I like Mitch Rapp (the main character of this book, the 5th in a series). I particularly like him when he's kicking the proverbial ass of Middle-Eastern terrorists. He does that quite well in Memorial Day. The book was exciting and -- more than most thrillers -- very timely. Some of Rapp's actions allow the reader to reflect in various ways on the recent prison abuse scandals in Iraq and ponder when abuse is acceptable and when is it not. My only complaint with Memorial Day is that it got a bit preachy, especially about the Patriot Act. Anyway, Mitch Rapp is clearly a very entertaining action hero for the 21st century.

70% of this book is good, really good, 30% of the book is "Terrorists shouldn't get rights, you have to beat them up now before the bomb goes off. You can't play by the rules because they don't." I don't want to read 100 pages of the author justifying his main characters actions. It's really sad because other than that, flynn could have out clancyed tom clancy. The book is really fast paced and you really want to see what happens next.

It's just seven days before Memorial Day, and the nation's capital is buzzing with last-minute preparations for the unveiling of the magnificent new memorial honoring the men and women who fought in World War II. Despite the hopeful energy of the city, Mitch Rapp senses trouble. A spike in CIA intelligence has pointed to a major terrorist attack on the United States. Now it's up to Rapp to pull out all the stops.Rapp immediately leaves for Afghanistan, where he leads a special forces unit on a daring commando raid across the border into a remote Pakistani village. Their target: an al Qaeda stronghold. Within a subterranean room, Rapp and his team discover a treasure trove of maps, computers, files, and bills of lading for multiple freighters heading to U.S. ports -- all pointing to plans for a catastrophic nuclear attack on Washington, DC.Information is quickly relayed back to CIA headquarters, and a nuclear emergency support team scrambles to the scene. In a few hours, the freighters have been located and disarmed and the danger has been averted. Or has it?Despite all the backslapping and congratulations, Mitch Rapp can't shake the feeling that the operation seemed just a bit too easy. Rapp follows his instincts on a quest to unearth the whole truth. What he finds is truly terrifying, and with Memorial Day closing fast, Rapp must find a way to prevent a disaster of unimaginable proportions.

This is as always a fast-paced Mitch Rapp thriller. I love these books and enjoyed the reading. Mitch is saving again the world more precisely Washington and his president. For this reason he is travelling between the Middle East and USA without getting any sleep. His manner is as rough as no one else can be. His procedures are miles away from the official politic and habit but it's the only way to reach the goal. However, the problem is solved not until the very end and therefore the story was gripping until the very last page.

Again, Mitch saves the USA from some really bad stuff--nukes and terrorists. A short, fast paced book, ones interest was not lost on wasteful details. The author spends some time bashing the liberal, equal rights under the law, viewpoint. So, the book is a bit preachy. Reference is made to Mitch's wife, but we never meet her. And, again, the line between POTUS and tactical activity is so short that multiple layers of bureaucracy are moot. That said, the book was exciting and a page turner. Where's Rapp #6 ?

Again, Mitch has to save America’s bacon and do it by wading, or in Mitch’s case shredding, the political landscapes. He will get it done even when the powers that be are 3 steps behind. Then he quietly gets a slap on the back and walks into the sunset until the next terrorist or radical wants to f**k with the good ol’ US of A.

What can one say more about Flynn and his creation Mitch Rapp. Definitely not the pleasantest of people, but boy does he get the job done for the American people. Rapp wants to be an unsung hero, but does not get his way, and his world-wide reputation goes before him so that criminals and terrorists alike quail at the sight of him. In this book a dying terrorist tries to realise his greatest wish to strike at the very heart of the Satan of the West as he views the USA. The plotline is as good as usual with Flynn, the protagonists believable, and the lengths to which they will go to achieve their ends, whilst not always palatable, show the depths of their beliefs. Flynn has left us a legacy in Rapp, and I look forward to reading the next in the series.
    4.5 stars – I was engrossed.

Rapp goes to Pakistan and take 5 hostages in a raid and in the process discovers a plot to kill the president and blow up DC with a nuke it. The wahhabi sect of islam people get thwarted and the president doesn't want to hear anything Rapp says. the AG takes custody of the terrorists who are converted american citizens and refuses to let them be interrogated so the almost retiring FBI director and Rapp take one of the prisoners to a CIA secrect facility and without physical abuse interogate the guy by tossing him into a pool the fear of drowning make the bad guy sing and low and behold There is a second nuke that was planned for DC the first nuke was meant for Newyork! He barely saves DC from destruction and helos the nuke to Mt Weather a secured bunker from the 1950's and sends the nuke all the way to the botton of elevator shaft to get out of the mountain in timefor the double doors to close and the bunker blows causing the richter scalesto goe off around the world the french think were testing nukes the germans think that we had a mishap and the usa reporters thinks that a terrorist blew up a secret government place. fortunately the bomb was contained and Mt Weather was no more. Rapp threatens to quit unless the president keeps his name out of it, and fires or makes people resign. starting with valerie jones, and asst dir AG Stealey who locked up the terrorists to try them in court instead of letting the CIA interrogate them... Rapp ends up getting to WISCONSIN to see his wife and inlaws before the end of Memorial day.
