About this ebook
The Stop Smoking Book to help coach you to a life of not smoking. An easy to follow, coaching manual, to enable you to stop smoking painlessly, effortlessly and permanently.
Stopping smoking, with the help of the right information, can be a lot easier than ever thought possible.
This book is based on the extremely successful The Best Way to Stop Smoking Clinic which was started in 2002 in Johannesburg, South Africa by the author Ettiene van der Merwe.
The Best Way to Stop Smoking book coaches you back to being normal. There is no need for patches, drugs, acupuncture, herbal remedies or hypnosis to stop smoking. What you need to stop smoking is information, the right information at the right time.
“It was a revelation how easy it is to become a non-smoker. I am delighted to be a non-smoker; it is a wonderful feeling to be normal again. I love being able to smell, to taste properly, not to have that irritating little morning cough, my clothes not smelling anymore, no smell of cigarettes on my fingers and on my breath, having loads of energy, feeling full of the joys of life, and finding the "magic" you talked about! So much benefit and I haven't lost anything at all. Everyone else in my life is also benefiting - my kids, hubby, friends, etc. I also have more quality time to spend with these people.”
“It's only when you stop smoking that you realize what a "hold" it has on smokers worldwide. I didn't have to change anything in my lifestyle to become a non-smoker - I have continued with my normal routine, except that I am now a less stressed, more rational, happier person with more time to spare. “
“I was also surprised to learn that I have in fact lost weight after stopping smoking. Everyone wants to know how I did it - when I tell them I stopped smoking there is always an audible gasp!”
“I extend my sincere thanks to you for enlightening me and giving me the tools to become the non-smoker that I am and will be till I die! I am free at last!”
-Fiona Weir, a mom, wife and business woman who stopped smoking using The Best Way.

Foreword:
Coaching you to a normal life.
I always believed that stopping smoking was going to be very painful and as a matter of fact it was all the times I unsuccessfully tried.
I really battled with trying to stop smoking and hated myself for even attempting to quit.
The fear of attempting to stop again, after so many failed attempts, used to leave me in a cold sweat. I always knew the damage I was doing to myself and I understood all the medical risks associated with smoking but somehow I always had valid reasons to ignore these facts.
I tried everything available to me, hypnosis, drugs, drips, drops, patches, diets, earrings, chewing gums, you name it and I had tried it.
When I finally did stop it was painless, easy and actually a lot of fun.
When I stopped nobody believed me and the more I smiled and laughed the more everyone couldn’t believe me.
I had found the right information at the right time.
When some of my smoking friends stopped just because of me telling them how I had stopped I realised that I was onto something.
I started The Best Way to Stop Smoking Clinic in 2002 and have since helped countless people to successfully stop smoking.
I have been their coach and helped them to achieve their goal of stopping smoking.
So many people have asked me to put my clinic into book format so that they can send it to people who cannot attend the clinic and get a piece of ‘The Magic’.
So this book is a natural progression from a very successful clinic that seems to be getting better and better everyday at helping people to stop smoking happily and permanently.
Please keep an open mind while reading this book and enjoy it as much as you can, it may just be the start of something really fantastic.
I have to apologise for my lack of literary ability but maybe had I not smoked so much at school I might have done a better job of writing this book. Please do not let that put you off though its message is still valid.
Initially in the first few chapters it does go a bit slow but if you can stick that out and follow my instructions then you will succeed in stopping forever.
All the very best.

Chapter 1: Why do we love smoking?
"I hate smoking and would love to stop! The only problem is I love it and would hate to stop."
-Ettiene van der Merwe
I, unashamedly, admit to having loved smoking and having had hundreds of reasons to keep smoking.
Most smokers seem to love smoking for some inexcusable reason and have endless reasons for not wanting to stop.
We often hear many statements about smoking; some of the following might apply to you while some will not, but you have probably heard most of them more than once.
Common statements heard about smoking.
It is hard to stop smoking - Everybody seems to know how hard it is, even non-smokers. I have tried everything and it just gets harder, people say.
People enjoy smoking – Absolutely love it and would hate to stop.
Smoking is social – What would a night out be, without having a smoke. A Braai (barbeque), a few drinks and a couple of smokes, come on, it does not get any better than that!
Makes me happy – It is my crutch, it keeps me happy. I just seem to be able to switch off when I smoke. I don’t know why but I am happier when I am smoking. One thing is for sure when I try to stop I am far from happy.
I love the ritual of smoking – Flicking open my Zippo lighter and lighting a cigarette after a meal or a smoke with a coffee or a Coke, absolute bliss. Get into the car and punch that cigarette lighter. I always flip the first cigarette around in the pack. I get home and the first thing I do is get a glass of wine and a cigarette and all the cares of the world are gone. I love the rituals around smoking.
Smoking relieves my boredom – What would I do with my time and my hands if I stopped? When I am delayed for ten minutes what better way to kill the time than to light up a smoke? Nothing to do, then let's smoke.
Smoking helps with stress – It is my stress buster, I could not face the world without cigarettes. Every time I try to stop smoking, I am so stressed, I could kill someone. The only way I deal with stress is with a cigarette. Smoking helps me with my stress big time!
Helps me relax – Nothing relaxes me more than having a smoke. I work hard and after a crazy week I just want to switch off and relax. Please do not take that away from me. I need the ability to relax.
It’s my only vice – I don’t do other bad things, it could be so much worse, it’s only smoking.
All our friends do it – If I were to stop; I would lose all my smoking friends. Everybody at the club smokes. I do not want to change my social group.
Helps my concentration - I cannot seem to concentrate whenever I try to stop or cut down. When I really need to concentrate I smoke like a chimney.
Smokers choose to smoke – Love me or leave me, I choose to smoke, accept me as I am.
Smokers are weak willed – I just do not seem to have the willpower to be able to stop.
Life’s too short to care – A bus could hit me tomorrow and I would be dead, why go through the trauma of stopping? I could be diagnosed with an incurable disease tomorrow, why bother.
Casual smoker – I only smoke at special occasions or on weekends.
Smoking is fashionable – All the beautiful people smoke.
Tastes good – I love the taste, especially after a nice meal and maybe a few drinks.
It is not a good time to quit right now – I am having a party next week or I am going on holiday soon. It’s my birthday next month or there’s that big bash coming up.
Some people have addictive personalities – It is not such a bad addiction and it is my only one. At least I am not gambling or snorting the rent money. It could be so much worse.
Smoking is a habit – It’s hard to break habits especially tough ones like smoking. The world’s greatest habit, how can I break it that easily?
You have to have withdrawal symptoms when you quit – Cold Turkey is hell, it is like having the bends! I do not want to go through the chaos and trauma of withdrawal again.
It is an acquired taste – Like a good whiskey or cigar you have to get used to it.
Nicotine gums, Sprays, Drugs, Patches etc. work – I will need some external help when I try to stop. I heard that they take away all the cravings.
Smoking can be controlled – I’m cutting down to only a few per day or maybe I’ll only smoke at night. Maybe even just smoke the lightest cigarettes available.
Smoking helps reduce weight or if
