About this ebook
Margaret Peterson Haddix
Margaret Peterson Haddix grew up on a farm in Ohio. As a kid, she knew two girls who had the exact same first, middle, and last names and shared the same birthday—only one year apart—and she always thought that was bizarre. As an adult, Haddix worked as a newspaper reporter and copy editor in Indiana before her first book, Running Out of Time, was published. She has since written more than forty books for kids and teens, including the Greystone Secrets series, the Shadow Children series, the Missing series, the Children of Exile series, and lots of stand-alones. Haddix and her husband, Doug, now live in Columbus, Ohio, where they raised their two kids. You can learn more about her at haddixbooks.com.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A quick and exciting read, but I'm predicting that this will be the last one that any of my students will read in the series if they were not avid readers to begin with. The multiple levels of duplicity, the amount of brain effort needed to sort out subplots and motives, and the unanswered questions make this a much more difficult text than the first 3. As an adult, it also loses points for me because there were some highly implausible plot elements that reminded me that it was supposed to be YA fiction and to just roll with it. Haddix does continue to promote integrity and unyielding selflessness, which was nauseating but probably good for young readers.
The ending left me feeling satisfied to drop the series, which surprises me since there are 3 books left, and I think that's testament to how this one ranks with the other three. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5One of the weaker of the books, I think. It was a bit muddled for my taste. Think of it as nothing more than a transition between the first half of the series and the second.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A very interesting read that will keep you glued. This book is very exciting and has unexpected twists and turns. I was not able to put this book down.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Quick read. Is book 4 in a series I heard about from a friend of my hubby.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Lee Grants real name is Luke. But when the real Lees brother comes to Hendrics School, they has to pretend to be brothers. When a fire breaks out, the Grants want their sons home. Luke isnt a Grant, so he is in for a ride.I loved this book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Smits had nothing left of his brother. He was gone. And Luke had taken his name. How could anyone hear Smits sobbing and think he was merely a foolish, homesick kid? Luke knew what grief was like....What if Oscar suddenly understood, too?Smits's grief was dangerous. Smits's grief could kill Luke.As a third child in a society that allows only two children per family, Luke Garner was in hiding for the first twelve years of his life. Then he was given the freedom of an identity card that had belonged to Lee Grant, a Baron (a member of the highest class of society), and was sent to boarding school as Lee. But now, just when things are finally starting to go right, Lee's little brother, Smits, arrives at school, and Luke finds himself caught in a web of lies that gets more complex with every passing day — and possibly even lethal. Can Luke trust the grief-stricken Smits to keep Luke's secret? And can he trust Smits's menacing bodyguard, Oscar?
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5In a future world of false identities, government lies and death threats, Luke feels drawn to the younger brother of the boy whose name Luke has taken.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is about Luke who finds Lee's brother coming to Hendricks. When Luke meets Smits, later on there is a fire at the school. Smits' parents call in and they want him home ASAP, and they want Luke with them. Later on when they're at the house, they have a party and the president. If you want to know what happens at the party, READ THE BOOK.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5very interesting and nerve wreking never knew what was coming up or what would happen, if it was good or bad or what.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is about a third illegal child, named Luke Garner. All his life he has been living in hidding but when he meet this courages little girl, he started to understand what being free meant!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Who do you trust? Is it all a lie? More Shadow Children goodness from Ms Haddix.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Luke is suddenly forced to take on his identity of Lee Grant for real- he has to go to the Grants and avoid being forced into hiding, being killed, or having his new found younger brother killed. He manages to escape with the help of his friends, and to give his new younger brother a home with his own family.
