evie works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency. She takes down paranormals with her pink taser. Even though she's surround by paranormal... well everything on a daily basis she still feels like normal teenage girl. But when a dark prophecy becomes known that she will be the end of all paranormal creatures... her "normal" goes right how the window.Oh, bleep! I loved this book. Paranormalcy is a quirky and utterly original, but also has a darkness to it too. Evie is quite the lovable character, I liked her a lot. She reminded me a little bit of Buffy, except with a taser. Kiersten White has created a seductive new world filled with all sorts of paranormal creatures. A fast read but wonderful written, I look forward to reading more.

The minute I started reading Paranormalcy I was sucked in. The first chapter takes you right into action. I finished reading Paranormalcy in two days. It was definitely a page turner. Though, I did have some issues with the book, but I will get to that soon.I could not help but to get lost inside of Evie's world. Everyone person she came across and worked with was just so interesting. I also loved every scene with Lend. He was very intriguing and I just needed to know more about him. I loved the way Evie and Lend fell for each other. It was just one of those things that you just felt was right. I really enjoyed the plot of the story. There were times when I thought I figured it all out and thought I had every character nailed down, only to find out that I was way off track. The only issue I had with this book was Evie. In the beginning of the book I felt she was a very strong girl and a fighter, but as I kept on reading she just came off as a whiny & spoiled brat. Then somewhere down the line she becomes a fighter again and then back down. Her character to me just wasn't consistent. I couldn't figure her out at all and just didn't find myself connecting to her. This was my only issue with this book.I do recommend this book and give it Four stars. If there is a second part, I will definitely read it because I think Kiersten White is a great story teller. A Good Read!

What I LovedParanormalMy favorite subject and the title rocks. The book has all the greatest creatures. Vampires aren't truly sexy, fairies are the same unearthly mischievous/devious creatures, werewolves, trolls, gremlins . . . the list goes on and on. Humans are under the assumption that the creatures that go bump in the night are just myths, not true.CharactersEvelyn aka Evie: Her character flipped back and forth between love and slight annoyance. At first I completely loved her, she kinda reminded me a little bit like Rose and some of the other urban fantasy/adult kick ass characters. Evie does have many vulnerabilities and insecurities that adds flaws to the female hero persona, but these flaws are what makes me love her as well and feel for her. She has her good tough moments but she has her softer moments as well and you can see the teenager she wants so desperately to be. Lend: I do love him very much. I would love to be able to see his original form, it sounds so intriguing. I'm so glad Evie is able to see him for who he is, it just adds to the story and to their romance. What I Didn't LikeNothing. I finished this book in one day, I had no desire to put it down. I only put the book down to eat, give my eyes and body a rest from sitting, but I went back to the book as soon as I could.RecommendationA must read for all fantasy lovers, young adult and adults alike.

At first, when I picked up Paranormalcy, I thought it would be some dark and paranormal story. To my surprise, it was practically the total opposite--just a bit. It was a mix of both serious/dark and light. I thought I should mention that the cover is beautiful and it does make you think that this book is in fact the type of atmosphere the cover shows.Evie's character was not what I imagined her to be. I imagined her to be like those characters in other paranormal books, but with her own little spark. I was wrong. Evie was bubbly, energetic, and like a normal teenager. Throughout the book, it's shown that she is growing weary of her life in IPCA, and that she wants to understand what she is. It may be the same as a couple of other books, but none of those characters have Evie's eccentric attitude. She was hilarious. I loved it when she would get all giddy and excited when Lend would talk about "real life/normal life," it was just too cute.Of course, I loved Lend (Water Boy) and Evie. Big fan of the two of them together, *sigh* Compared to other books out there, Lend and Evie's relationship started out differently. It was just like any ordinary teenage relationship...besides the fact that Evie tased him and that Lend was some strange watery shape-shifter...yeah but still, ordinary. Evie reacted to her crush/relationship with Lend like any teenage girl would (well, that's what I think anyway), which was different for me but Kiersten White made it so enjoyable. But Reth, oh Reth, he annoyed the heck out of me. Despite Vivian's strange actions, I didn't come to dislike her. In fact, I thought she was a great character. I hope to read more about her in the next books.Yeah okay, let's just say, Paranormalcy, was just bleeping fantastic.

There is no book like this one I have read lately. Eve deals with all sorts of creatures and demons but finds herself drawn to a boy, who is special too. As the unfolds you want to see what happens next. When the story ends you are left craving more.

Total brain candy! I picked this up on the advice of a friend for a quick read between grad school terms and it was perfect for that. Enjoyable characters, a strong female lead who actually talks with her boyfriend instead of hiding her fears, and the plot moves along quickly. No, this book won't change your life or make you think too hard, but it will entertain you without killing brain cells. A quick, enjoyable read.

I have been looking forward to this book for a long time. The first time I saw the cover I knew I was going to like it and I was right :) The book rocked! I love Evie, she is funny and she acts like a teenage girl, which is awesome. I know that may sound strange, but I have read some books, where the character is supposed to be a teenager, but they act like anything but and that can get on my nerves. Not Evie, she is great, but I still don’t think we have figured out everything about her yet. In the beginning I thought I had her pretty well figured out, but I was wrong. I think this book is just starting to explore what she is and what she is capably of and I liked that.I did see the potential love triangle in the beginning, but as the story progressed I felt as if that faded. Maybe I just don’t like one of the characters, I don’t know. I will leave it up to you to decide how you feel about each of the guys because I do not want to sway your decision one way or the other. For me though, the one guy clearly fell to into the background and the main love interest came to the forefront and I was completely okay with that :)One thing I do not always get a chance to say about books in a series is how much I loved the ending. Why? Well, in Paranormalcy you were not left with some huge cliffhanger. Oh, there are definitely things that are left unanswered, but you are not left feeling like you were cheated of an ending. I know that happens to me sometimes, I get to the end of a book and I am so bummed because I didn’t get any answers. Not with this book, I still want to read the next books, I can’t wait, but I am happy with the way things were left. Does that make sense?Overall this book was fun, mysterious and left me wanting more. I am so happy I got a chance to read it and if you have not then you should go out and get a copy too! Seriously, go now. :)

Evie works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency. She is one of the few humans who can see through the glamour of paranormals, to what they really are. Evie's best friend, Lish, is a mermaid. Evie apprehends a shape-shifter named Lend, and is quite attracted to him. Evie also has had a dangerous relationship with a fairy named Rath, who insists on being in her life. Something is killing off the paranormals, and no one can figure out who or what is causing the deaths. Evie starts to realize she has a connection to the deaths, but what that connection is, isn't clear. This book has it all; werewolves, vampires, hags, and creatures you haven't even heard of. I predict that most students will read this book in one sitting, and teachers will hate it because students will neglect their homework in order to finish the book!

This was another teen paranormal book that I was a bit reluctant to read, since some of the popular teen series I have read lately have been kind of disappointing. I kept an eye on it though and the reviews were flattering, so I decided to give it read. I am glad I did, this was a wonderful book. I listened to it on audio and the audio book was well done, the person who reads matches Evie's personality perfectly. Paranormalcy is the first book in a planned trilogy; the second book Supernaturally is due out Fall of 2011.Evie works for IPCA (International Paranormal Containment Agency). She tags and bags paranormals to keep both the paranormals and the rest of human society safe. Evie's most unique ability is that she can see through any glamor; which makes her invaluable to the IPCA. This is why sixteen year old Evie hasn't left IPCA since she was eight, unless she is on a bag and tag job. Then a mysterious paranormal is caught going through the head of IPCA's office and he is unlike anything they have ever found before; his name is Lend and he befriends Evie during captivity. Evie then finds that paranormals are being killed at an alarming rate and IPCA needs to figure out why before whole species of paranormals are wiped out. As if crushing on Lend, finishing homework, and trying to save paranormals isn't enough...Evie has to deal with her fairy ex-boyfriend Reth who keeps trying to literally steal her heart...Evie is a wonderful character. She is tough, snarky, loves to shop, loves pink, and is lonely. She is grateful for her place in IPCA but yearns to be part of the outside world. She is a fun character that I really enjoyed reading about and listening too...she was just so real, yet tough at the same time. Of course the other awesome character was Lend, he has a depth and a sensitivity to him that you don't see in a ton of teen male leads. The way Evie and Lend banter back and forth is funny, engaging, and shows the wonderful chemistry they have together. There is a lot of action in this book and that is tempered with some interesting scenes dealing with Evie's struggles against Reth and with some tender scenes between Evie and Lend. The plot moved at a fast-clip making the book hard to put down. I really enjoyed White's writing style, she really nailed the dialogue between characters and made the book very natural sounding and easy to read.White has also built a great world here. It is a complex world with a lot of depth but the reader is introduced to it effortlessly. The book wrapped in a wonderful way, but left a few tantalizing questions unanswered. I was impressed with the completeness of the story and eager to read the next book Supernaturally to see what happens to Evie and Lend. Really this was a great book and I highly recommend it. It was refreshing, fun, and something readers of teen paranormal books should really enjoy. It was an overall feel-good and uplifting book and just lots and lots of fun.Overall a great read. For a while I was a little put-off by teen paranormal books because series like The House of Night, Wicked Lovely, and the Wolves of Mercy Falls have been okay but nothing spectacular. This book blows all of those out of the water. I also recently read Nightshade by Andrea Cremer; this was another really excellent young adult paranormal series that is something different. So pick up Paranormalcy and read it; and if you are looking for something else awesome check out Nightshade too.

The cover on this is different. To be honest it's not one I would have bought in store just by viewing the cover by itself. It just doesn't tell me much about the story in advance.Evie has had a restricted life. Found by law enforcement at a young age and having been in the foster care system, she now lives in and works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, due to her unique talent of seeing through all glamour. The first thing that jumped out at me - Evie's taser gun. No don't be fooled into thinking that Evie is a hard-ass quick butt kind of girl, she has her moments, but nothing like what I'd hoped....so the dry sense of humour and naming of 'Tasey' is well fit. I liked the idea of sensored ankle cuffs. From the outset this is a fairly no nonsense book and started off fast paced.I enjoyed Evie's friendship with Alisha, her mermaid friend. Reth, who makes frequent appearances throughout the book has chemistry with Evie, but is not all he appears, and adds twists to the storyline as it progresses. I liked thee 'travel by faerie' idea. The reason I didn't rate higher...I was disappointed with the lack of fight Evie had. She not only accepts everything in her life thus far, it takes her forever to question her background and realise that all is not as it seems. I anticipated a huge fight scene when Evie comes across a large gang of vampires, but was left feeling short changed by that outcome. At this point I struggled with wanting to read more, luckily the storyline grabbed my attention before it dwindled too much. Evie is treated like a child, but she is classified as a level 7, higher than any other species at the IPCA...so it's no wonder that things get so out of hand when the IPCA ignore Evie and disregard her advice. Evie has always felt alone, and the storyline shows you how she slowly gains confidence and gains a friend in Lend.Paranormalcy is about captivity, naivety, freedom and eventually, understanding. It is beautifully written, and I adore Lend, who is supportive and understanding. There are so many characters in this book. My favorite is Lend.

16-year-old Evie, the only known human who can see through paranormals’ glamours, works for the IPCA, capturing and tagging stray paranormals in an effort to keep track of them and keep them under control. This is normal life for her, until the day a shapeshifter boy like nothing she has ever seen breaks into headquarters and is captured. Against her boss’ wishes, Evie befriends the shapeshifter, named Lend, who forces her to question her role in the IPCA. Does she really have free will, or is she as trapped as the paranormals she captures? On top of that, however, it appears that there is something out there that is threatening the existence of all paranormals…and Evie might be in the center of it, if the fairy Reth’s extra attention towards her is any indication.PARANORMALCY is a fun, fast, and furious new read, a wonderfully fresh addition to the YA paranormal genre.Kiersten White’s debut novel contains elements that will appeal to both the girly and the tomboyish. For instance, Evie has an incredibly female-power role of policing paranormals, getting to kick butt and show off her combat skills. But at the same time, she also LOVES her fair share of girly stuff, from the color pink, to fashion, to flirting with cute boys, to naming her belongings. Evie’s snarky but assuredly feminine narration had me grinning like an idiot from cover to cover. I typically don’t even like girly-girls all that much, but Evie’s personality balanced the book’s darker, more sinister plot.PARANORMALCY is not your typical YA paranormal read: indeed, it has more in common with an elaborately written adult urban fantasy series. While the book doesn’t dive too deeply into the potentially interesting topics such as what the world outside of IPCA headquarters looks like, I appreciated how it brought up thoughtful questions about the distinction between employer vs. prisoner, true free will vs. imposed (though still broad) boundaries, and more. Kiersten White has created a marvelously complex paranormal world that I’d be excited to read more about in sequels.Bringing the feminine to the gritty urban fantasy genre or complexity to an already female-oriented paranormal genre—whatever way you like to spin it, PARANORMALCY is one heck of a great read. Evie’s story reads smoothly, a breath of fresh air. I can’t wait for more!

The first ten pages of Paranormalcy gave me proof that this book would be one funny, thrilling experience. I couldn't stop laughing along with the funny and fast paced dialog. Along with Evie's bedazzled pink weaponry and her bold and unique personality. Even though the synopsis doesn't convey the humor that is filled in this book, i knew this book would be one hell of a ride. Evie works for the IPCA, which keeps track of paranormals (you name it, vampires, zombies, faeries, mermaids, etc). Her job is to put tracking devices on them and bring them back to the council. The conversations she has with paranormals are hilarious, specifically with her faerie ex-boyfriend Reth, who at first i thought i would like, but later on turned to be obsessive and psychotic. I especially hated the way he spoke, all poetic like, making him a bigger douche than he already is. When Lend, our water boy, literally, broke into the IPCA and was captured by none other than our bedazzle girl, i was wary of his motive. I didn't know if he was good or bad, also his shape shifting to women creeped me out. When Evie started going to him where he was held up and we got to know more about him and his personality, that feeling of wariness turned into full on crushing, at least that's what went on with Evie. I love Kiersten White's writing. She captures you and holds your interest from beginning to end. I honestly did not find a boring part in the whole book. It was packed with fun, adventures, likeable characters, and enough mystery to keep you hooked. I would recommend this book to anyone who reads YA, i think this would appeal to a wide range of readers.

    Paranormalcy

Part of the Next Gen Paranormal craze where the heroine is tough, smart and fends for herself, 'Paranormalcy' by Kiersten White was recommended to me shortly after I read 'FireLight' by Sophie Jordan, both books being from the same vein, so to speak. Before I dive into the review, let me get this out of the way.

Sometimes I feel like these Next Generation of paranormal heroines have been just as bad to me as their passive, push over, abuse taking predecessors. All to often, the new generation is just as self absorbed and just as whiny only with the label of 'Bad Ass' taped across their foreheads. Characters like Calla and Jacinda from 'NightShade' and 'Firelight' respectively can easily be lumped into this category. Both considered to be independent and fierce, but when it comes down to the bareness of their character, they fall just as hard as characters like Bella and Nora from 'Twilight' and 'Hush Hush'. For me, these characters fall when they fall in love. But I digress, moving on.

As I've said, 'Paranormalcy' was next on the list after 'Firelight' and I've seen the two compared much on the same level as Twilight and Shiver were viewed, same shit different pile. If one story wasn't quite your taste, walk down the road and knock on the next door, you'll find your match there. I went into 'Paranormalcy' expecting a mediocre effort on the Kiersten's part, being her first novel and all. A lot of the authors I've read in the last two years who have popped their publishing cherry have all had the same mediocre feel. For me, 'Paranormalcy' was different, it was actually fun.

    Characters of Interest:

    Evie
Our heroine. We first meet her tazing a vampire in a cemetery and reading him his rights on behalf of IPCA and that's where I expected it to fall apart. You know what? I enjoyed her character too much. She cried, a lot, but she has so much spunk, so much character that most of her crying fits evoked empathy. She has friends who she doesn't look down upon, who aren't bitchy, who aren't push overs and she actually enjoys the company of. It's revealed that she's a level 7 paranormal, on of the higher end paranormal in her world and many readers cried 'MarySue' at this point. Because a hot, strong, girly girl with paranormal powers = 'MarySue' now a days just as much as plain, weak, tomboy with no paranormal powers = 'MarySue', but whatev's YMMV. I enjoyed the peppiness of her character and If good luck was tilted her way I wouldn't account it as her being a MarySue who demands everything go her way. The short of it, Evie didn't bother the ever living piss out of me.

    Leth
Jesus Christ, a bad boy who's actually 'Bad'. He stalks Evie, forces things on her and twists her to suit his master plan and he pulls it all off parading around with a cane. He's an ex of Evie, a faerie, good looking but his character becomes so twisted in the end it's delicious. He's a jerk, but he's doing his job.

    The Love Triangle
Leth is Evie's Ex and stays that way for the WHOLE novel. There wasn't any back and forth between Leth and Lend for Evie, she knew what and whom she wanted. While it was obvious who Evie was going to end up with in the end, she wasn't tearing the clothes off of the other two members in the love triangle.

    The End
This book wasn't perfect, I found that the last third of the book was just too 'Perfect Haze' for a book that was relatively action packed for the first two thirds. Evie going to school and living with Lend seemed like filler until Evie's confrontation with Vivian. I can excuse the plot hole's because there's a sequel on the way and I hear that a lot of (my personal) questions are going to be answered.

I expected to come out of with a new book to fill out my one - two star category, but found a book with reasonably believable characters, an intriguing story and a sequel I'm looking forward to.

At IPCA, evie is one of an unusual type of parnaormal(werewolves, vampires, shapeshifters, fareies). She has faced some difficult obstacles on her jouney to becoming the best. One of the obstacles was just a mistake with a fareie. because of this, she is in search for someone to help her. I really like how the author puts a little bit on action and romance into this novel. I am looking foward to the sequel! Bravo!

Synopsis:Weird as it is working for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, Evie’s always thought of herself as normal. Sure, her best friend is a mermaid, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she's falling for a shape-shifter, and she's the only person who can see through paranormals' glamours, but still. Normal.Only now paranormals are dying, and Evie's dreams are filled with haunting voices and mysterious prophecies. She soon realizes that there may be a link between her abilities and the sudden rash of deaths. Not only that, but she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures. So much for normal.Review:One of my favourite books this year!I loved Evie, her character is young, naive, bubbly, witty and she takes everything in her stride. The fact that she's lived most of her life (that she can remember) in the IPCA doesn't get her down. She enjoys her work bagging and tagging the worlds paranormal creatures and comes home to enjoy her soap operas and chatting with her best friend, Lish, a mermaid. But when an unknown paranormal enters IPCA and pretends to be her mentor, Raquel, everything changes for Evie. She starts to understand that while IPCA does good in the world, it's also pretty bad. And then the evil one starts killing off paranormals around the world and Evie's caught in dilemma. This book is fast paced, quick and the characters are all easy to adore - especially Lend. When he takes Evie back to his house (or rather, evil Reth does) she starts to understand what she's been missing in a Normal world and that IPCA have been keeping her under false pretenses. It's easy to understand why this book was a quick hit at the booksellers. Paranormalcy is one of those books that you just cannot put down until the end page.A wonderful start to a series!

Paranormalcy is a sarcastically witty supernaturally charged, action packed, captivating, engrossing read that keeps you on the edge of your seat from the first page to the last. It's basically kind of like a paranormal ball of mystery chalked full of secrets and revelations that spill out, build, and progress as you venture further into the novel. White did a fantastic job of creating likable character's, including paranormal creatures of all kinds and denominations so that there's a little something for everyone, developing the plot, and paying special care to the basis of the IPCA. Right away, it gets straight into the story and introduces you to its main protragonist, Evie, who is a character that I very much enjoyed. She can see through paranormal glamours. She's just your basic Veronica Mars of the Supernatural world. Evie, comes across as bright, witty, likeable, and in some ways a bit naive but that's more understandable once you get to know her. She doesn't let anything get her down, which is a breath of fresh air from some of the self-deprocating protragonists I've come across. Evie's pretty much a very badass super-hero chick in her own unique way, sporting around a super snazzy pink sparkly taser that she's affectionately dubbed as Taisy. Total spazz, but incredibly cute and fun to get to know, she just seems to be the sort of character that you could hang out with and have a lot of fun. She comes along with a mermaid best friend who speaks to her through a computer, is pretty much stalked by an cruely evil yet interesting faery named Reth who is perfectly diabloical and quite educated in the art of manipulation, and Lend (a shapeshifter she is currently crushing on) who is just as sweet as he is mysterious. He's mysterious in the way that he can pretty much shift into the appearance of anyone he sees, yet still remain invisible as he is. They don't really know all that much about him, which further adds to the mystery of him. It lends that much more intrigue to the story unfolding. I love how protective Lend is over Evie and how she befriended him totally crushing on him the whole entire time, while he was a sort of prisoner of the ICPA. It's endearing that she can see through his glamour to the real Lend and their relationship is incredibly sweet. I like that their romance didn't overpower the main plot of Paranormalcy and remained there, subtley in the background highlighted when needed. The thing that I found most interesting was the unique twist on the paranormal genre involving faeries, that White was able to pull off quite well. It was a breath of fresh air that it featured vampires and werewolves in a lesser light, while giving the stage over to the main protagonist, who spends most of her time trying to just survive in their world trying hard to prove that she's not just another one of them. There may be more to that story, than meets the eye. So, be on the look out for that. White marries the perfect balance of sinister tension with a perfectly hilarious new twist in a paranormal novel geared towards young adults. Finally, vampires are as they should be represented, rotting empty corpses casting glamours to appear as if they're attractive. I like that she stuck to the traditional mythology surrounding faeries, while still sort of building her own in a way. The paranormal world through her eyes and colorful discriptions, are what make Paranormlacy an appealing read. Fans of the paranormal romance and fantasy genre's will most definitely not be disappointed in this novel. It's totally worth the five stars that I'm giving it. If I could give it six, it would be for how pretty the cover is.

I wasn't sure I'd like this one but I was surprised. I instantly fell in love with the characters, especially Lend. I thought his power and his personality went will together. His interaction with Evie was wonderful and I really felt the connection between them. I also loved Evie and found her easier to like than other main characters in YA paranormal books. I enjoyed the secondary characters and the overall concept/plot of the story. It felt like a spin-off of Buffy in the way of hunting down paranormals and with 'comical' flare here and there but completely independant otherwise. Good book, good sequel so far!

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were lovable even the psycho faeries. I loved how the book is filled with numerous supernatural beings. I can't wait to see what else happens. I love how the main character comes to find out what she is and how she accepts it and how she is able to do what she has desired for so long. I love the fact that we have a strong female character who doesn't make stupid decisions.

So, I am going to tell you about the wonderfully creative and wicked entertaining book that is Paranormalcy. So lets start off. The story/premise. Evie is a girl living in the Center, the Headquarters of IPCA, the International Paranormal somethign Association (sorry about the something. I can't remember what the C stands for for the life of me.) Anyways, when a shapeshifter named Lend breaks in, lots of things go wrong. Soon, paranormals are turning up dead all over the world and no one knows why. And Lend is still a mysrety. Who is he? Why had he broken in? Well, I can't tell you that, sooooooooo, you are just going to have to read it. Ha Ha. (But trust me, it is amazing and you will love it.) It is all so mysterious and it draws you in becuase you NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!!!!!! Anyways, you wont want to stop reading! 5/5So, the setting of the book. This was all over the place, and without giving anything away I don't think , i will say - swamps, cities, forests, and The Center. Though a lot occurs at the center, it is always refreshing when you and Evie get a nice breath of fresh air by going out into the outside world. So, the setting was pretty unique, no high schools (well, a little, maybe a chapter) and no boarding school, so this book switches it up a bit. 5/5So, Kiersten White writes amazingly. This was her debut novel and I found the writing extremely good. Everything flowed smoothly and I just kept on reading. It is definetly the skill of a seasoned author. But then again, I say this for most debut authors cause I love everyones writing. But still, it was amazing. Can't wait to read anything else by Kiersten White. 5/5The characters in this story were all so funny and heartwarming. They always had some thing good to say whether it was "Oh Bleep!" (and no, I am not sensoring that- a character actually says Oh Bleep. Once you read it you'll understand :) and ranging to indirect quotes like "Evie, I want your soul!" or something like that. There are also 'evil' fairie boyfriend s and mermaid bffs. Whats not to love? 5/5And last, but not least, the cover. Oh the cover the cover the cover. It is so prety and helped me get my mind off of the insane lady who asked me for money in the Border's parking lot (She said that some guy made her use all her money and now she has no gas. Lets just say her story didn't sound very credible and she loked kind of, well, putting it nicely, drunk.") Anyways, the cover is amazing and perfect for the book. It is dark and mysterious, and it is perfect for that scene in which the cover is based off of. (that means- you should read the book to find out what I mean.) so, 5/5So, overall this book was amzing and gets a perfect score of 25/25.You might also like some books about other paranormal creatures, so I am going to recommend The Iron King By Julie Kagawa. This book is really good, and even though I sadly haven't finished it, i know its gonna be great. I already bought the sequel, The Iron Daughter. So, go out and get your hand s on Paranormalcy By Kiersten White RIGHT NOW! See ya!

Evie has lived at the International Paranormal Containment Agency her entire life-all 16 years. She’s always been a valuable tool in bringing in supernatural entities in order to keep humans safe. Her best friend is a mermaid, and she spends her days bagging and tagging vampires and hags, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. That is, until a mysteriously handsome water boy (for lack of a better term) finds his way into the IPCA and begins to turn her world upside down. Will this very unusual boy be the key to her finally leading a normal life?Umm…I LOVED this! As much as I try to get away from the paranormal, I just keep coming back to it. This is yet another example of a paranormal YA book with a strong female lead. Evie is purely awesome, as is her male counterpart, Lend. I love the dynamic between the two characters. Books like this inspire me to continue writing. I want people to feel about my stories the way I felt about this book. For lack of a better description: It made me smile.

Still may go all the way to 5 stars on this. Evie's voice was great. Very well done character. There were some surprisingly perceptive things under the surface. Good dialogue; no awkwardness at all, anywhere. Both scary and very much fun.

Wow 2 words: Freakin Amazing (well one out of two isn't actually a word but who cares). Ms. White can you please tell me your secret to making an amazing plot combine with great characters and lots of fun. Let me tell you I never thought a bunch of different supernatural creatures could fit into a novel until I read Paranormalcy , which by the way I totally recommend. I will admit I was very hesitant to start to this book for some odd reason. I guess everyone has been saying so much good things about it and I was afraid that I wouldn't feel the same way, but I totally regret waiting cause it's an awesome book.Evie is your typical girl, well not really. She 16, can see through paranormal glamors, lives inside the Paranormal Agency, has a best friend who is a mermaid and has a faerie trying to steal her heart. Add 2 hot looking guys, a few good plot twists and an end that will have you craving for more and you've got Paranormalcy.I loved how unique Evie was. She wasn't afraid to wear different fashions and be outgoing with people she meets. Even though she is in a tough situation she does her best to stick through it till the end which makes her a strong female lead. Evie is the type of girl who loves pink and watching her favorite teen drama show known as Easton Heights. She is the girly girl, which usually isn't my cup of teen but somehow I enjoyed her being that way. I also enjoyed seeing her out in the open, in the real world, and how excited she got about the littlest of things. An example of this is a locker (read and you'll understand). My favorite character was Reth. I was so excited whenever he appeared. He so sexy, dangerous, controlling and unaware of human interaction. I won't say much about him since that would spoil the plot, but I'm excited to see him in the next book.Lend is another male lead who swoon's Evie's heart. I love the name, lol. It's so original and different.I'm at a cross as to whether I'm Team Reth or Team Lend. I'm kind of a bit of both. The only thing that bother me in the novel was that some of the dialogue was a bit unrealistic. But other then that, it was all good.I'm super excited for Supernaturally, which is book 2 of this series. I have a lot of questions and I can't wait to find out the answers in the next book. If your looking for a good supernatural read then I definitely pick Paranormalcy.

This wasn't a particularly dark book, but it wasn't particularly light either; it was more like a shade of gray. Most writers wouldn't have been able to pull this off, but Kiersten White did, and she did it well. The plot was original, the character was relatable and lovable, and there was both action and humor. Oh, and did I mention paranormal romance WITHOUT the usual vampire/werewolf hero? All these equal a fabulous book that I read again and again.

You can't deny that Kiersten White's debut has a fantastic cover That alone will cause readers to flock, but it's Evie's charm and the unique plot that will entice them to stay... and ask for seconds. The word I most closely associate with PARANORMALCY is fun. There's mystery, there's romance, but, mostly, this book is an engaging, quick read. At just over 350 pages, PARANORMLCY is one of the thicker YA volumes I've read of late, but, for the most part, the action moved at a quick pace and the chapters whizzed by.I was impressed with the variety of fantastical and interesting characters White packed into Evie's world. She included the standard vampires, mermaids, etc, etc, but also cast a shapeshifter (without fur!) and many more, often creepy, creatures! The one aspect of PARANORMALCY that I found lacking was the romance. It was cute, but it was missing the tension I'd hoped for. I liked the boy, I liked the girl, but I wanted more fire. Hopefully my tension-filled wishes will be fulfilled in the next installment!
