    Chapter 1

    FAMILY DINNER

It's was sunny, summer day in a typical middle-class neighborhood. The neighbor's dog followed his daily routine smelling every tree along the way. Squirrels carefully checked the ground for missed acorns. Kids down the block ran after each other playing out their usual game. Around the corner dogs barked endlessly at something in the tree. The highlight of the day was the usual arrival of the ice cream truck. Across the street Franklin meticulously cut his grass, as if his mower was a barber's scissors. The background sound of leaf blowers went on and on. The neighborhood was complacent in their safe little world. Janie could be found on her swing going back and forth effortlessly. Her pigtails danced in the wind. She was deeply immersed in the thrill of playing with her swings. Her white, picket fence that encased her backyard protected her world. Janie was a happy 10-year-old girl swinging higher and higher. She captivated the essence of innocence. The dark clouds overhead did not disturb Janie's day. The backyard bug zapper stood out with a vibrant glow, and the landscape lights flickered. Janie and her swing set where visible from the bay window, as dark, gray clouds blocked the sun. One's perception of the neighborhood was like a surreal playground.

Janie's mom was thoroughly content being a housewife. She was busy in the kitchen preparing dinner. She cut the carrots, tended to the salad spinner, and checked the large pot of boiling water. The family Labrador took his afternoon nape on the living room floor. The husband was enjoying the day. He pulled up a stool to the center island in the kitchen to accompany his wife preparing dinner, as he flipped the pages of his Popular Science magazine, then paused for a moment. Hey honey...hmmm, what are you cooking? It smells delicious? The wife happily informed her husband. Your favorite...can't you tell? The wife set a bottle of white wine and two glasses on the center island and gently poured the spirits filling the glasses. The husband indulged a taste and continued to absorb his magazine. He was concerned about their daughter. Where's Janie?

Looking out the bay window the wife replied, she's in the backyard playing on the swings. The wife pulled out a small tray of stuffed mushrooms from the oven and placed it on the center island burners. She poked a small mushroom with her fork and served it into her husband's mouth. The husband remarked, wow, out of this world. Why aren't you wearing your Kiss the Chef hat so I'll have an excuse? That's really tasty. I can't wait for the main course so we can enjoy a nice family dinner. The wife leaned toward the husband for a kiss.

The husband checked on his son in the playroom. The television screen was host to the son's latest video game where he deeply focused on his favorite character. As the husband walked back into the kitchen, the lights flickered. He looked up at the ceiling light-fan and it flashed on and off, then the fan blades ceased to rotate. He quickly turned to look outside through the bay window and observed Janie swinging about. Just then the entire sky grabbed his attention. A sudden, bright illumination zapped the neighborhood. The husband was shocked but didn't believe what he saw. The loud, annoying grinding motor of the food processor suddenly stopped. The husband and wife embraced, as their faces signaled fear and uncertainty. Their son a happy 12-year-old confronted his parents in a whiny tone oblivious to anything outside the playroom. Mom n' dad the TV shut off and I can't play my video game anymore...I was winning too.

A glass paper weight, a napkin holder, and several glasses fell over and slowly staggered off the countertop. The objects fell and hit the floor almost in slow motion and the paper weight and glasses shattered in tiny pieces. The wife's ponytail looked odd. It stood straight up, as if being pulled from above. The fork and knife began to slowly rotate horizontally. The salt and pepper shakers, wine glasses, and wine bottle easily rolled off the center island with a crash to the floor. The wine's impact with the floor projected into a spray configuration with a loud, ear piercing pissst-sound, then instantaneously converted to scorching steam. The husband and wife were directly affected by the intense burning steam, as they cried out their pain. All the refrigerator magnets simultaneously detached and landed on the floor among the array of broken glass. The pencils, napkins, fork, and knife began to float midair in a dance-like performance. The tree tops swayed violently back and forth. Overhead a blanket of dark clouds filled the sky and a tumultuous whirlwind began to take shape causing a circular opening to appear in the center.

The wife stood in front of the center island sink ready to pour cold water onto the burns on her arm to ease the excruciating pain. She turned on the faucet only to discover an intense burst of the water that ejected a loud, ear piercing pissst-sound in a spray configuration of scalding steam. She let out a loud shriek and got away from the sink, as fast as possible.

A steak knife, fork, and spatula gradually rotated horizontally in a gradual ascent just above the floor. The large pot of water was empty. The high speed wind caused trees branches to thrash about wildly. The kitchen lights flickered wildly and a flash of immense light completely filled the kitchen. In ultimate fear and desperation the husband and wife clung on to each other. The seconds hand on the wall clock stood frozen. The wife looked out the bay window and observed the swing set had an empty swing that danced back and forth. She frantically yelled out in anguish realizing Janie had vanished. Where's my Janie?! Janie! The cloud's opening closed. Trees and bushes were still. The neighborhood was silent.

Far, far out in space a spy satellite disengaged its laser beam on an American suburban household, as the test has concluded. The laser's disengagement created a sensational, bursting, spherical-shaped flash that traveled almost forever in space. The effects of the laser burning out caused a tremendous, geomagnetic interference with earth's atmosphere much like a jet breaking the sound barrier.

The family dinner was a glimpse of a gravity weapon being tested on suburbia, USA. It's a surreal snapshot of a family's happiness, a foreshadow of what could happen. Their innocence reveals their oblivion that takes you on a journey exposed to the evil minds that plot destruction lurking outside your front door. A typical family occurrence can turn into one less family member.

    Chapter 2

    A WOMAN'S HERO - A FOE'S NIGHTMARE

Prior to landing the airliner circled low around the city of Nanning, south China. The window seat exposed an amazing view of the commuting bicycles, mopeds, scooters, motorbikes, taxis, trucks, buses, and people all in a great hurry to get somewhere with the same great intensity of midtown Manhattan in the afternoon. The Nanning intersection lacked traffic lights to control the massive flow of controlled chaos. Among the daily rush was a particular taxicab that maneuvered through the busy, noisy, crowded street. This was a normal day for the young Chinese taxi driver.

The name is Court, Harrison Court-006 a black-ops agent employed by the NRO-national reconnaissance office, a nonexistent sector of the CIA. He was on his way to visit his soon to be wife Missong. Court knows no boundaries, only enemies and has a license to kill. He's a man of many disguises. He's every woman's hero and every foe's nightmare. He's known to eliminate his assigned target-espionage is his game. He's charismatic, cunning, sophisticated, tenacious, daring, debonair, and a ladies man with a boldness who can think on his feet. He's the best the CIA has. At just under six feet he has short, dark hair and prefers a Rolex watch. His urgent presence in Hong Kong was just ordered by his superiors. His new mission.

His stay with Missong was brief. He rushed back to his waiting taxi reluctant to head back through Nanning's chaotic traffic rush. The taxicab driver made an asserted effort to delivery Court to his destination. In the back seat Court was somewhat apprehensive about the transportation methods, particularly a bustling intersection without a traffic light, yet he was confident and commanding in a form-fitting tuxedo. He sat in the middle of the seat clenching both door handles anticipating a collision with a bus or truck at any moment. The inevitability of a collision involving multiple bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, and people seemed seconds away. The larger vehicles, usually a truck or bus, had the right of way in whatever direction they headed, even if it was inconsistent with the traffic flow. It was a most unusual taxi ride in which Court was captive to-just another day in south China.

Court's taxi sped by The Great Hall of the National People's Congress located at the western edge of Tiananmen Square, Beijing on his way to meet his counterpart who was employed by the MSS, China's central intelligence agency. As he passed the square, he recalled the Tank Man incident in which an army tank was obstructed by a single man and images of China's military might displaying their army tanks in perfect multi-formation showing off their ballistic missiles, as a constant reminder of their ruling authority.

    Chapter 3

    B-2 CLASSIFIED

Jaded from the long taxi ride Court finally arrived at the luxurious Panda Hotel in Hong Kong. He got out of the taxicab and was enlightened by the enormous, signature outline of a playful Panda on the exterior of the hotel. The taxi's arrival prompted a hotel attendant to escort him to the lobby. Court made his way through the busy lobby of patrons into the kitchen, and confidently walked among the many Mandarin speaking waiters collecting their orders. He dodged a custard filled spoon held by a dessert chef among others pouring
