Introduction
Before the creation of underwater viewing equipment, early Caribbean travelers caught merely a glimpse of the world beneath the sea. But, once they did, the idea of subsea exploration really caught on. By the 1930s, rubber goggles with glass lenses and face masks became a standard part of many a tropical traveler's wardrobe and a new wave of adventure travel took root. And, though much has changed since those early days, the fascination of the sea and its splendid inhabitants are still romancing and captivating visitors the way they always have.
Dive vacations have since evolved into a major part of Caribbean travel. There are now resorts, travel agents, tour operators and yacht charters that cater exclusively to divers and snorkelers. Many all-inclusive resorts have added scuba lessons and tours. There is even a cruise ship with an all-dive
