Curtains billowed in the summer wind. The pause lengthened. Gunzaulus's bonds wore at his wrists and ankles.

"Anyway," the Prince said, "to make a long story short, my parents finally came up with a compromise. I swore a solemn oath before all the gods that until I turned twenty years old, I must never touch another man. After twenty, I would be free to do as I wished. But not till then."

"Oh," said Gunzaulus. "Er..."

"You needn't ask. It's ten months away --- ten eternal months," the Prince muttered darkly, turning away from the General. "And since I can't risk bringing the fury of the gods down on the Empire, I can't break the oath I've sworn. Much as I would love it. But then, royalty can never follow the wishes of its heart, can it?"

Gunzaulus's own heart felt heavy too. Seeing this beautiful young man, hearing a confession of lust, and then being tied up so he couldn't possess him --

"And so here we are. I'm not allowed to touch any man's body --- and yet the fact remains that I happen to adore men... as you can probably tell.
