Reviews for Stand Against the Wind

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I have really enjoyed McManus' work and writing over the years, and I look for his new work when it comes out. The Unstoppable Force, Seizing Your Divine Moment and Uprising were all books that I found exciting and and inspirational. The tidbits of stories and scriptural work such as the material around Jonathan and David brought me back to those books more than once. In Comparison, Stand Against The Wind seems empty. It's almost like a collection of inspirational greeting cards. The shifting fonts look pretty but actually prove difficult to read, and they don't really serve any purpose. I almost want the book to calm down so I can just read it . . . I picked up the book hoping for a conversation with Erwin, but instead I feel like I've been given a package or collection of cool things he's said. I miss the stories of Erwin's life and experience and hope the next book will once again offer more of those . . .

Lord, if it's you,
Peter replied,
tell me to come to you on the water.
Come,
he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat,
walked on the water and came toward Jesus.
But when he saw the wind, he was afraid
and, beginning to sink, cried out, Lord, save me!
MATTHEW 14:28-30NIV
The TRANSFORMATION of our character is more REVOLUTION than reformation. It is forged from battles fought far more than by beliefs held. It emerges out of crisis, not out of classroom. It doesn’t just come to you; you must run to it. It is like a gauntlet waiting to be conquered. Character is like a hero asleep within you waiting to be awakened. Its power sweeps through you in waves of transformation. In pursuing a life that is not about yourself, you find yourself living the life you’ve always longed for. And with each challenge faced, with each victory won, you suddenly come to the realization that you are a different person than the one who began the journey. Simply attempting the gauntlet has changed you forever. Peter saw the wind, was gripped by fear, and began to sink. But don’t miss the point—he stepped into the storm and walked on water!
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.
You of little faith,
he said, why did you doubt?
And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.
Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying,
Truly you are the Son of God.

It is for
FREEDOM
that Christ has
set us free.
GALATIANS 5 : 1
You were created to be FREE.
If you are a follower of Jesus Christ,
you’re also CALLED to be free.
Yet to experience this freedom,
there must first be an uprising—
a REVOLUTION of the soul.
This is how life is supposed to work—
it’s an ADVENTURE, a JOURNEY, a trek filled with uncertainty, excitement, and risk. I am convinced that in each of us there is A VOICE CRYING OUT, a confession waiting to be declared without shame,I want to live!
This journey requires many confessions and declarations, but this is a good place to begin. Let me invite you to hear the roar within your own soul.
God formed us in His image and then breathed life into us. God’s life in us is sustained by character. When we lose the character
