Circle of Time

A secret society known as the Circle, whose watchword was "sacrifice, service, and suffering," had agreed that, its diverse membership would join forces against apartheid. The rebel band, unlike the others, had a different kind of leader: An old man with a vision of the future. Jan Linden, a proud Afrikaner, and South African police detective with a family history dating back to the year 1620, became interested by the method an individual was killed which prompted him to investigate two unsolved murder cases. He discovered a link to the deaths and stumbled onto clues that led him to suspect a conspiracy. Jan became enraged when his father died during a barracks explosion. The Circle organization claimed responsibility. Jan's steadfast belief that his country was in danger created a fixation to expose the Circle. His blind passion caused him to lose the only woman he loved. He gradually lost the respect of his peers, supervisor and over time became an alcoholic. He discovered that eight powerful tribal chieftains in South Africa bonded together by a conspiracy of silence. The leader was an old noble man with considerable influence, lean, athletic, and reputed to be remarkably youthful in appearance. The old man also held the key to a conspiracy plot that centers on a riddle. Orchestrated by the Circle, South Africa experienced financial gold crisis sending the country into a financial depression. The eighth member, whose identity was unknown now had the key to the riddle. It was he that danced around the wag'-n-bietjie tree.
