- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was a great book. I enjoyed how the author did not make the female into something she was not for the ton in London. The author actually used some historical erotic books in writing this. Amazing research. I received this as a free book from Harper-Collins.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Lots of fun, with romance and mystery. Enjoyable, but not a book that I would read again.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I am loving loving loving this!
Great opening and so funny! I adore the heroine who is delightful minx who is getting her own back on her stuffy hero.
Full review to be posted soon.
I LOVED it, funny, delightful historical romance with a few laugh out loud moments. Highly recommended. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I acquired this book, the third installment, from the library. Now I was a bit apprehensive about reading this since the past two books were enjoyable but didn't exactly have me hooked, in the way I like to be into a story. But I had heard great fabulous reviews about this story, so I was looking forward to it. I am delighted to say that I LOVED it! It was the type of story that completely pulls you in from the first few pages. Of late I never know if I will be into a story or not, so I was glad that this one proved to be my favorite of the series and the author so far.It begins with Miss Celia Seaton being kidnapped and robbed by a stranger, who takes everything except for a rattle (that is her most precious possession) and her shift, no clothes, or shoes. She finds herself stranded in the country and comes along another man who has been robbed himself, but who is suffering from a case of amnesia and is the one man she despises, for he ruined her in front of society, and because of him she is destitute. So she comes up with a quick plan, to tell him that they are engaged to be married, because she believes he deserves a bit of justice. So she decides to create a new "fishy" name for him, and as they endeavor to stay one step ahead of a man who is chasing them, a desire develops and they are both caught up in the heat of the moment. When Celia starts to soften toward Tarquin, he then regains his memory, and he is more than furious. They then head to his estate, where his aunt finds them in a compromising position and he claims that they will be married. So now Celia is engaged for "Real" and she doesn't know her true feelings about her future. At first she doesn't see a need for them to be married, but she realizes that she wants to share a life with Tarquin with whom she has started to love, despite fighting her feelings for him, she can't resist him.Celia I found to be a very amusing heroine, I was laughing so much. I loved how audacious she was, especially when dealing with Tarquin. Celia is very willful and independent, but loves to tease and play jokes, especially on a man who ruined her. I liked how she doesn't let anything discourage her, and she ends up being a very endearing character. I enjoyed seeing how she dealt with each new scenario. Tarquin is very education and intellectual, and a bit of a "fop", but despite his obsession with clothing, I grew to like him more and more, with each different circumstance when dealing with Celia. I enjoyed seeing how they connected, and even when he learns the truth and regains his memory, he doesn't fully take it out on Celia. I admired him more for that. I loved the intimacy that slowly develops and it is more gradual, but it was fun seeing these two interact and get over their misconceptions about each other.Overall I found the third installment to be a sensational read that takes you on a variety of adventure and sensuality that is bound to tie you in knots. I enjoy the different aspects that develop for the story, and its much more than a amnesia/revenge type story--that is only the beginning. It starts out that way of course, but turns into a quite suspenseful plot and ends up forcing the reader to be on edge at times. There was also just a smooth flow to the story, that made it easy to read and keep enjoying all the way through. The intimacy that develops between the characters are fun and sexy and I found this story to be a ball of fun and adventure!!! You definitely want to put this on your watch out for list! WELL DONE!
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This was a $.99 impulse buy on Amazon, and I think I got about $.99 worth of entertainment. Lots of classic tropes, and not in a re-imagined way, the hero and heroine dance around until some outside force (like kidnapping, or "sleep") bring them across the event horizon, and then they can't keep their hands off each other. Not unreadable, but completely unmemorable.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I bought this book because it was on sale for next to nothing on kindle and I thought I'd give it a try, even though it is the 3rd book in The Burgundy Club series, of which I haven't read yet the first two. This can easily be read as a standalone, though I surmise we do re-visit characters from the previous books. This historical wasn't bad, but some areas were a bit disjointed and hard to follow. It's a convoluted plotline, but overall funny. A sweet road trip story involving plain Celia Seaton, a nobody who is paired up with haughty London dandy, Tarquin Compton who has amnesia after being knocked on the head by someone who is trying to kidnap her. She is no fan of his, and takes full advantage of the fact he has amnesia and makes up a doozy of a story telling him she is his fiancee and he is a vicar! Despite his amnesia, he is finding this story hard to believe, yet they stick it out together, wandering around the English countryside and evading the cutthroats who are after her. You see, someone is trying to kidnap her. Their travails are compounded when they spend the night - an amorous night - together in a barn and he regains his memory at a very awkward moment! His honor compels him to propose marriage, but Celia does not want to marry under such forced circumstances, even though she is falling in love with his amnesia persona. Much happens and it all ends happily, but it did take me a long time to finish this book. Not sure if I'll read the other books in the series or not.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The Amorous Education of Celia Seaton by Miranda Neville—A year after her father’s death and her return to England, Celia Seton is surprisely kidnapped. While she is escaping she stumbles upon Tarquin Crompton, the Ton’s leading dandy, with no memory of who he is. Remembering the scorn she faced at his hands a year before, Celia sees her chance for revenge. She claims his name is Terrence Fish and that they are engaged. The make their way to an acquaintance of Celia’s with few clothes and no money. As they spend their days walking they start to care for each other. However, when Tarquin regains his memory he returns to his arrogant self, the leader of the ton beyond Celia’s touch. When Celia’s safety is threatened, Tarquin has to be honest about his feelings for Celia. This story wouldn’t appeal to those who dislike romances filled with consequences and unlikely events, but romance readers who are happy to put up with such things for a good love story will find themselves drawn into story and rooting for the characters.
