Rock 'n Roll took him to the top. He never thought it'd be the death of him...

After breaking up with his girlfriend, rock star Ace Haven drives his beloved Shelby Mustang across the country to meet up with his band and continue their tour.

Stopping off in a small town, Ace soon discovers that being a rock star isn't always a good thing. In fact, sometimes, it's downright bad.

With his ego inflating and his car disabled, Ace overlooks the rules of the town. Too late, he realizes that sometimes justice is macabre.

Kimberly A. Bettes

Kimberly A. Bettes was born on Thanksgiving Day, 1977, completely ruining any chance her mother had at enjoying a delightful dinner. At the age of 12, Kimberly began writing poems, essays, and short stories. At 14, she began her first novel, a project that would take two years and many sleepless nights to complete. Since then, she has written more than ten novels, dozens of short stories, and hundreds of poems and essays. She currently lurks in the Ozark Mountains of southeast Missouri with her husband and son. It's there she terrorizes the residents of a small town with her twisted tales, most of which focus on the dark side of human nature. In addition to writing, Kimberly is also a freelance photographer and life-long chocolate enthusiast.

    Chapter 1

Rock and roll had taken me to the top. I never thought it would be the death of me.

I paid for my gas and walked out of the station, not bothering to strut. There was no one around to see it. I pulled my sunglasses out of the waistband of my torn jeans and put them on, making the bright desert sun a more tolerable shade.

As I pulled away from the gas station and onto the highway, I floored the car and cranked up the stereo, blasting rock and roll as loud as it would go. With the windows down and the stereo up, I drove away, leaving long black lines on the pavement behind me. The wind blowing through my shaggy hair and the power of the engine beneath me made me smile.

I loved my car as much as I loved playing rock and roll. It was a black 1967 Ford Shelby GT500 Fastback. Two doors, four speeds, and eight cylinders. With 410 horses under the hood, it hauled ass. This car was my baby. It had cost me a pretty penny, but I’d have paid anything to have it.

The only things I’d done to it after I bought it were tint the windows and add my personalized license plates which read ACEHAVN. It wasn’t like people didn’t know who I was. But I wanted my name on my plates. I liked my name. Not just because it had graced covers of magazines, but because it was mine. Just like this car.

When I felt the vibration in my pocket, I turned down the stereo and pulled my cell phone from my pants. Seeing who was calling, I considered not answering. I didn’t want to. Hell, I didn’t need to. Everything was done as far as I was concerned. I had no reason to answer this call.

    But I did.

    Ace?

I closed my eyes tightly for a second. I never wanted to hear her voice again, especially saying my name. I took a deep breath.

What is it, Amber? I asked without disguising my impatience with her. I’d
