Oil dominates. Petroleum is involved in global trade. Oil is responsible for leadership, but the responsibility to produce petroleum wisely results in revolutions, war and that which defines history. Yet with all the importance placed on petroleum, teachers don't instruct students on the role of oil in school. Parents assume children will learn about oil by driving a car, pouring oil in the engine and pumping gas. This is irresponsible. There has never been a greater time for schools to teach the importance of petroleum.

Petroleum was discovered in Colorado before Colorado became the 38th state in 1976. By the 1860s flakes of gold mined out of the mountains turned to black gold oil mined out of the earth’s thin crust underground. Aspen’s majestic views turned the hillsides into ski resorts after real estate developers recycled to beauty of the silver mines dug into the edge of cliffs. Aspen is the most expensive place to buy residential property in the national market of real estate at a time when housing foreclosures are at an all time high. Petroleum drilling outside of Denver began in Canon City. Oil fields along the Colorado Rocky Mountains have been the result of geological fractures. The Pierre Shale has scientists on edge as engineers learn the importance of the geologic formation producing energy rich fuel. Geological depressions known as basins can be found in Colorado along the Rocky Mountain basins associated with Uinta, Raton, San Juan, Paradox, North Park, Piceance, Green River, Bighorn, Powder River, and the Denver Basin named after the capital. Oil by the billions is being drilled out of fields north of Denver in Watterberg. Colorado’s economy will reap more than four billion U.S. dollars a year in Weld County, heart of the basin filled with petroleum. The stock market exploded with joy at the happiness directed towards the Rocky Mountain corporations controlling the petroleum. Entire countries are depressed in Europe; Greece, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, and Germany all due to borrowing in Germany. The euro weak. The dollar struggling. Now news of riches floods the markets from Colorado. The mass migration from unemployed areas around the United States has take hold of the American psychology centered around get rich quick jobs offering insurance benefits, medical and dental plans, as well as terrific educations for children growing up close to the world’s best colleges including the United States Air Force Academy.

Works with other engineers and chemists inside the company, and outside experts in industry and academia to develop innovative advanced material technologies for the petroleum industry

The position is expected to plan and execute long-range R&D projects supporting the Company’s development and use of advanced structural materials in fixed equipment and process applications enterprise-wide, including Downstream Refining and Upstream crude oil production facilities

Establishes clear project objectives, plans, milestones, and other performance metrics

Accountable to complete R&D project commitments on time and within budget

Manages contracts with technology providers in addition to company’s interest in select multi-company Joint Industry Projects (JIPs)

Develops and implements Intellectual Property strategies for Advanced Materials R&D Projects.

Provides Materials Engineering consulting to other Senior Materials Engineers, operating companies, affiliates and capital projects world-wide

Supports senior engineers with work for national and international industry committees in Materials Engineering, with the expectation to become the Company representative on select committees. Examples include Society of Petroleum Engineers task groups, International Standards Organization materials task groups, National Association of Corrosion Engineers task groups, and the Materials Technology Institute.

Critically reviews company’s practices with respect to industry trends, recommends and implements changes to corporate specifications, guidelines and practices

Consults on failure analysis of critical process equipment as appropriate
