About this ebook

What would you do with time that you didn’t think you would have? In the wake of an illness that rocked the lives of their family for nearly a decade, Faith and her brother John don’t speak to each other that much anymore. He no longer needs her to help take care of him, and he’s too old for their favorite book, The Velveteen Rabbit. With John staring down the sudden possibility of time, Faith tries to pick up pieces of the past in an attempt to make life whole for both of them again—but she can’t find these relics, pictures of dragons drawn by John’s hands in the early days of his childhood. Paper Dragons examines the kind of grief that is created by lost years, and the stories that break relationships apart—and puts them back together.

Author

Faith Cotter

Faith Cotter is an award-winning writer and editor whose background includes reporting for one of Pennsylvania's premiere newspapers, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette; sleuthing through boxes of legal documents while writing for The Innocence Institute of Point Park University; authoring a thesis on Harry Potter; and a job as an editor for Technology Publishing Company, where she learned more than she ever thought she would about the intricacies of applying paint to incredibly large structures. Under her author services start-up, Inkspill Editing, her latest projects include editing a trilogy of short novels and a report published by the Armenian division of the Caucasus Research Resource Center for the U.S. Agency for International Development. She considers her biggest success placing first, above entries submitted by writers at New York University and Harvard University, in a regional journalism competition. The article, titled "No Remorse: Following Up On One Of Pittsburgh's Most Brutal Murders Committed By Two Down-And-Out Juveniles" then went on to win the competition's overall national award in the category of nonfiction magazine article. She graduated with multiple academic honors from Point Park University with a Bachelor of Arts in Print Journalism and Mass Communications and a minor in English in December of 2011. Clara is the very first piece of fiction she’s published, and the narrative essay Paper Dragons followed shortly after. She worked on them for four and three years, respectively. Faith's stories explore the transient and transformative nature of memory, ideology, and emotion-with what she hopes are an endearing cast of characters tossed into the mix. Coming up this fall/winter: The Bone Daughter and Communion. Someday, she will wrestle a bear. And meet Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who is one of her favorite writers.
