About this ebook
"Watching from above..." touches on everyone's fear of being expendable. This worry is made manifest by the protagonist who has struggled with feeling insignificant in society's eyes. But something calls him to Good Hart beach; he doesn't know what or why; but he really doesn't need to.
Before he can grasp what's happening, he is completely immersed in Lake Michigan - panting, bleeding and weeping. Then, he discovers his purpose for being there. Before him floats the lifeless body of a gored young boy - bound to the lake floor!
And as the teacher struggles to set the corpse free from its confines below, the clamor of the killers splashing toward them is undeniable.
But how can you save the dead? Is it worth risking your own wellbeing for justice?
Does the conflicted teacher think so...?
Chad Broughman
After a typical Midwestern upbringing, I attended Michigan State University on academic scholarship to study finance. After college, I worked in the banking industry for several years in Georgia which led me to pursue my underlying dreams of educating youth as well as writing of the human experience in order to inspire, console and haunt the masses. Then, I went back to school to earn my teaching credentials at Olivet College. Upon completion, I accepted a Language Arts position at Harbor Springs High School which sits on a stately bluff overlooking Little Traverse Bay and have spent the last decade-plus teaching, coaching and penning poetry and fictional tales. I am happily married and a father to my son, Gray. As a family, we enjoy traveling every chance that arises. Our experiences as well as the grandeur of northern Michigan landscapes provide a broad, colorful canvas from which to dream and share stories. Crafting poetry and short fiction is not just a past time but rather a medium for venting, exploring and rousing.

Watching from above... - Chad Broughman
Prologue
To a turbulent world of corruption and doubt, I bequeath to you my story. It’s a brief story, but for those who Believe, it may transform, relieve or evoke you. Or fuse all the above – if you let it.
Also, undoubtedly the source of the account as well as its publication and distribution, will be questioned – as it remains unknown. Always will. But just some food for thought; perhaps there are still true prophets amongst you… willing to listen, willing to risk, willing to aspire for the sake of others whom they don’t even know…
Let’s call it an immaculate conception for now.
And for those who are alone, incensed or wayward, I have a message for you. Well, it’s actually more of a summoning for restoration, a repentance if you will. Remember when you looked up at the sky as a child with absolute wonder… lied on your back in the tender, verdant grass and sniggered as the swollen, milky clouds transformed into magical shapes? Well, there was no explanation, but you embraced it all and knew it would always be there… You felt no angst for not knowing why it was what it was. No hostility towards the meadow or the clouds or the sky. Right?
Where have your
