About the Author: Born in 1947, just after world war II, in a suburb just outside of Saint Louis Missouri Called Saint Ann, Dan became the third child of the Fenton clan. His siblings looked nothing like him and probably for good reason. It was an era just the emerged from the great depression, when jobs were becoming more plentiful. None the less his family was struggling to get by. A sixth grade education didn't lend itself to making a good living and driving a cable car for the city just didn't pay his father that much. It wasn't long before running from the law took the family to the west, were Dan was to grow up. Graduating from Rio Grande High School in 1967, Dan attended classes at Technical Vocational Institute, University of New Mexico, Santa Anna College and The University of Phoenix. He would never obtain his degree, yet After extensive training in the computer industry by Wang laboratories, Redactron Corporation, Digital Equipment Corporation and Compaq Computer Corporation, Dan ended up retiring from a Field Engineering position at Hewlett Packard while servicing computer systems in England and Germany. He began writing his book in 1985 only to put it aside after a brief beginning. In August 1989, his best friend encouraged Dan to finish writing his book, and the very next day his best friend was murdered. It wasn't until 2005 that Dan decided to revive his manuscript in an attempt to honor his friends request and to find closure to his death. A twisted tale of love, romance and murder emerges that will not only shock, but cause the reader to sob and laugh at times.

Summer had finally arrived and the kids were out of school. Their Grandmother had already been taken up to the mountain cabin a few weeks prior and the kids could hardly wait to be up on that mountain with her. Last summer entailed some wonderful adventures and amazing discoveries; this summer promised to be even better. Now that they were a year older and a little wiser, they would be able to take full advantage of the secrets the mountain held in store for them. They knew that this mountain was no ordinary mountain because they had experienced firsthand the magic and mysteries that were there. They had friends that lived in the forest up amongst the pine and oak trees and they were anxious to get back up there to check on their well-being.

Adults would say that the kids had great imaginations but the kids knew better. They knew what they had seen last summer and no one could convince them otherwise.

When the kids’ parents finally had the old army truck loaded up with enough food and supplies to last them and their Grandmother several weeks, they were off. They drove for a couple of hours on old Route 66 and then turned off onto a dirt road. Once they got close to the bottom of the mountain, the boys were allowed to ride outside on the running boards of the truck.

The 1942 Dodge Power Wagon was rambling up the rocky mountain road as the two young boys clung to the door posts. As the truck came to a creek-crossing, it slowed from its normal speed of three to six miles per hour to about one mile per hour. Both boys jumped off the running boards, ran past the truck, jumped over the creek and ran up the road as fast as their little legs would carry them. The road curved about twenty yards past the creek and the boys disappeared around the bend. When they knew they were no longer within sight of their father, who was driving the truck, they dove into the woods and slid down a bank. There they hid behind a tree that had rotted and fallen. They were so close to the creek they could hear it burbling just past their feet. A light breeze could be heard whispering through the tops of the pine trees that spread their branches out over the boys, helping to hide them from the on-coming 'enemy truck'. They were pretending that they were commandos and the truck carried enemy soldiers.

As they listened for the sound of the truck in anticipation of their attack, they heard the distant scream of a mountain lion. Shortly thereafter, came the purr of the truck's engine as it rambled past and the boys knew they had successfully evaded the enemy. They wasted no time as they sprang to their feet and scrambled back up to the road. They sprinted after the slow moving truck in an effort to jump onto the rear bumper.

This old army truck served in World War II and had been damaged in a rollover accident. The fenders on one side of the truck were bent upward and the fenders on the opposite side were bent down. This gave the truck a spooky appearance and so the kids' Mother dubbed the vehicle with the name 'The Monster'.

As they finally caught up to The Monster, they leapt onto the rear bumper and grabbed for the handles of the back doors. Success! They were certain they had eluded the enemy and were undetected. Now all they had to do was overcome the enemy occupants inside the truck and free the hostage, their sister Nancy. Nancy, an ‘older woman’ of eleven and a half years of age, must be rescued before her captives got her to the enemy camp for execution.

It wouldn’t be easy to overcome the driver of this truck because the driver’s assistant, the kids’ Mother, was riding shotgun and keeping a sharp eye out for these two commandos. However, since they were sure they had managed to fool the driver into believing that they were somewhere out in the distant forefront, they could now work their way forward to the running boards on the
