About this ebook

Lady Pembrook went to great lengths, traveling thousands of miles and assuming a false identity, to satisfy her fantasy of a one night stand with a real Texas cowboy. But can she fulfill her dream of a naughty sexual encounter after discovering a mysterious stranger in dark sunglasses threatens to expose her scandalous behavior in America?

Though riding bulls and taming wild horses aren’t the only risks Burton King has taken in a lifetime of working on a ranch, nothing scarred him deeper than falling for the wrong woman. When he finds a damsel in distress, will the oath he swore to never get involved with another woman keep him from finding the lady of his dreams?

Author

Brenna Zinn

Brenna hails from the Lone Star state where she lives with her husband and four dogs, three of which are as big as long horns. She’s a fun-loving writer who likes nothing better than to explore while she travels (no planned excursions, please!), eat what others cook (it works out better for everyone that way), and avoid the gym whenever possible. Her journey through life has taken her all over the United States, as well as many places throughout the world. Using her travel experience as a guide and peppering in interesting characters she’s met along the way, she loves nothing better than weaving tales of romance and leaving readers yearning for adventures of their own.

    Chapter One

Oh no! This cannot be happening.

Lady Emilia Pembrook smiled brightly at the uniformed man behind the Menger Hotel’s front desk. Years of practice at disguising her true feelings helped mask the absolute horror currently gripping her heart. But in truth, if she didn’t smile her resolve would fracture, as would her composure, something the redheaded clerk did not need to see.

At the risk of sounding redundant, let me confirm what I think you are telling me. She stepped closer to the solid marble counter and squared her shoulders. There are no rooms available at this hotel?

The young man returned her smile and bobbed his head, causing his tight curls to stretch and contract like small wire springs. Yes, ma’am. All the rooms are reserved.

He sounds too bloody happy. Do all Americans living in the South sound so jolly when they deliver bad news?

Emilia riffled through the various currencies in her handbag, pulled out a hundred pound note, and slid it across the cool countertop. Surely only she noticed the slight quiver of her hand. Right?

You are absolutely certain there isn’t a single room available? Even a very small one? She willed him to tell her there had been a mistake. Of course, there was a room available. There had to be. Her plans just couldn’t unravel so easily or so quickly. She’d gone through so much just to be in San Antonio.

Is that English money? the clerk asked, his voice booming throughout the long, elegant lobby. He picked up the bill and held it high. That’s really cool. My friends were right, you can see the line of silver in it.

Alarmed, she glanced behind to see who might have overheard his loud comments. Couldn’t she even keep a simple bribe discreet?

The grand foyer and adjacent hallway were empty aside from a man in a dark suit and sunglasses talking on a mobile near the hotel piano, and another man in a western hat sitting on one of the lobby’s
