- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5From mysterious warriors to evil sorceresses, from full moon cravings to with spells, these tales of love and legend, of magic and mystery, are as luring as the moon itself.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This story begins with 17-year-old high school graduate Simone hiking solo through Europe which had been a dream of hers even before her parents died and she was taken in by relatives who never made her part of the family. She's attacked on an isolated trail in Italy and wakes up a werewolf. The story moves eleven years into the future. Simone has been trying to discover a cure for lycanthropy since she was attacked. She has also built a business selling lotions and potions that she makes with all natural ingredients. she lives way out of town and doesn't make friends. It is a hard thing to do when you turn into a wolf three days a month. Her only companion is her well-trained dog. When her dog is injured, she takes him to the vet who isn't the older man she has worked with before but his young, handsome nephew Gabe Kirby. The two are instantly attracted, but Simone has some big secrets that she's never shared with anyone. She is also really busy researching and trying to develop a cure that will make her human again.Gabe is very persistent, and he's a veterinarian who may be able to help Simone if she can ever bring herself to share her secret with him. I liked the romance between the two of them. Each of the main characters were well-rounded and engaging people. I also liked the happy ending. This story was first published in an anthology called Moon Shadows in 2015.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book actually has 4 stories in it, I have decided to review each one (briefly).Wolf Moon by Nora Roberts While backpacking her way through Italy, Simone had a life altering event. She started trying to find a solution, while living in a small town in Maine, with her loyal and well trained dog, Amico. After meeting the new town veterinarian, Gabe Kirby, she now has more than one reason to complete her search. *****(5stars) Really wonderful story, makes you hope for that kind of true love. Refreshing point of view, fun, funny and very fast paced. Almost too fast paced, I would have loved this one to be longer.Moon Witch by Jill Gregory Gwynna of Callemore, novice moon with, knew the only hope for her sister Queen Lise was to go to the Valley of the Org and destroy the evil sorceress Ondrea. In her quest, she asked for information from Duke Keir of Blackthorne, the only person ever know to have returned from the Valley of Org. ****(4stars) This is a very intense story with a lot going on at one time, the magic of the moon witch, the despair of the valley, and the uncertainty of how or what to do to accomplish the goals. I wish this story could have had more details added, the character interaction is wonderful and empowering.Blood on the Moon by Ruth Ryan Langan With all of the Highlanders in fear of the approaching Laird Reginald Rothwicks warriors, Alana Lamont was not sure what to do with her band of orphaned women and children. Maybe with the Dark Angel in their forest they had a chance. Could just one man make the difference in their survival and their lives, against such a ruthless force.*****(5stars) Ruth Ryan Langan never fails to create a collection of characters that touch the heart and take you to a time of mystery and strength. This was a heart wrenching and heart warming story that could have been drawn out to a full book on its own. West of the Moon by Marianne Willman Phoebe Sutton knew she had a place at Thorne Court. Finally arriving, Phoebe discovered that Lord Thornwood had recently passed and his nephew, Gordon Tremaine was the new Lord. Feelings from a time that Phoebe and Gordon had nearly been engaged tangled in with Gordon’s cursed life. The Kingdom of Faeries, had Gordon now and though he tried to keep Phoebe away and safe, she may be able to help him escape the curse of the last seven years. ****(4stars) Rich descriptions of the Faeries world. Really great characters if only the story was longer to really get to know them. Once the scene was set, it was over. A good story that could be made great, it just went by too quick. This is a great book, all of these stories are wonderful, this review is written as a result of reading it for the 3rd time.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The best story in the four is Nora Roberts' werewolf meets a vet story. They're all romances with a paranormal/magical element and quite readable. Simone fulfils a lifetime ambition by trekking in Italy but her holiday turns into a nightmare when she's bitten by a wolf. She spends her time trying to find a solution to her problem and avoiding notice. When she meets the new vet Gabe Kirby she finds herself torn because she finds herself attracted to him, but she doesn't want him to have to deal with her problem, one person is enough and that person is her. However he's persistent.Jill Gregory's story Moon Witch is a pretty typical quest story and in another anthology would have shone better. Gwynna goes to an old enemy of her people to get help to defeat their common enemy. He finds her attractive but doubts her motives.Ruth Ryan Langan's Blood on the Moon is a story of pseudo-Scotland and a laird trying to kill all around him to get as much of his neighbours lands for himself, the one remaining bastion and a man who has been living wild fighting him come together to fight him.The Last story, Marianne Willman's West of the Moon is a 18th century story of Faerie, the second best story in the collection and quite a nice story actually. I enjoyed it a lot and found the main character Phoebe to be an enjoyable character.
