- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I have been reading Johanna Lindsey books for over 20 years. They are great fantasy stories and quick easy reads to just relax and enjoy. She is one of my favorite authors. I read this book when I was 14 yrs old, and wanted to revisit some of Johanna's older works. When Phillip Caxton first meets Christina Wakefield, he must have her. She rejects his proposal of marriage, so he sets out to kidnap her. Christina wants to resist and hate her captor, but her body responds to his every touch. This book contains rape scenes and violence towards women.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Terrible. The heroine has Stockholm Syndrome. The hero is a rapist and kidnapper.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5great
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5It was entertaining, which is beneficial in itself, but there were too many parts that were so awful that I was left with negative emotions about it. Without spoiling anything, I will say that the most idiotic bit involved three people; Christina, Tommy, and P.J. I know this is rather narrowed down for a general review, but just that part alone enraged me to the point that it was all ruined for me. Aside from that and the other undesirable parts it was alright. I love Johanna Lindsay, but I would advise you choose a different one of her novels.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Christina is a young noble woman in England who has just come of age. She wants nothing more than to go to London to see the city and get out of the boring country. Both of her parents have passed away and she only has her brother as family. She goes to London and is disappointed in the fops of society and the silliness around her and wants nothing more than to go back to her country estate. She has several marriage requests and turns them all down thinking nothing of it. Little does she know she has attracted the attention of Phillip who is unlike most other English men for he will stop at nothing to have the rare rose that is Christina. He arranges for her brother to get called to Egypt knowing she will accompany him. Once in Egypt he kidnaps young Christina, takes her into his desert camp and makes her his mistress. This novel was just okay - nothing fantastic, no real surprises and no new ground broken here. You have your average romance novel with many of the age old plot devices and cliches that you can find in every other one. This was Lindsey's first book and it shows.
