Thunder Falcon

Thunder Falcon is a Native American fantasy and science fiction author who takes the occasional quill-detour into other genres like suspense, supernatural mystery, gothic and general fiction. Sometimes known by the playful moniker Thunderquill, her writing has often been inspired by her theatrical background. Having appeared in plays by Shakespeare, Rostand and David Mamet, she’s particularly interested in exploring classical language and how it can manifest in the written word culturally, dramatically and even in a more abstract or spiritual sense. Long taken with the vividly imaginative possibilities of science fiction and fantasy, especially in exploring Native American spirituality and culture, she hopes to bring new readers to these compelling genres.

    Chapter One ~ Supernova

The stars rushed over the Celestial Creature in spectacular fashion. The dainty specter of lightened energy bobbed about, delighted at their arrival. It was such a pleasure to move about in this way. The precocious entity felt so exotic and brave when so far away from its place of origin, gliding through the cosmos as her own traveling supernova. But the wayward explorer could not allow itself to lose sight of its tether. It needed the dancing trace, like a churning path of phosphorescent algae on the wide expanse of a star-laced sea.

Perhaps it was the soundless voice of mystery ebbing from the glittering bodies of a stellar sky that carefully instructed the playful entity of how to carefully map its passage across the endless void, but instinctively it knew this. However, it would not prevent the wispy little alien from exploring the length and breadth of its powers, streamlining her highly efficient mode of travel like a long distance voyager.

Through experience, the Celestial Creature realized that it could use other vessels traveling throughout the system like lily pads to help make grand leaps across long stretches of space. Having based itself on one such host craft, it took to the galactic realms after some creative navigation around the vessel’s annoying velocity fields. The entity was then free to explore the cosmos, secure in the knowledge that there was a safe temporary base to return to when she tired of the stars. But truthfully, she could never tire of the stars.

Bouncing easily from one craft to another, the ships seemed much closer to one another than they actually were. And with each new vessel she encountered, she marveled at the clumsy awkwardness of the beings within. Why hadn’t they learned how to travel about in this way?

    Were they stupid?

Surely most of them must be, to be so wasteful. Yet certainly they could explore so much more of the galaxy through natural born light flight than what could be seen mucking about space in cumbersome tin cans. But thinking on the conundrum a few moments longer, she recalled who, or rather what she was dealing with. People Things.

Clumsy, dense and fleshy People Things.

She was also reminded of how their clunky tin cans mucking about space aided in her own flight, so the Celestial Creature granted them the benefit of doubt, if only this one occasion.

Then there was her secret ship.

No, her secret little vessel was quite a bit different, she mused to herself. It would be some time before she would see it again. But it was small and sleek, and not at all like these other mammoth dinghies floating about the stars.

Catching one such dinghy in her vision, she glided around its size in a surfing spiral of secret light, wisping one place to the next riding across its surface like a rush of bright water. Allowing herself to become entranced by the faraway specter of colorful cosmic art, she was taken by the striking shape of a rouge planet and the several tiny moons held within its grasp.

She didn’t know this place. Where was she?

With a shock, the entity was suddenly met by the scolding radiance of a starry gaze, that disrupted the tranquility of the awe-inspiring image.

Go back to the ship, it uttered wordlessly.

Which one? The entity pondered. She had already seen so many on her journey.

But the little alien was just playing coy. She knew exactly which one, but she wasn’t quite ready to end her journey just yet. The strangely robust, yet silent request of unknown origin again reminded the voyager that it was time to return to a place of safety.

The Celestial Creature was slow to obey, bouncing across the hull of her latest conquest, a large craft that looked very commanding in both shape and size.

It’s so tankin’yan. They always look so tankin’yan, it cooed to itself.

And it was true. The monstrosity was quite large.

Bobbing about the vessel the entity suddenly recognized the distinct contours buzzing against her sphere. Yes, it was one of those ships, in fact the crown jewel of Fleet Core, the space venturing agency of the fleshy people-things. All the more intriguing, it was waltzing in orbit around an allusive space station of mention among her kind. Could she have stumbled across Agora Twelve, the secretive faraway home to often sequestered interstellar research and discovery among the fleshy people-things?

Could she really be that far out? Woi’tonpe!

Flushed with hushed light, the extraterrestrial bobbed back to inspect her prize. Studying the strangely alien symbols etched across its surface, she recognized the name nonetheless.

    The I N F I N I T Y.

Yes, the Starship Oihanke Wanil, the words of her kind, buzzed mischievously in her thoughts. Then she popped. Alright, the translation wasn’t entirely accurate when compared to the more common language of the fleshy people-things, but it was close enough. And what a prize! Staring at the trophy, the entity pondered the secrets therein. Yes, there could be a great deal of information that would be quite useful to her kind. But would they approve of the clandestine exploration? She knew many of them would, yet others would not.

Should she pry open her celestial treasure?

The prospect seemed so risky and yet...

The booming sound of silence returned to shake the Celestial Creature from prying plots and again the same warning was sounded. The stars reeled as a wave of forces pulled at the center of her being. Yes, it was indeed time to return. Feeling the slipping of light and color, the entity was again racing across the cosmos, bouncing across guiding vessels and satellites, returning her to the grounding point that sustained her manifestation.

Yes, it was that other vessel.

The very tedious and dull one that the fleshy people-things called The Crystal Blue. It was a bloated and cumbersome craft compared to the stunning Starship Infinity, but she would have to make do with its meandering travels through space to get her home. In any case, the entity had never expected to return to its exceedingly dull and plodding path so quickly.

Catching its shape at the center of her vision, the entity hummed at the sight of its expansive surface, a happily vibrating ball of fleeting light invisible to the human eye. Plotting her return course for landing, she slipped into a silky slide across the flattest side of the craft.
