Another amazing IAD book! Malcolm and Carrow... who weren't my favorite characters, but pulled me in (just as all of these characters do) and made me love them. I vote for dempire instead of vemon!

I didn't expect to love this next and 10th in the IAD series - but I did. If fact I think it's a favorite so far for me. Exciting battle scenes, a vulnerability in both hero and heroine, amazing chemistry - and let's not leave out the hot sex. The intense plot line definitely makes you want to continue on in this paranormal series which has only gotten better and better with each successive book. Here we come full circle with Malkolm, a demon that is turned into a vampire (demons loath vampires) against his will. Intense and strong, I loved to see his "human" side eventually shine through, particularly cute with the young witch Ruby. Plus, I loved seeing so many of the past characters (and future) coming together in one book - and what the hell is this Order all about? And La Dorada - yipes! A thrilling read and hard to put down in the second half.

I like how in this book it's the heroine who has to grovel and make amends to the hero rather than the vice versa that we've pretty much seen in the rest of the series.

The plot had drive, as Carrow was determined to get back to Ruby and keep her safe, no matter what, and Malkom’s undying love for Carrow soaring and waning. Both Carrow and Malkom learned from each other: Carrow with her limited source of power learns how to love and derive happiness from herself, and Malkom with his betrayal, trust and revenge issues learns that some things are worth fighting for.“The monster that monsters feared.” (305)A war is on its way, and these two are only a piece of the puzzle. Will Dorada be defeated? or are times changing? I guess I’ll find out in the next book! I would definitely recommend this book (and series) to those who love a little substance with their romance. Those who enjoy a good worthy plot with not just romance, but with action, rage and adventure. I really enjoyed this book. The way that Carrow and Malkom have to get over the communication barrier is great. Communication is such an important part of a relationship, especially in the beginning, it was great to see how they worked it out. I think they really learned how to read each other even better because of it.

I will be waiting impatiently for the next book.

Pretty entertaining. Liked the hero and the surrounding story was really good. Malkom was a tortured, moody without too much speaking kinda hero. Totally floated my boat and Carrow was pretty cool too. Definitely enjoyed it way more than last book. 4 and a half stars.

Re read 2013. Super cool.

As you can see by the links above, I love the Immortals After Dark series. I have read all the books and can't wait for each and every book she writes in this series. I liked the fresh new things that were in this book. Ms. Cole is definitely setting the scenes for future couples to come and even introduces some new characters types (I loved that one of the new yucky lore creatures is a sub-class of bugs) I know this from looking up Mantises on Wiki today...Anyway, there was a lot of fresh new blood in this book, it was nice and refreshing. not that Scottish werewolves (and we have a new one) will ever get old.

I honestly think this is my favorite Kresley Cole book to date. The sexy demons are getting to be more and more delicious and I hate to say it but they are starting to beat out those lovely werewolves...I know, I know. *dodges rocks and lettuce* I love that the characters in this book had substantial issues to get over, not just the usual "female fighting the attraction" thing, I mean communication is very important in a relationship and I think Ms. Cole found some excellent solutions to some of the couples' problems. I love how freaking awesome Carrow is, she is strong and kick-ass, like most of the lore women, and she is just so awesome...yes, I am aware I am gushing. I also love the sexy Malkom, he is just delicious man-meat with yummy demon horns....I am seriously developing a love for the demons.

Ms. Cole sets up this entire story so well and introduces the new characters sprinkled throughout seamlessly. The plot is fast, I was done with the book far faster than I would have wanted and there is enough action and actual plot to keep everyone happy. On that note, this book is steamy...crazy hot, no one, and I mean no one, (that I have read yet) writes with as much heat and raw yearning that Ms. Cole is able to capture in her books. I adore every single book in this series and can't wait to read more and more to come. Also....I WANT NIX'S STORY!

I have had to think about this review for a little while. The hero of this story is probably one of the most tormented and abused characters that I have read and that is saying something. Malkom Slaine has known nothing but abuse and betrayal since he was a very young child. He has survived and grown stronger and more powerful than anyone could have guessed. We get a hint into how the Venom (vampire demon cross) is made. It is a gruesome transition. We also find out that only four Venoms have been made. This story also ends with a cliff hanger. We are left wondering what has happened to a number of characters that have been mentioned in the earlier books. Plus everyone that is related to those that have disappeared is now ready to go to war with the Order, a group of mortals that are out to rid the world of immortals. I am assuming that future books will fill in the blanks. It must have been very difficult for all those readers that had to wait for a year for the next book to come out.PLEASURE OF A DARK PRINCE ended with a number of abductions of a number of immortals, this story picks up were that book ended. Carrow Graie has been abducted and put into a prison/laboratory that is run by the order. She is blackmailed, using a cousin that is seven years old, into going to another plane to bring Malkom Slaine back for the Order. Carrow and Malkom have a number of adventures in this other plane and come back to Earth. They are released from the prison by La Dorada and build a life on the island for a number of weeks until they are rescued.Carrow starts out as a smart mouth, cocky witch that is very judgmental when she meets Malkom. She assumes that he is and uncivilized male Venom that is unstable. It takes some time to for her to realize that Malkom is intelligent and sane. When she decides to be patient and finds a way to communicated with him she starts to show him how to take care of himself.Malkom has become so embittered that he is way too rough with Carrow. In a few of the instances he is trying to save her life but others he is just so angry that he has no control. Malkom has lived a plane that has little water so bathing is foreign and only done among the rich. So he is dirty and unkempt. Malkom is a quick learner, especially when he is properly motivated. Malkom also has some of the worst trust issues of any character I have read about. As the story moves along we find out why. I will say that in the beginning Malkom wasn't a very likable character but he shows over and over that he can be gentle, noble and determined.This is not an easy book to get through. The things that were done to Malkom are hard to read. Plus there are the things that are done to the prisoners. I hope that future books will provide more insight into what is going on with all the prisoners and the Order. I continue to love this series but this is a dark and foreboding story that ends with more questions than answers.

I swear that guy just can't get a break but having him fall for Carrow was not something I saw coming. Their personalities were combustible when together and that made their romance HAWT! They were great characters even though I was determined not to like Carrow. She won me over though and that is a testament to Kresley's writing. The story of what brought these two together was action packed and well played out. It will pull on your heartstrings as both Carrow and Malkom feel not-wanted, not-worthy, and overall like outcasts. Together they work through everything: lack of common language (in the beginning), feelings, wants, and desires. I am sad it took me this long to get to this series but I am glad that I am here now.Audio Thoughts: Narrated By Robert Petkoff/ Length: 12 hrs and 25 mins Robert Petkoff is perfect for this series. He has the right amount of macho for the guys and he has a nice suave for the ladies. He pretty much nails Kresley's writing style every time!Final Thoughts: On the next one!

Since this is one of my absolute favorite series, I thought I would love this book no matter what happened. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. First, I'm not a fan of books where the two characters speak different languages and therefore can't communicate with each other. That was very frustrating in this book. Second, the hero was so tortured and had absolutely nobody in his life that it was too depressing. Third, if the H&H had reconciled everything earlier in the book so that they could have spent more time getting to know each other, it would have been much more enjoyable. Major trust issues happening until the end hurt the romance. Last, a lack of dialogue made this a less emotional and enjoyable read.

I loved the hero though. He was an amazing person. There were certainly some entertaining sections. I liked Carrow and thought she made for an interesting character.

I decided to take a break from IAD for a couple of months as I was starting to get burned out on the series and had a difficult time getting into Pleasure of a Dark Prince. That said, I am happy to say that the series is back on track with Malkom and Carrow's romance.

Malkom is a sweetheart in a hulking almost savage package. It is easy to become distracted by his Neanderthal-like characterization, but there is more to him than meets the eye. The history of abuse and betrayal that he suffers is reminiscent of Kenyon's Zarek and Ward's Zsadist, but he is slowly revealed to be an loyal, noble and passionate hero.

Carrow takes a back seat in previous books and very little is known about her at the outset of Demon from the Dark. Nevertheless, she is a wonderful sarcastic and snarky heroine with an inner vulnerability that drives much of her behavior prior to the book and a core of strength that motivates her actions once the story is set in motion.

Malkom and Carrow are sizzling together and the obstacles they must overcome in order to be together make for both exciting and heart-breaking reading. This review would not be complete without mentioning Ruby, the precocious little witch that Carrow inherits - she is so adorable and brings out the best in both of the main characters.

The concept of an order of mortals bent on capturing and exterminating members of the Lore is original and compelling. The execution is also believable, which is quite an achievement given that the supernatural beings are supposed to be all-powerful.

Overall, the new direction that the series is heading in is very intriguing and I look forward to Regin's book - it will be interesting to see how Declan redeems himself.

Carrow agrees, feeling like Ruby is now her responsibility, after all they share same blood as well.Malkom has had a life of constant shame, trial and killing, he’s escaped to the mountains to the only water source of the people in town some miles away, feared by even the sickest creatures and demons he guards his only source of independence. One day a portal opens and a woman appears before him, she’s taken hostage by Hell plane demons and as he eradicates the demons his body responds to the woman, his vampires side sees his Bride the woman who bloods him making him able to breathe again, feel blood course through his body again, and well, have sex again. His Demon side recognizes his Mate, and demands she be claimed. But the woman fights him and eventually escapes him , but she’s in his land now and he’ll find her and have her.Seducing Malkom was on the list but seeing the seven foot, muscle laden dirty man with grease hair, she wants to take it all back and take her chances elsewhere, but the forest is more dangerous that she could have imagined and she ends up needing him more than she could have guessed. Negotiating a temporary peace when one only speaks Demonic and one English, it takes trial and error and a lot of hand signals to figure out an arrangement. Now Carrow has 6 days to trick the smitten Vemon through the portal or she and Ruby are dead.I’m reading through these books like a fiend, but I simply cannot help it! The world Kresley Cole has created is amazing, delicious, charged with such temptation it’s the definition of a hot read. And she never forgets to add trouble, difficulties that would have a weaker creatures on their despairs.I love it that Carrow thinks she can take care of herself but has to depend on her Vemon as her powers are dependent of feeding of happiness, and Malkom’s happiness is only related to her, so she has to keep him happy as well.And I loved Malkom, he’s a brute, sure but he’s also passionate, tortured and broken and her betrayal is something he might never be able to forgive, still he wants her, feels for her and is determent to keep her whatever it takes. There is definitely a very dark side of him that even Carrow faces. But it makes him so much more the good guy when due.I loved this book! I loved the sinister forest, the hellish creatures, Carrow and Malkom’s passion and self-enforced chastity, I loved the idea of the order bringing them together only to break them both and their hearts, I loved Malkom’s rage and gentleness with Carrow and I loved Carrow’s resilience and resolve.In one sentence, another Cole must read!

This is actually book eight in a series called Immortals After Dark, but they are written so you could read them out of order if you wanted to and it would not be a problem. If you do read them in order though, you will pick up on the little jokes here and there that reference back to other stories, which make it fun :)So how did I find this series? Well, last week I was looking for a book to read and my friend Monica over at The Bibliophillic Book Blog suggested this series to me. Monica and I have very similar taste in books and she has never steered me wrong before so I got the first book and started reading. After that I was sucked into a book reading oblivion for the next week and a half. I could not stop reading this series, it is sooooo gooooood! It has every single paranormal being possible all wrapped up into one series, which just makes it that much sweeter!Quick background on the series in case you have not read it before like me. In each book your getting a glimpse into the lives of the Lore aka all the beings that fall in to the paranormal category. Each book focuses on two people making their way through until they find each other and their lives get a whole lot more interesting. While this is all going on there is also an Ascension on the rise, an epic battle that comes every 500 years between all the factions of the Lore. So the time line is always moving towards the Ascension, but you get different viewpoints of life through the eyes of the characters that are in the book you are reading. Which is really cool because you get to see what is going on through the eyes of all members of the Lore and really get a full picture of what life as an immortal is like.Okay, onto this book, I was not sure I would love this one as much as previous books in this series, because we had never seen the demon, Malkom, before so I knew nothing about him and Carrow had always been in the background and we did not know a lot about her either. I was so wrong, I loved it! Malkom pretty much had the worst life ever up until now and he quickly won me over. How could you not want to help someone like that, someone who has never had anyone truly love him his whole life. He has no reason to trust anyone but he is tempted to let Carrow in.One of the things I found really intriguing was the instant barrier put between Carrow and Malkom: language. For almost half the book, they don’t speak the same language, at all. Yet they still find a way to communicate with one another through charades and hand gestures. It was hilarious to watch Carrow try and figure out ways to say everything she wanted to him because he did not have a clue half the time. The guy has been isolated on the parallel dimension for a really long time. He does not know and English and has never had to be gentle with anyone, so watching him try to communicate was very amusing.If you have not read this series you also need to know that it falls into the paranormal adult romance category, umm, yeah, very adult. It is crazy steamy there at some points, so blushers beware! I think Kresely just gets better at writing the steam as the series continues. You never quite know what to expect and everything unfolds differently in each book so you are never bored and always eager to read more.I don’t really know how to sum up this series. It is crazy good and every book gets better and better! Where have you been all my life Kresley Cole? This book rocked. I usually find PNR ok, not as good as UF. It's all the romance and not enough action, well here, I loved it. Immortals are being kidnapped and kept in a prison, some experimented on, and tortured. Carrow Graie, a witch, gets an ultimatum, capture Malkom, bring him there and regain her freedom. Malkom lives in Oblivion, where vampires have destroyed their demon kingdom. He hates them, and he can't live with demons either since he is an abomination.This one, what a savage brute Malkom was, and I just melted, even when he rather annoyingly begged for a good time. It was impossible not care for his tortured soul, but then I am a sucker for heroes like that. The wounded, broken ones that do not believe anyone could ever love them. And here someone falls for him, because deep in he is such a good soul, and just wants to protect here.My heat even stopped at one time, I knew the truth, but since he did not, it was hard to read. He is not a man to betray.Carrow, I guess she was ok, I honestly didn't pay much attention to her, lol, just kidding. She was the right woman for him. And it sure takes a real brave woman to handle him too.This book had a great history with all the different beings walking around in our world and in other dimensions. It had action and drama, considering that wicked men wants to capture and erase immortals from the face of the earth. It has them fleeing from other demons and strange creatures, and it has the love, passion, some things that made me giggle. I can't believe I found this book first now, at book 10. Also it was easy to just jump in with out knowing anything.Final thoughts: I even think this book was the best paranormal romance I have ever read.

I love this series. Demon from the Dark is great: the hero is tough, grunty and damaged, and the heroine is sassy and a bad girl with a heart of gold. Classic, trashy, and very, very entertaining.

Great Book, highly recommened if you liked the other books in this series, the latest won't disappoint you. I finished this book in about a day and a half, I couldn't put it down. Malkom is my favoriate of all the males in this series. His story is really heart breaking and Kresley Cole does an amazing job of telling it. Now if only she would write a book on Nix.
