Top Reviewer Book Shark: "Addresses how the religious right interferes with insurance coverage for even the most common birth control. This is a succinct, needed and accessible book on the far-reaching tactics of organized religion. Well-written, well-argued and on topic. A great topic that is rarely discussed in this succinct a fashion...so men don't have any excuses [not] to read this as well. This is an issue that affects us whether directly or indirectly."

A. F. Alexander

A.F. Alexander was one of those far right conservative Christians. A.F. Alexander was born and raised in Colorado. She witnessed first hand the relocation of Focus on the Family, and its impact on the city. She graduated from a church sponsored Bible Institute, worked as a part time church secretary in her spare time, was a Sunday School teacher for approximately eight years, and wrote for a monthly church publication. She left the movement, after a few decades of ardent involvement, over the position that women should stay with abusive husbands. She holds a BSBA degree, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Sacred Theology. She has worked in Fortune 500 companies her entire adult life. This was the book that had to be written and would not be quieted.

    Introduction

In 2012, the Catholic Church strategically chose to make an issue about insurance coverage for the most common hormonal birth control, for any of their female employees. This controversy is still raging as lawsuits have been filed, and politicians pontificate.

The issue of an organized religion attempting to impose their views on a third party -- insurance companies -- is far-reaching. The government requires certain types of insurance coverage, as we see in mandatory car insurance with minimum coverage. But for an employer, albeit one of the world’s largest churches, to tell a third party what they can or cannot not offer in coverage is an old world manifestation that was seen in the Dark Ages with church control over every facet of life.

Remember all the objections to the Affordable Care Act and how the scare-tactic was used that government would be between you and your doctor? Imagine an employer between you, your doctor, and your insurance coverage, dictating what a third party insurance company can even offer a woman.

I briefly addressed the birth control coverage outrage in the book Religious Right: The Greatest Threat to Democracy (see further information about the book at the end of this booklet.) But there was far more that needed covering, so I wrote a series of articles, in addition to the book. I believe they are more
